Description
San Bruno City Council Meeting March 11, 2014
4. Presentations
A
Red
Cross
really
helped
us
out
over
the
last
number
of
years,
and
we
all
know
how
important
they
are
to
our
community
in
all
community.
So
I'm
going
to
read
this
declaring
marches
American
Red
Cross
month
2014,
whereas
marches
American
Red
Cross
month
a
special
time
to
recognize
and
thank
our
everyday
heroes.
Those
who
reach
out
to
help
their
neighbors
when
they
are
in
need
and
whereas
we
would
like
to
remember
our
heroes
here
in
San,
Bruno
was
his
people
in
need.
They
work
tirelessly
to
help
in
time
of
disaster.
A
When
someone
needs
life-saving
blood
or
the
comfort
of
a
helping
hand,
they
provide
around-the-clock
support
to
members
of
the
military
veterans
and
their
families
and
teach
life-saving
classes
in
CPR
aquatic
safety
and
first
day
and
whereas
the
American
Red
Cross
responded
to
hurricanes
tornadoes,
floods
and
wildfires
of
the
tragedy
at
the
Boston
Marathon
and
typhoon
Haiyan
in
the
Philippines,
when
an
injured
servicemembers
ended
up
in
a
hospital.
Far
from
home.
A
The
American
Red
Cross
offered
comfort
when
hospital
patient
needed
blood
american
red
cross
blood
donors
helped
them
and
when
a
lifeguard
jumped
in
to
save
a
drowning
child
or
someone
stepped
up
to
help
a
heart
attack
victim.
The
American
Red
Cross
was
there
and
whereas,
in
the
past
year,
the
3,000
local
volunteers
of
the
american
red
cross
bay
area
chapter
helped
more
than
730
families
with
temporary
housing,
clothing,
food
and
emotional
support
during
433
local
disasters,
our
local
chapter
trained
more
than
one
hundred
and
seventy
seven
thousand
people
in
life-saving
CPR.
B
Thank
You
honorable
mayor
lane
and
esteemed
members
of
the
San
Bruno
city
council,
my
name
is
Amy
lang.
I'm
the
chair
of
the
San
Mateo
County
Leadership
Council
for
the
Bay
Area
chapter
of
the
Red
Cross
I
thought
it's
great
to
get
the
stats
for
the
whole
chapter,
but
I
thought
you
might
like
to
hear
some
of
the
local
numbers
bring
in
a
little
closer
to
home.
B
During
the
calendar
year
2013
we
had
a
total
of
forty
incidents
with
sin
within
San
Mateo,
County
of
which
five
were
considered
major,
and
these
major
incidents
include
three
Redwood
City
fires,
the
fire
in
pescadero
and
the
SFL
as
Diana
response
in
san
bruno.
There
were
actually
two
incidents
which
involved
nine
adults
and
eight
children,
so
just
so
that
it.
B
You
know,
you
really
understand
that
worse,
all
over
San,
Mateo
County,
fortunately
for
San
Bruno,
not
as
eventful
years
in
the
past,
so
upcoming
events
I
want
to
make
sure
you
were
aware
of
the
2014
red
cross
gala,
it's
saturday
april
fifth
2014,
and
this
year
it's
going
to
be
on
the
great
lawn
at
treasure,
island
in
san
francisco.
So
this
is
our
annual
signature,
fundraising
event
for
the
American
Red
Cross
bay
area
chapter.
We
serve
4.5
million
Bay
Area
residents.
Last
year's
gala
raised
1.3
million
for
local
disaster
preparedness
response
and
recovery.
B
In
addition
to
raising
awareness
of
the
vital
role
of
the
Red
Cross
plays
and
local
and
global
communities,
and
then
this
year,
San
Mateo
County
heroes.
Breakfast
will
once
again
be
held
at
poplar
Creek
in
Santa,
popover
guilt,

sorry
in
san
mateo
on
thursday
may
29th
will
be
recognizing
our
everyday
heroes.
Those
are
members
of
our
community
and
our
neighbors,
who
have
distinguished
themselves
in
the
categories
of
life-saving
and
community
service,
as
well
as
acts
of
and
philanthropy.
So
our
deadline
was
actually
februari
28,
so
nominations
are
closed
for
2013.
B
If
there's
someone
that
you'd
like
to
nominate
feel
free
to
do
so,
the
nomination
form
is
up
for
next
year.
It's
up
year-round
actually
