Description
San Bruno Park & Recreation Commission Meeting
October 20, 2010
A

A
B
Our
report
is
brief.
Our
committee
is
composed
of
commissioners,
Zama,
Thea,
Davis
and
peers
and
Nigel,
and
what
we've
been
doing
is
we've
gone
up
to
the
park
individually
and
assessed
and
took
a
idea
of
what's
going
on
there
and
we
made
a
brief
report
which
is
in
your
packet,
and
we
have
our
observations
listed
there
talking
about
the
materials
in
the
park
and
we
complement
its
staff
on
the
installation
of
the
play
equipment.
B
B
It's
also
been
suggested
by
the
commissioners,
not
a
tle.
Our
main
focus
might
be
on
the
basketball
court
across
the
street
and
that
will
continue
to
study
that
and
make
a
recommendation
at
a
future,
meaning
one
point
foot
to
the
public
and
especially
the
neighbors
of
rolling
wood.
If
near
the
catalpa
top
lot,
we
will
be
installing
the
park
sign
there
on
Tuesday
October
26
that
130pm
and
we'd
like
to
encourage
and
invite
neighbors
that
are
interested
to
join
us
at
that
time.
Anybody
else
from
the
committee
would
like
to
add
to
that
yet.
F
D
A
D
I
can
just
add,
we
do
have
a
little
bit
of
an
update
on
information
about
the
basketball
court.
P
genie
was
out
there
doing
some
testing,
and
so
they
were,
they
were
putting
they
were.
They
were
holding
the
court
a
little
bit
to
do
some
testing
on
the
pipeline,
and
one
of
the
arrangements
we
made
with
with
pge
is
that
they
will
go
back
and
they
will
be
repaving
the
basketball
court.
So
it's
something
that
the
city
will
not
have
to
do.
D
Pgd
will,
although
obviously
they
will
have
to
wait
until
the
weather
improves
a
little
bit
so
that
work
can
be
done.
I
know,
there's
rain
coming
up
projected
for
the
next
week,
so
they
probably
won't
be
able
to
do
it
any
time
in
the
near
future,
and
they'll
have
to
wait
till
it
gets
a
little
bit
warmer,
but
PG&E
will
be
taking
over
the
paving
of
the
court.
A
D
A
F
F
A
C
So
the
dog
park
committee
met
a
couple
days
ago
actually
yesterday
and
we
discuss
first
the
existing
dog
park
and
how,
in
the
past
year,
so
we
discussed
improving
the
lighting
there
and
we
were
directed
to
kind
of
there's
no
funds
for
us
to
do
the
lighting
so
we're
trying
to
figure
out
how
to
get
the
users
of
duck
park
to
do
some
fundraising.
So
we
talked
about
that
in
possible
ways
to
communicate
that
to
them.
C
I
was
given
a
list
from
Danielle
of
all
the
users,
names
and
phone
numbers,
but
I
don't
know
if
there's
really
a
I,
don't
know
who
to
who
to
call
from
on
that
list.
So
we
thought
about
maybe
taking
the
estimates
that
we
had
for
the
lighting
deciding
which
route
is
the
best
way
to
go
and
then
posting
how
much
that
would
cost,
and
then
they
could
organize
how
to
write
raise
that
money.
C
But
you
know
we're
obviously
open
to
feedback
from
the
rest
of
the
Commission,
and
then
we
also
discussed
a
possible
our
discussions
that
we
had
about
a
possible
new
dog
park.
Obviously
the
location
we
had
identified
is
it's
not
going
to
work
at
least
for
a
while,
so
what
we
thought
about
is
maybe,
as
the
glenview
area
is,
is
redeveloped
that
if
there
is
a
if
a
new
park
is
put
in
that
area
that
maybe
we
could
incorporate
a
dog
park
at
that
same
time.
F
C
C
F
A
C
A
Okay,
I'm
certain
we'll
have
other
recommendations,
and
maybe
the
dog
park
users
can
offer
something
up.
Okay,
the
next
one
is
the
donor
recognition
committee,
and
that
was
myself
as
the
chair,
and
this
was
also
reviewed
in
our
last
report,
because
we're
still
at
a
standstill,
I,
don't
know
where,
where
we
are
at
this
point,
did
you
want
to
take
it
Randy
or
well.
D
There's
really
no
update
other
than
the
item
was
recommended
by
both
the
Parks
Recreation
Commission
and
the
culture
arts
commission
to
be
forwarded
to
the
City
Council
because
of
the
City
Council's
having
to
to
cancel
a
couple
of
their
meetings.
Their
agendas
have
been
pushed
back.
This
item
will
be
heard
by
the
council
in
November
or
December,
but
it
has
not
been
yet
been
placed
on
a
specific
agenda,
so
we
will
get
back
to
you
as
soon
as
they've
had
an
opportunity
to
to
hear
the
item
and.
A
Where
we
are
at
that
point
is
the
both
Commission's,
the
culture
and
arts
commission
and
the
park
and
rec
Commission
ad
hoc
committee
met
with
an
artist
made
a
selection
and
I
think
there
were
12
or
11
people.
Most
of
them
were
for
it,
some
were
against
it
and
we
present
it
to
City
Council
that
point.
Ok,
any
any
questions
through.
A
F
So
the
lions
field
committee
really
was
the
athletic
field
committee,
which
had
a
couple
goals
in
mind
number
one:
was
we
needed
to
determine
whether
or
not
there
was
additional
athletic
fields
needed
in
San
Bruno?
We
then
our
second
goal
was
to
determine
whether
or
not
we
needed
to
make
improvements.
F
Sixteen
fields
after
determining
that
you
know
there
are
less
teams
that
there
are
less
needs
for
practice,
fields
that
adding
an
additional
field
in
an
area
in
San
Bruno
what
there
is
no
space
with
the
challenge,
so
this
group
followed
through
the
process
and
made
a
recommendation
to
staff
which
recommended
to
council
to
make
improvements
at
line
field.
That's
been
done.
F
Some
things
aren't
as
simple
as
just
saying:
yeah:
let's:
let's
do
it-
we've
approved
get
the
funds.
Are
there,
let's
make
it
happen
and
you
sit
in
your
weight
and
you
wonder:
well,
okay,
six
months,
eight
months,
nine
months
a
year
later-
and
it's
still
not
done
so
through
the
process
of
understanding
what's
going
on.
Hopefully
we
can
better
learn
and
make
better
decisions
as
we
move
forward
on
other
projects.
F
So
an
update
on
on
the
improvements
being
made
two
lines
field
is
that
bids
were
received
by
staff
in
the
twenty
thirty
September
they're
narrowing
it
down
they've
narrowed
it
down
to
three
finalists.
They
will
be
interviewing
finalists
this
week
and
hopefully
meet
with
the
top
firm
the
following
week.
So
there's
movement
and
there's
progression
hope
to
have
more
next
one.
C
A
And
our
final
ad
hoc
committee
were
working
on
is
the
revenue
enhancement
and
before
we
discuss
that
I'm
a
teeny
bit
confused,
because
the
chair
that
is
chair
I
mean
the
Commissioner
is
a
mattia
and
I'm
a
teeny
bit
confused
at
why
we
created
this
ad
hoc
committee.
If
anybody
remembers
why
we
did
that
I.
Don't
quite
remember
because
she
discussed
it
with
me
and
I
I
knew
it
was
to
generate
more
revenue.
But
anybody
here,
enlightened,
I,
think.
B
We
want
to
tutor
yes,
they
think
we
wanted
to
see
if
our
fees
were
in
line
with
our
neighboring
communities
and
also
get
a
sense,
are
we
really
have
a
providing
fees
that
are
reasonable
for
our
citizens,
and
that
was
one
of
the
motivating
things
in
why
it
was
created.
I
know,
staff
did
a
big
report
from
north
of
us
and
south
of
us
in
comparing
to
what
our
fees
are.
We
found
that
somewhere
higher
and
many
were
lower
I.
B
A
D
D
We
have
worked
with
the
with
the
park
and
rec
Commission
and
with
the
senior
advisory
board
and
at
the
City
Council's
meeting
next
week,
October
26th.
They
will
receive
the
recommendation,
which
is
to
allow
facility
renters
to
be
able
to
use
certain
items
in
the
kitchen,
the
oven,
the
stove
steam
tables.
There
is
no
additional
cost
for
the
room,
but
the
renters
would
have
to
pay
for
an
additional
facility
attendant
and
that
attendant
would
be
the
person
who's
responsible
for
the
operation
of
those
pieces
of
kitchen
equipment.
D
There
would
also
be
a
refrigerator
freezer
that
is
here
on
site
just
for
the
renter,
so
people
groups
for
bringing
in
items
that
needed
to
remain
cold
until
later
on
in
the
the
party
that
would
be
here
also
and
that
weight
would
not
interfere
with
any
of
the
equipment.
That's
being
used
by
the
seniors.
D
One
of
the
interests
of
the
senior
advisory
board
was
to
make
sure
that
all
the
equipment
was
in
working
order
for
the
lunch
programs
they
serve
on
a
daily
basis,
so
the
thought
is
by
having
facility
attendant
who's
here,
who
is
who
knows
the
facility
who
operates
it
properly?
Who's
person
doing
it
and
the
other
condition
that
was
suggested
by
the
senior
advisory
board
and
then
approved
by
the
or
or
also
recommended
by
the
partner
mission.
D
Was
the
groups
that
abuse
the
use
of
the
kitchen
are
not
been
allowed
back,
are
not
allowed
to
rent
the
facility
in
the
future.
So
those
are
the
recommendations
that
are
going
to
be
before
the
City
Council
next
week.
As
far
as
other
revenue
items
that
make
them
up,
those
are
the
only
ones
that
have
been
discussed.
I
think
we
do,
we
can
do
a
comprehensive
look
at
the
fees
are
charged.
Usually
I
would
suggest
that
be
done
during
the
budget
process.
A
B
Was
remember
that
committee
and
we
we
had
several
meetings
and
had
a
lot
of
discussions,
I'm
not
sure
if
we're
finished
yet
I,
don't
I,
don't
know
if
staff
feels
we're
finished,
but
I
think
the
procedure
would
be
if
staff
notifies
the
chair.
That
by
definition,
ad
hoc
committee
has
one
purpose
and
once
they
finish
that
purpose
they're
dismissed
by
the
chair,
so
I
think
we're
in
limbo.
Right
now
we
don't
know.
Are
we
finished
or
not
finished.
D
That's
up
to
the
share
of
the
Commission
and
to
the
commissioners
as
a
body
to
determine,
if
there's
more
work,
that
you
would
like
to
see
done.
If
you
would
like
to
go
online
and
look
at
other
cities,
I
would
suggest
that
we
stay
to
the
peninsula
and
do
comparisons
of
hourly
rates
of
all
types
of
different
types
of
recreation
classes.
The
Commission
can
choose
to
do
that
in
the
chair
can
form
a
committee
to
do
that
type
of
research.
D
D
That
might
be
a
way
to
do
it
as
well.
To
look
at
some
of
the
fees
charged
by
other
groups.
You
know
that's
a
possibility.
We
we
do
stay
in
touch
with
the
other
groups.
We
do
have
representatives
on
on
county
committees.
There
is
a
committee
that
looks
at
special
classes
and
different
instructor
rates
and
ratios
most
of
the
city's
pay
instructors
anywhere
from
from
75
to
80
percent
of
the
fees
that
are
generated
of
the
resident
fees
that
are
brought
in
we
are
split,
is
a
little
bit
less.
We
typically
charge
about.
D
We
give
instructor
about
sixty-five
percent,
meaning
the
city
keeps
thirty-five
percent
in
this
case,
and
the
instructors
keep
the
sixty-five
percent.
So
that's
always
the
discussion
that
comes
up
in
terms
of
ratios
of
how
those
things
work,
but
if
the
commission
would
like
to
do
more
research,
that's
up
to
the
Commission,
so.
B
Before
we
leave
that
to
the
chair,
I
I'm
still
a
little
confused.
If
that
committee
continues,
are
we
going
to
give
feedback
about
the
fees
for
that
person?
That's
operating
the
kitchen
equipment,
the
only
one
I'm
familiar
with
is
belmont
and
I've
been
there
for
several
parties
and
I've
been
there
when
caterers
have
been
there
and
I
think
they
had
one
staff
member
on
duty,
but
are
you
familiar
with
other
cities
I'll
off
the
top?
If
not,
we
can
go
into
a
later
bit.
D
I
mean
if
you're
referring
to
senior
if
you're,
referring
to
facility
rentals
I,
think
our
intern
Jason
eriksson
did
a
very
good
study
of
that
presented.
The
information
on
that
in
terms
of
facility
attendance,
most
facilities
will
have
one
attendant
if
the
group
is
small
and
or
if
the
group
is
not
has
no
alcohol
during
their
function.
D
One
of
the
thoughts
that
we
had
was
by
allowing
use
of
the
kitchen
we
weren't
trying
to
generate
new
revenues
on
that
we
were
trying
to
generate
more
revenues
more
rentals,
and
so,
instead
of
increasing
the
fee,
the
idea
was
actually
maybe
even
lower
the
fee.
A
little
bit
getting
more
people
to
use
the
facility.
D
So
I
think
the
Commission's
had
several
discussions
and
please
any
other
commissioners
correct
me
if
I'm
wrong,
but
I
think
the
idea
was
to
try
and
find
a
balancing
point
of
where
the
fees
are,
and
that
was
the
Commission's
recommendation
to
the
City
Council
now
during
the
year.
If
you
know,
of
course
the
Commission
can
analyze
that
again
and
next
year,
during
the
master
fee
schedule,
discussion
can
bring
that
back
up
or
new
recommendation.
F
To
the
chair,
that's
exactly
it
is
exactly
I
remember
those
are
you
I'd
like
to
make
a
suggestion
at
this
group
ad
hoc
committee
sit
down
in
me,
I
suggest,
with
a
staff
person
to
sit
down
and
maybe
clearly
defined
what
your
goal
is
objective
and
then
a
determinate
that
at
that
point,
whether
or
not
you
want
to
continue
and
I'd
like
to
suggest
that
you
know
we're
in
dire
times
and
any
additional
information
we
can
provide
staff
on
areas.
We
can
make
some
more
money,
maybe
be
more.
You
know
it.
F
Sometimes
it's
not
about
increasing
costs,
about
increasing
numbers
of
participation,
ways
to
average
way
to
communicate
ways
to
get
the
word
out.
You
know,
Parks
and
Rec
will
always
be
the
department
that
gets
the
cutbacks.
So
you
know
areas
we
can
support
that
and
help
it.
That's
that's
part
of
our
goal.
Okay,.
D
One
more
statement,
because
I
think
Commissioner
Davis
touches
on
something
that
that's
very
important
and
we
always
encourage
the
Commission.
Almost
by
definition,
is
the
eyes
and
ears
of
the
public.
You
are
you,
you
also
you
act
as
a
liaison
between
the
community
and
staff.
You
are
out
there
at
different
events.
G
A
B
Want
to
give
a
little
history
when
staff
was
overwhelmed,
this
commission
used
to
have
standing
committees.
That's
why
I
brought
up
if
we
are
finished
with
our
work
on
the
fees
and
revenue
enhancement,
I
would
recommend
that
the
chair
dismiss
the
committee.
On
the
other
hand,
this
is
something
that
always
coming
up
and
I.
Think
staff
has
to
give
us
some
indication.
B
Do
we
need
a
standing
committee,
the
difference
between
an
ad
hoc
committee,
the
standing
committee
standing
committees
on
going
and
the
chair
points
in
each
year,
but
do
we
need
that
or
we
don't
and
I
don't
want
to
bring
it
up
tonight,
but
I
just
want
to.
I
want
the
chair
to
think
about
it
and
in
the
old
days
we
used
to
have
the
concession
was
a
standing
committee.
Baseball
was
a
standing
committee.
B
A
C
A
B
A
A
D
Only
thing
I'm
a
report
on
is
it
is
the
California
Association
of
Parks
and
Recreation
commissioners
and
board
members,
which
is
how
we
get
the
acronym
for
it.
I
believe
Commissioner
Nigel
asked
for
this
to
be
put
on
to
the
agenda.
I
do
not
know
if,
if
the
what
you
have
in
your
packet
is
the
application
process
for
the
awards
for
this
year
and
I,
don't
know
if
the
how
the
Commission
typically
does
this.
D
If
you
wish
to
nominate
anybody
or
any
programs
or
if
you
want
to
have
a
separate
committee
to
look
at
this
outside
of
the
meeting
and
then
bring
the
information
back,
the
deadline
for
nominations
is
November
first,
so
we
don't
have.
We
can't
bring
it
back
at
the
next
meeting
but
commit,
but
you
could
have
a
committee
that
you
empower
to
make
the
nominations
and
submit
the
information
for.
A
B
A
D
Be
very
happy
to
give
a
brief
report
on
that
one
and
then
introduce
our
representatives
from
huy
baseball.
But
this
this
item
is
very
similar
to
the
offer
that
was
made
last
year
by
pee-wee's,
and
there
was
a
scoreboard
put
in
at
diamond
too.
If
the
process
is
to
bring
it
before
the
Commission
for
the
Commission
to
make
a
recommendation
to
the
City
Council
and
for
the
City
Council
to
formally
accept,
alter
or
reject
any
donations
such
as
this
to
come
in.
D
A
E
C
Sent
here
anyhow,
yes,
the
peewee
league
would
like
to
donate
another
score
board
on
diamond
three.
This
time,
we're
just
going
to
have
a
scoreboard
and
later
on
we're
going
to
we're
not
going
to
have
an
ad
panel
on
top
that
we
had
like
down
at
diamond
too
so,
we'll
just
later
on,
get
an
approval
from
you,
people
again
for
just
to
put
a
plaque
on
one
of
the
links
of
it
that
was
donated
by
the
PV
league
and
that's
about
all
I
can
answer
any
questions.
It'll
beat
it
the
same
company
needed
Bernie.
F
F
C
And
the
time
during
the
fourth
of
July
tournament
and
went
down
again
but-
and
there
was
the
fellow
that
it's
on
at
the
park
and
rec
maintenance
department
was
that
was
unavailable
to
corrective
measure.
Maybe
we
could
try
to
get
them
to
give
us
something:
that's
more
user
friendly
than
the
one
that
we
have,
but
if
the
directions
are
followed
it
shouldn't
work
properly,
are.
A
Yeah
yeah
well
I'm,
on
behalf
of
the
city
and
and
staff
and
and
our
Commission.
Thank
you
so
much
I
mean
our
score.
Boards
are
very
important
to
kids.
That
was
one
of
the
score.
I
think
the
parents
want
to
know
the
score
more
than
the
kids
in
diamond
to
score
board
looks
excellent,
so
I
look
forward
to
it
at
diamond
three.
So
thank
you
on
behalf
of
the
police.
Oh.
F
I'm
Sarah
add
one
more
question.
The
other
question
I
had
was:
is
a
time
or
not
nessa
Terry,
a
countdown
timer
for
the
length
of
a
game.
I
know
that
that
was
it's
a
big
issue
at
lions
field
and
it
was
thank
you
when
they
finally
put
that
install
that,
but
our
PB
game
is
there
really
a
time
issue?
Is
there
a
question
or.
F
C
F
C
A
D
A
A
D
This
is
there's
no
action
to
this
item.
It
is
just
to
let
keep
you
informed
that
we
are
in
preliminary
discussions
with
colt
baseball
over
field
maintenance,
as
you
may
remember,
from
our
discussions
back
in
the
spring,
with
the
city's
budget
cuts
the
city
park,
staff
is,
has
less
staff
to
attend
to
some
of
the
details
of
parks
maintenance
because
of
the
safety
concerns
around
the
sports
fields,
especially
during
baseball
and
softball.
We
will
continue
to
drag
the
field
on
days
when
the
fields
are
going
to
be
used.
D
Lining
cold
baseball
has
come
forward
and
says
they
are
willing
to
do
even
a
little
bit
more
than
that
to
help
the
city
out,
and
so
we
are
having
discussions
with
them
about
repairs
to
the
mounds
and
setting
the
basis
as
long
as
there.
They
would
still
do
the
chalking,
they
will
maintain
their
own
dugouts
and
some
of
the
other
items.
So
this
is
just
to
let
the
commissioners
know
that
we
are
having
the
discussions
with
them.
D
Cold
baseball
would
be
working
with
a
couple
of
the
other
groups
that
you
that
use
lara
field,
and
we
are
specifically
talking
about
Laura
field
at
this
point,
but
they
do
not
use
the
field
until
high
school
JV
baseball
is
over
so
that
we're
not
looking
sometime
in
May
anyway.
So
this
is
just
the
very
first
notice
of
it
and
we
will
keep
you
informed
as
those
discussions
move
forward.
D
A
D
As
we
have
done
in
the
past
year,
we
are
going
to
do
a
couple
of
things
over
that
two
of
our
recreation
supervisors
are
here
this
evening
and
they're
going
to
report
on
their
programs.
Jenny
Tucker
is
going
to
report
on
her
programs
and
she's
also
going
to
highlight
specifically
the
aquatics
program.
We
are
it's
going
to
be
a
little
bit
different
this
year.
There's
not
going
to
be
the
slideshow
with
the
music.
D
We
found
out
that
if
we
do
that,
we
can't
post
it
on
our
normal
posting
places
like
YouTube,
because
we
don't
have
a
copyright
for
the
music.
So
it's
going
to
be
just
changed
a
little
bit
and
also
we,
as
we
did
last
year.
We
are
not
going
to
be
doing
the
video
of
the
summer
we're
going
to
wait
that
until
the
next
televised
meeting,
so
that
will
be.
C
D
G
Okay
good
evening,
commissioners
and
I
just
wanted
to
give
you
guys
a
real
quick
overview
of
our
summer
aquatics
program
from
last
summer,
which
seems
like
so
long
ago.
A
few
months
ago.
This
was
my
personal,
my
8th
summer,
working
here
for
San
Bruno,
and
it
was
another
successful
and
safe
summer
at
our
pool,
which
is
always
nice
rewarding
feeling
we
had
just
one
thing
personally.
For
me,
this
summer
was
that
my
staff
hours
were
cut
in
half
where
I
did
a
job
share
with
the
city
of
burlingame.
G
So,
instead
of
being
available
for
the
pool
40
hours
a
week,
I
was
only
there
20
hours
a
week
this
summer.
However,
with
the
great
staff
that
we
have
on
site
at
the
pool
and
with
the
help
from
the
rest
of
the
department,
we
had
another
successful
program
where
I
don't
think
the
staff
even
noticed
I,
wasn't
there
as
much.
We
went
through
swim
lesson
programs
successfully.
G
So
that
was
something
new
that
we
added
for
a
little
bit
extra
revenue,
our
water
aerobics
classes
continued
to
be
popular
in
the
evening
class
we'd
get
an
average
of
about
20
participants
every
night,
I'm
not
stop
by
our
summer
lifeguards
and
swim
instructors.
The
other
thing
that
we
really
highlighted
this
year
was
the
specialty
camps.
G
You
know
in
the
past
we've
started
offering
these
little
week-long
summer
camps
that
are
related
to
aquatics
and
they're,
getting
very
popular,
so
I'm
going
to
continue
to
increase
that
we
did
two
weeks
of
like
a
Junior
Lifeguard
camp,
so
they
were
for
teenagers
and
where
we
taught
him
lifeguard
skills.
They
didn't
get
certified
because
they're
not
old
enough,
but
it's
kind
of
a
feeder
program
into
our
lifeguarding
class
when
they
turned
15,
and
we
also
offer
two
weeks
of
our
swim
and
tennis
camp,
which
is
popular.
G
We
had
a
waiting
list
for
that,
so
they
play
tennis
with
the
instructor
last
like
a
lesson
in
the
mornings,
and
then
they
go
over
to
the
pool
in
the
afternoons
and
this
summer
we
also
did
a
soccer
and
swim
camp.
So
some
of
our
lifeguards
that
also
play
high
school
soccer
did
soccer
with
the
kids
in
the
morning
and
then
took
them
over
the
pool
and
did
water
stuff
in
the
afternoon,
so
I'm
looking
forward
to
doing
a
few
more
of
those
things.
G
Next
summer,
again,
we
had
our
volunteer
program
where
the
teenagers
in
the
area
help
with
our
swim
lesson
program.
So
we
had
about
20
of
those
volunteers
this
summer
that
helped
teach
swim
lessons
and
again
another
one
of
those
things
it's
a
feeder
program
for
when
they
turn
15
and
they
can
get
hired
and
trained
from
our
staff.
G
They've
already
gone
through
some
of
the
training
that
we
put
the
lifeguards
thrill
and
that's
similar
to
DS
camp
volunteer
program
as
well,
and
then
the
pools
still
currently
open
right
now,
because
we
are
renting
out
to
the
school
district
and
mills
high
school
water
polo
is
using
our
facility
so
because
they
were
using
it.
In
the
afternoon
we
were
able
to
extend
our
season
for
water,
aerobics
and
lap
swimming
in
the
early
mornings,
and
some
weekend
shifts.
So
we
actually
just
closed
to
the
public
on
October
15th
so
last
week.
G
So
we
stayed
open
about
an
extra
at
least
six
or
seven
weeks
than
we
usually
do.
So
that
was
good
to
bring
in
a
little
bit
of
extra
revenue,
and
then
the
mills
pool
will
be
using
the
pool
until
next
week
when
their
season
ends
and
then
we'll
be
shut
down.
But
we
will
be
offering
the
polar
bear
plunge
again,
this
winter
in
January,
so
information
on
that
will
come
out
in
our
winter
activity
guide.
G
G
They
have
to
put
towels
over
them
because
that
this
is
a
victim
and
it
just
gets
so
cold,
pulling
them
out
whistle
practice
teaching
the
lifeguards
how
to
blow
the
whistle
properly,
which
you
would
think
would
be
an
easy
feat.
It's
not,
and
this
is
the
staff
practicing
some
of
their
cpr
on
each
other
and
on
a
mannequin.
G
This
was
a
joint
staff
meeting
that
we
did
with
san
bruno
and
burlingame.
So
half
of
those
are
san
bruno
staff
and
half
a
Burlingame
and
some
pictures
from
our
swim
lesson.
Programs
and
again
we
offered
swim
lessons
to
1300
kids
this
summer,
so
we
had
good
numbers
for
our
swim.
Lessons
and
kids
had
a
great
time
learned
a
lot,
there's
Sierra
one
of
our
commissioners
and
some
of
the
lifeguards.
This
is
one
of
the
evenings.
G
Water
aerobics
classes,
which
was
one
of
the
warm
evenings
I,
think
there
was
like
30
participants
and
in
the
back
you
can
actually
see
our
water
pulled.
The
mills
water
polo
they
were
practicing
dry
lands
so
multi
using
of
the
pool
there
and
that's
a
picture
from
some
of
our
junior
lifeguard
camp
participants
and
we
had
them
this.
These
are
the
little
kids.
Are
the
junior
lifeguards
watching
the
pool
with
the
lifeguards?
G
So
they
got
a
kick
out
of
that,
and
that
is
our
picture
of
our
camp
and
our
pool
staff,
where
we
do
an
event.
D&Amp;I
put
together
an
event
every
summer,
where
we
kind
of
do
a
team-building
activity
for
all
the
camp
and
pull
staff.
So
that's
just
a
quick
recap
of
our
summer
and
I
think
that's
it
from
my
report.
If
you
guys
have
any
questions
on
the
products
programs
and.
D
And
I
know
we
will
go
through
the
three-year
budget
summaries
in
a
moment,
but
the
two
items
that
jenny
brought
up
or
were
very
specific
and
the
one
where
we
had
the
one-time
opportunity
with
the
city
of
burlingame
2shared
jenny
in
her
time,
generated
roughly
about
twelve
thousand
dollars
of
revenues
to
the
city
and
the
second
one
is
renting
out
the
pool
to
the
high
school
district
and
again,
these
are
both
one-time
opportunities.
But
we're
going
to
continue
to
look
for
those
wherever
possible.
D
The
high
school
district,
that
is,
they
had
several
pools
that
the
district
in
the
fall
is
still
working
on
they're
making
repairs
to
so
their
water
polo
teams.
They
need
a
place
to
practice.
Can't
give
you
a
cost
figure
of
that.
As
the
program
just
ended,
it
was
based
on
the
number
of
hours
that
they
were
using
the
facility,
so
over
the
next
week
or
two
we
will
hold
together
the
financial
information.
D
We
can
report
back
on
that
at
your
next
meeting,
how
much
extra
revenue
that
had,
but
it
also
did
give
us
the
opportunity
to
put
on
programs
in
the
fall
where
we
traditionally
don't
because
of
budget
reasons,
the
cost
of
heating
the
pool
is
very
expensive
and
the
cost
of
staff
out
there
is
very
expensive.
The
fact
that
the
district
needed
it
and
the
district
was
paying
for
the
cost
of
the
heating
of
the
pool.
All
we
had
to
do
is
cover
the
cost
of
the
expenses
and
that's
that's
a
program
expense.
D
That's
then
borne
by
the
exercise
program,
participants
or
others,
so
it
gave
us
a
little
bit
of
revenue
opportunity.
So
we
continue
to
look
at
those.
Those
are
two
that
were
directly
affected
by
the
pool
or
opportunities
we
had
because
of
the
pool
use,
and
we
will
continue
to
look
for
more
of
those
as
time
goes
by.
So
if
there's
no
questions
about
those
I
will
turn
it
over
to
do
chair
like.
F
B
C
A
C
C
E
The
entire
staff
from
last
summer
return
for
the
2010
season,
and
because
of
that,
we
were
able
to
take
our
training
to
a
higher
level
by
doing
new
and
different
things
during
the
during
the
training,
and
we
did
things
a
little
bit
differently
from
camp
scenarios
from
different
discussions
regarding
behavior
management
to
new
games
and
arts
and
crafts,
and
working
more
closely
with
their
volunteers
or
leaders
in
training.
So
one
other
thing
we
were
able
to
bring
forth
the
summer
was
a
parent
orientation
night
and
there
was
about.
E
There
were
about
two
dozen
camp
families
that
showed
up,
and
we
cover
topics
from
a
typical
day
at
camp
to
field
trip
procedures,
transportation
and
what
happens
on
swim
days.
So
having
that
I
know
brought
a
sense
of
comfort
and
we
leave
to
some
of
the
parents
who
showed
up
who
had
some
questions
and
we
were
able
to
answer
those
right
away
for
them.
E
Another
new
program
we
added
this
summer
was
taking
some
campers
to
and
from
Camp
to
the
pool
for
swim
lessons
during
the
four
to
six
o'clock
hour
during
our
p.m.
camp
program
and
we'd
had
an
average
about
an
average
of
my
campers
for
every
two
weeks
who
participate
in
that
program.
That
was
a
successful
new
little
addition
the
summer.
So
overall
we
had
a
nice
increase
in
numbers.
E
From
last
year
we
had
over
1,400
camp
signups
this
year,
which
is
131
more
from
last
year
and
a
little
bit
about
the
Li
TT
program
or
leaders
and
training
program.
We
had
50
participants
and
that
program
throughout
the
summer
and
they
participated
in
the
program
about
three
weeks
out
of
the
ten
weeks
we
offered
for
camp,
which
averaged
out
to
about
13
volunteers
a
week
and
again
before
you
are
the
2010
parent
survey
results
that
you
had
received
this
evening,
I'm
going
to
also
talk
a
little
bit
about
our
youth
activities
committee.
E
This
evening
we
have
about
25,
active
members
and
back
in
April
we
took
about
six
of
our
members
to
our
to
the
yak
attack
in
Santa
Clara,
it's
a
teen
conference
where
they
were
able
to
attend
and
be
a
part
of
variety
of
sessions
from
program
planning
to
specific
debate.
So
they
really
enjoyed
that,
and
that
was
a
nice
new
opportunity
for
teens.
E
Also
last
July,
we
collaborated
with
the
city
of
Pacifica.
Once
again,
last
winter
we
took
them
on
a
ski
and
snowboard
trip
to
homewood,
and
so
we
were
able
to
take
them
to
disney
on
the
summer.
So
we
had
about
15
teens,
hop
on
board
a
bus
and
we
went
done
anaheim.
So
that
was
a
great
new
trip
for
us
as
well.
E
Yak
has
fundraise
I'm
sure
you
guys
have
seen
them
the
summer
for
a
concerts
in
the
park
and
for
our
movies
in
the
park
as
well,
and
we
were
able
to
generate
over
seven
hundred
dollars
for
the
committee.
So
that's
been
pretty
nice
and
currently
we
are
planning
to
ski
and
snowboard
trips
for
the
winter
and
I
again,
since
it
was
a
success
last
winter.
So
that's
where
we
are
today
and
actually
that
concludes
my
summary
report
and
you
have
any
questions
if.
D
I
can
just
add
to
that
report
just
a
little
bit
because
he
touched
on
it.
We
did
the
same
thing.
The
same
very
mean
and
treacherous
administrative
function
2d
that
we
did
to
all
of
our
other
programs,
which
is
how
can
we
generate
more
revenues
and
and
how
can
we
cut
expenses,
given
the
current
financial
situation,
that
was
the
challenge
put
2d
and
through
her
talents.
Her
experience
with
camps
and
also
through
the
assistance
of
her
Jen
Molina's
was
was
a
right-hand
person
throughout
the
camp
they
restructured.
D
They
restructured
the
camp's
a
little
bit
as
she
said.
She
brought
in
130
more
participants
which
generated
a
lot
more
revenue.
We
will
have
the
summer
finance
report
coming
up
to
you
at
your
next
meeting,
but,
as
you
have
in
front
of
you
on
your
the
camp
evaluation
reports
out
of
the
ten
categories
from
registration
process
through
scheduling
in
counselors
in
enthusiasm
and
safety,
at
least
ninety-five
percent
of
the
respondents
of
the
80
people
that
responded
at
least
ninety-five
percent
in
every
single
category
said.
D
The
program
was
excellent
or
good,
and
the
vast
majority
of
the
categories
it
was.
A
hundred
percent
of
the
respondents
said
that
the
programs
were
excellent
or
good
and
over
eighty
percent,
in
almost
all
of
the
categories,
the
respondents
were
excellent.
So
looking
at
that,
not
only
did
he
meet
the
revenue
and
expense
challenges
brought
before
her,
but
also
presented
a
program
to
the
community
that
was
extremely
well
received
and
obviously
very
popular.
B
B
Found
it
amusing
that
when
I
read
this
report
and
I
looked
at
registration
and
under
the
category
of
excellent,
there
was
like
90
something
sent
and
only
one
person
thought
it
was
poor,
so
they
must
have
been
in
a
bad
mood
or
something,
but
I
would
be
bias
if
I
didn't
mention
are
already
giving
accolades
to
Jenny
about
you,
too.
I
visited
the
program
of
four
different
occasions
in
the
park.
They
didn't
know
who
I
was
I.
B
Just
went
up,
talk
to
the
kids,
I
talked
to
the
staff,
the
enthusiasm
and
the
the
joy
that
they
were.
Having
was
really
great.
Also
I,
don't
know.
If
I
colleagues
know
this,
but
are
you
still
teaching
your
college
course?
She
teaches
a
college
course
and
recreation.
She
wrote
a
book
and
she
always
tackles
me
and
I
take
that
book
to
the
company
annual
conferences
every
year
to
try
to
sell
them.
So
she
said:
she's
put
San
Bruno
on
the
map.
B
E
A
F
Through
the
chair,
yes,
flora
again
very
well
said
Dave.
Thank
you
for
that
site.
I
mean
I.
Think
it's
just
to
say
that
you've
increased
numbers.
Is
you
know
at
that
substandard
itself?
I
mean
these.
Are
these
are
hard
times,
and
you
know
a
lot
of
people
without
jobs
and
here's
a
lot
of
families
that
either
the
wife
or
the
husband
doesn't
have
a
job
in
it.
So
putting
kids
in
programs
like
this?
Is
it
expensive
they
can't
afford.
F
So
even
in
these
really
bad
economic
time
to
increase
the
program,
participation
just
says
a
lot
about
the
program
itself
and
you
know
it
constantly
keep
changing
in
to
make
it
something
that's
more
fun
and
exciting.
You
know
it
is
about
what
we
have.
We
have
this
amazing
staff
that
is
coming
up
with
great
ideas
and
making
things
fun
and
wanting
something,
a
program
that
the
kids
1
to
10
so
again
kudos
good
job.
Thank
you.
I'm.
D
F
D
F
D
D
If
it's
somebody
who's
coming
in
for
a
one
hour
class,
we
will
try
and
assist,
and
we
realize
that
there
is
enriching
benefits
of
that,
but
that's
also
a
situation
where
a
parent
or
an
adult
is
bringing
them
down
and
staying
with
them
and
bringing
them
back.
We
want
to
make
sure
that
we
have
at
least
have
opportunities
for
kids
in
the
after-school
hours
to
participate
in
the
programs
when
maybe
they're
going
home
and
there's
not
a
parents
or
another
adult
there
to
supervise
them,
and
so,
if
they
can
do
something,
that's
supervised,
enriching
healthy.
D
A
D
D
A
D
D
D
I'll
pause
for
a
second
I
believe
that
was
in
the
packet
and
as
I
notice,
a
couple
of
commissioners
just
looking
forward
to
my
cube
every
second.
What
it
shows
is
four
of
the
five
divisions
of
community
service
department,
the
library
division,
the
parks,
division,
Recreation,
Division
and
the
seniors
division.
The
5th
division
is
facilities
and,
as
that's
an
internal
service
fund,
we
did
not
include
it
in
this
report.
That
means
that
the
facilities
division
is
funded
by
by
allocations
from
each
of
the
divisions
or
departments
throughout
the
city.
D
A
D
D
D
D
D
A
D
F
D
Is
the
staff
costs
that
is
directly
all
those
programs?
It's
the
staff
costs
directly
of
the
program
participants,
none
of
the
overhead
administration.
The
administration
is
lumped
into
the
administrative
section
on
those
reports.
We
do
not
do
a
full
break
out
of
time
analysis
for
each
of
the
parks,
crew,
members.
That
is
something
that
we
are
going
to
be
starting
to
look
at
for
the
next
budget
year.
D
Recreation
staff
already
does
that,
for
example,
when
Commissioner
Bauer
works
as
a
lifeguard.
If
she
works
multiple
programs,
she
codes
her
time
so
maybe
she's
helping
with
lap
swim
or
she's
helping
with
lessons
or
those
things.
We
do
not
do
that
yet
for
the
picnic
rentals
and
for
parks
division
time,
but
will
be
something
we
get
to.
What
that
reflects
is
mostly
of
the
of
the
part-time
staff,
the
recreation
leaders
that
are
working
camp
or
after-school
programs,
the
lifeguards
that
are
brought
on,
etc,
and
the
full-time
staff
has
put
into
administration.
F
D
A
D
D
Starting
with
September
night
that
trying
to
do
this
as
close
to
chronological
as
I
can,
when
the
disaster
hit,
it
was,
after
shortly
after
work
hours,
staff
responded
very
quickly.
We
were
that,
within
an
hour
of
the
disaster,
we
were
in
the
EOC
community
department
staff
was
opening
the
EOC
and
starting
the
process
of
running
it.
I'm
sorry,
an
emergency
operating
center,
as
that
was
happening.
D
Other
department
staff
responded
back
to
the
recreation
center
and
immediately
again,
within
the
first
hour,
we
had
identified
the
recreation
center
as
the
first
emergency
shelter
that
we
would
operate
that
evening.
It
was
obvious
it
was
a
six-alarm
fire.
It
was
the
largest
fire
in
san
mateo
county
history
and,
as
we
saw
the
scope
of
it,
we
knew
that
people
would
need
to
be
housed
overnight.
D
We
got
the
phone
number
out,
and
that
was
the
number
that
was
highlighted
on
the
bottom
of
all
of
our
TV
screens
for
the
next
several
days,
and
people
were
calling
our
6167
180
number
usually
used
to
sign
up
for
classes
or
rent
the
picnic
facilities.
Now
it
took
a
very
different
turn
and
it
was
it
was
to
find
loved
ones.
It
was
to
to
figure
out
where
shelter
is
where
food
is
available.
All
of
the
social
services
that
were
needed
at
that
time.
D
D
These
guys
were
amazing
and
our
recreation
supervisors
and
recreation
manager
were
standing
there
behind
them,
giving
them
the
updates-
and
we
relayed
the
information
from
the
emergency,
such
as
emergency
center
back
to
the
staff,
and
it
was
it
was
extreme.
It
was
just
amazing
how
fast
and
how
accurate
the
information
got
there
and
what
a
wonderful
job
they
did,
and
so
all
of
them
are
truly
to
be
commended.
D
We
we
did
open
up
a
second
shelter
at
the
Senior
Center
that
same
evening.
Fortunately,
we
only
had
to
shelter
about
50
people
total
most
of
the
people
that
were
evacuated
from
the
area
over
300
homes,
r
evacuated.
Most
of
the
people,
friends
or
family
that
they
in
the
area
that
they
could
stay
with
or
were
able
to
find
other
accommodations.
D
We
also
did
breakfast
lunch
and
dinner
for
about
a
hundred
and
fifty
meals
for
eight
or
nine
days,
and
that
was
organized
again
by
our
Recreation
Services
Manager.
For
the
first
couple
of
days
and
by
other
staff
making
the
phone
calls
to
local
places.
Service
clubs
came
through
and
and
put
out
the
food,
the
Lions
Club
fed
people
for
the
first
couple
of
days
and
huge
thanks
to
them.
D
Apologize
for
getting
emotional,
this
lady
from
New
Jersey,
her
way
of
helping
out
her
old
home
town
was
the
last
two
days.
She
called
all
of
the
restaurants
in
all
stores
and
she
provided
the
food
for
breakfast
lunch
and
dinner
for
100
50
people.
It's
like
you
know,
people
didn't
forget
in
the
donations
that
came
in
were
just
amazing.
The
help
that
came
in
was
fantastic.
I
would
say
that
you
know
this
is
a
disaster
that
you
know
we
could
not
have
done
this
on
our
own.
D
D
We
had
County
Office
of
Emergency
Services,
immediately
helping
us
out
the
nonprofit
organizations
that
respond
to
these
types
of
disasters
were
there
immediately
day
to
what
we
opened
up
a
local
assistance
center
residents
who
lost
everything
they
could
come
into
the
gym
and
we
cancelled
all
of
our
programs
for
several
days
and
people
come
into
the
gym
and
you
could
get
a
copy
of
your
driver's
license.
You
get
a
Social
Security
card.
If
you
had
a
pet
and
you
were
placed
in
a
hotel
that
doesn't
take
pets.
D
D
We
are
still
involved
with
the
Recovery
Center
and
we'll
be
helping
with
the
long-term
wherever
necessary.
But
again,
if
I
give
an
all-star
award,
it's
wow
staff
did
a
fantastic
job
and
the
part-time
staff
I
think
we've
always
taking
them
for
granted
the
special
skills
and
talents
and
abilities
they
have.
So.
Thank
you
specially
to
them.
A
Wow
awesome
reported
thank
you
very
much
for
bringing
that
up
in
a
recap
of
everybody's
hard
work
and
mainly
brought
it
up
because
we
are
park
and
recreation
all
staff
and
crew
were
working.
I
saw
it
down
there.
It
was
a
very
emotional
time
and
we
were
just
trying
to
help
our
friends
and
neighbors
and
there
was
a
good
report.
Thanks
Randy
anybody
have
comments,
questions
I,
see
Commissioner,
Nigel,
really.
B
B
Also
my
wife
and
I
were
eating
in
a
neighboring
city
and
I
should
have
written
it
down
because
I
want
to
give
it
a
name,
but
this
gentleman
came
up
who
knew
me
and
said:
I
just
wanted
to
go
from
millbrae
to
San
Bruno
to
help,
and
there
was
as
fellow
Randy
Schwartz,
who
is
fabulous
and
I
just
want
to
relate
that
to
you.
Thank
you.
A
Okay,
our
next
item
on
the
agenda
is
our
upcoming
events
and
we
all
receive
the
dates
of
that
and
I
know
the
biggest
one
I'm
looking
forward
to
is
the
goblin
grotto.
That
is
october,
twenty
eighth
and
it's
pre-registration.
Did
anybody
want
to
elaborate
on
that?
It's
a
5
30
to
6,
15
or
6
45
to
seven
thirty
and
I
love
getting
these
dates
so
I,
hang
it
on
my
fridge
and
I
know
when
to
these
events
are
happening.
I
love,
this
okay,
Jenny.
G
A
D
We
have
met
with
representatives
from
Highlands,
school
and
and
orbs
Islands
athletic
program
that
approach
the
Commission
at
the
last
meeting.
They
requested
five
hours
per
week
of
gym
time
or
five
to
eight
hours
per
week,
they've
been
given
seven
hours
of
gym
time.
At
this
point,
we
are
still
continuing
to
work
with
all
of
the
groups,
the
ideas
we
need
to
work
with
them.
In
the
priority
system,
that's
established
in
the
master
fee
schedule.
D
We
are
going
to
change
the
process,
though
a
little
bit
in
the
future,
we're
going
to
treat
the
gym
use
as
we're
having
more
and
more
gym
use,
we're
going
to
treat
it
more
like
we
do
with
the
fields
where
we
will
have
a
meeting
of
the
gym
users
and
sit
down
and
have
the
schedule,
just
as
we've
done,
with
the
soccer
baseball,
softball
groups
etc
in
the
past.
So
it'll
be
a
little
bit
more
of
a
concerted
effort
rather
than
a
first-come,
first-served
basis.
D
F
F
B
A
B
A
B
E
A
I'll
go
next
seeing
them
in
line.
There
were
two
things
on
my
agenda:
Arbor
Day
was
this
past
saturday
and
I
participated
in
that.
We
headed
at
san
bruno
park
and
buckeye
park
and
you
selected
your
location
and
I
went
to
buckeye
park
because
I
very
rarely
visit
and
I
forget
what
a
beautiful
park
that
is
and
did
you
know
that
I
learned
something
new
this
weekend
that
we
have
the
longest,
the
oldest
living
memorial,
Vietnam,
Veterans
Memorial
in
buckeye
park.
It's
a
grove
of
trees
planted
by
the
Griffith
Norma
and
dick
Griffiths.
A
Thank
you
very
much.
It
was
planted.
I
saw
the
plaque
October,
fifth,
nineteen,
seventy
and
it's
the
the
oldest
living
Vietnam
Memorial
in
the
state
of
California,
and
they
started
initially
with
25
trees
and-
and
we
asked
her,
she
was
asked
why
25
trees,
simple
reason
is
that's
what
they
could
afford
at
the
time.
So
I
love
that
answer
and
we
thought
we
would
get
her
as
a
guest
speaker
because
she's
a
very
passionate
about
this
she's,
a
little
bit
shy
and
hesitant
to
do
that.
A
But
we
had
a
group
that
met
there
and
we
planted
a
few
trees
in
the
park.
I
think
we
planted
seven
or
ten
trees,
and
it
was
great
because
the
holes
were
pre
Doug,
as
in
the
past,
you
know,
we'd,
be
there
labouring
I
remember
coming
home
with
sore
shoulders.
So
was,
let's
see
it
was
Phil.
Civil
excuse
me,
facilitated
by
a
Jeff,
Madonna
chorar
burst
and
our
he's
one
of
our
supervisors
in
our
Park
Department
and
his
crew
was
out
there.
A
Steve
Freitas,
Roger,
Mariucci,
JD
I
forget
who
else
without
the
park
crew
was
great,
and
my
second
item
that
I
wanted
to
mention
is
one
of
our
commissioners.
Tom
Lehrer
is
not
here
tonight
because
he's
planning
surgery
tomorrow,
so
we
want
to
wish
him
the
best
I
know
he's
he's
nervous
about.
It.
He's
scared
and
we
just
sent
him
our
love.
So.
