Nice
to
see
you
I'm
miss
barbara
and
I'm
here
for
live
streaming
story
time
at
the
san
bruno
public
library
on
this
day
december
3rd.
It's
really
good
to
see
you
this
morning,
we're
going
to
have
some.
A
Great
stories
about
trees
and
think
about
the
beauty,
that's
around
us,
and
I
also
want
to
invite
you
to
check
out
the
winter
reading
website
at

This
is
about
my
favorite
kind
of
tree.
This
is
called
redwoods
and
it's
by
jason
chin
and
he
did
the
pictures
and
the
words
of
this
beautiful
book.
It's
by
neil
porter,
it's
neil
porter
book
by
roaring,
brook
press
redwoods.
Have
you
been
to
the
redwoods?
Do
you
know
that
we
have
quite
a
lot
of
redwoods
in
san
mateo
county?
That's
why
our
county
seat
is
called
redwood
city
right,
so
several
of
our
san
mateo
county
parks
have
beautiful
redwoods
in
them
and
they're.

B
B
B
B
If
there
is
a
fire,
their
extremely
thick
bark
shields
them
from
the
heat,
just
like
the
heat
resistant
tiles
on
the
space
shuttle,
their
branches
don't
start
until
very
high
up
200
feet
in
some
cases,
which
also
helps
protect
them
from
fire.
Since
most
forest
fires
can't
reach
their
needles,
if
a
fire
penetrates
a
redwoods
bark,
the
tree
can
still
live.
B
B
Coast
redwoods
need
a
lot
of
water
to
grow
as
tall
as
they
do
and
in
the
area
in
northern
california,
where
they
live.
It's
perfect,
it's
a
rain
forest.
The
air
is
cool
and
damp,
and
the
land
is
often
covered
in
thick
fog.
It
takes
a
long
time
for
water
to
travel
all
the
way
from
the
roots
to
the
top
of
a
redwood
and
the
fog
helps
the
trees
by
preventing
them
from
losing
moisture
to
evaporation.
B
In
addition,
the
needles
of
a
redwood
can
absorb
moisture
straight
from
the
air
in
the
summer
when
there
is
much
less
rainfall,
redwoods
have
an
ingenious
way
of
collecting
water.
They
make
their
own
rain
when
the
fog
rolls
in
it
condenses
on
the
redwoods
needles
and
whatever
moisture,
isn't
absorbed
then
falls
to
the
ground
to
be
soaked
up
by
the
tree's
roots.
Other
plants
that
live
at
the
base
of
a
redwood
tree
use
this
artificial
rain
as
well.
So
not
only
do
the
redwoods
water
themselves,
they
water,
all
the
plants
around
them.
B
B
The
branches
of
a
redwood
are
called
the
crown
or
canopy
and
start
very
high
up
in
the
trunk.
This
is
this
part
is
really
cool
to
study
redwood
crowns,
that's
the
top
of
the
redwood
scientists
have
to
climb
into
them.
This
is
not
easy,
because
the
trees
are
so
tall.
What
do
they
use
a
bow
and
arrow
to
launch
a
rope
over
the
branches?
So
it
goes
up
up
high
over
the
branch.
B
B
In
one
tree,
researchers
found
masses
of
ferns
estimated
to
weigh
more
than
sixteen
hundred
pounds,
that's
heavier
than
a
full-grown
polar
bear,
and
if
you
can't
make
it
down
to
the
redwoods
right
now,
you
might
notice
on
skyline
boulevard,
there's
some
cypress
trees
that
have
ferns
growing
in
them
right
up
by
the
oil
changers.
On
top
of
sneak.
B
No
top
of
westboro
by
sharp
park.
Road
ferns
are
not
the
only
plants
that
make
their
homes
and
redwoods
mosses,
fun.
Fungi,
bushes
and
even
trees
grow
in
the
redwood.
Canopy
researchers
have
found
a
wide
variety
of
trees
high
above
the
ground,
including
hemlocks,
bruises,
furs,
oaks
and
california.
Bays
in
one
redwood.
Researchers
found
a
california
bay
tree
growing
out
of
a
knot,
hole
300
feet
above
the
ground.
B
In
addition
to
plant
life,
scientists
have
found
many
animals
living
in
the
redwood
canopy,
including
flying
squirrels,
beetles,
earthworms,
centipedes,
spiders,
salamanders
and
yellow
banana
slugs.
My
favorite
some
animals
like
red
tree
bowls
live
their
whole
lives
in
the
tree.
Drop
tree
tops
and
never
see
the
ground.
B
B
When
a
redwood
is
injured,
the
tree
will
often
sprout
new
trunks
that
look
like
miniature
versions
of
the
tree
itself.
If
a
branch
is
damaged,
a
new
trunk
will
grow
straight
up
from
the
top
of
the
damaged
branch.
Sometimes
more
than
one
new
trunk
will
sprout
researchers
found
one
tree
with
more
than
200
trunks.
In
it,
there
was
a
forest
of
redwoods
growing
on
top
of
a
single
tree.

Leaves
breathe
for
the
tree,
trees
need
air,
just
like
you
need
air
instead
of
using
noses
and
lungs
leaves
breathe
through
thousands
of
tiny
pores
known
as
stomata
leaves
flutter
in
the
breeze.
Like
your
hair
blows
in
the
wind,
and
if
you
have
a
magnifying
glass
or
a
microscope,
you
can
put
a
leaf
under
it
and
see
these
little
circles.
Let's
see
they
are.
B
Sticky
sap
travels
through
small
tubes
inside
the
tree
between
the
roots
and
the
leaves
without
sap.
The
tree
could
not
live
just
like
your
body
could
not
live
without
blood.
Look
at
the
veins
in
a
leaf
and
compare
them
to
the
veins.
In
your
hand,
some
tree
sap
is
harvested
by
people.
Do
you
know
what
it
makes.
B
Maple
syrup
trees,
grow,
flowers
of
all
shapes
and
sizes
of
bright
and
soft
colors.
A
pretty
flower
can
attract
insects
and
birds.
Just
like
your
smiling
face
can
attract
a
new
friend
animals
feed
on
the
nectar
and
pollen
of
the
flowers.
They
help
spread
the
pollen
so
that
trees
can
make
seeds
and
grow
fruits.
B
B
B
During
winter,
some
trees
have
bare
limbs
and
twigs
that
lace
could
the
cold
sky.
This
is
the
time
when
many
trees
rest
without
their
leaves,
trees.
Rest
too,
just
like
you
when
spring
comes
the
trees
awaken
from
their
winter's
rest,
leaf
buds
swell
on
the
branches,
cherry
trees
blossom
with
more
sunshine.
The
trees
burst
with
new
life.
Just
like
you
burst
out
the
door
with
your
friends
to
play
and
celebrate
spring.
B
B
And
then,
if
you
were
to
borrow
this
book,
there's
all
this
information
about
the
trees
that
you
see
in
this
book.
They're
really
famous
trees
from
around
the
world
types
of
trees,
arches
alive
and
you
can
miss
susan-

a

the

that
we
feature
during

and
you
can

on
our
