canoe
open
space
trails,

committee
and
starting
march
1st.
We
have
the,
I
think,
it's
the
seventh
now
seventh
annual
kaneho
challenge,
where
we
pick
out
10
trails
from
various
places
throughout
the
open
space
and
encourage
the
public,
whether
local
or
sometimes
even
a
little
further
afield,
to
come
out
and
and
experience
our
trails,
whether
on
horseback
or
foot
or
on
a
bike.

then
they
they
send
in
pictures
to
social
media
and
email
me
and
let
me
know
they
did
them,
and
then
I
check
them
off
and
we
have
a
big
raffle
at
the
end
and
a
bunch
of
sponsors,
and
it's
just
a
great
way
to
to
tell
everybody
about
the
wonderful
open
spaces
that
we
have
in
the
area
and
over
the
years.
What's
been
great.
Is
that
even
long-time
residents
who
spend
a
lot
of
time
on
the
trails
they
tend
to
find
something
they've
never
seen
before?

any
of
the
the
newer
directors
to
you
know,
get
out
there
and
do
it
there's
a
lot
of
ways
that
you
can
find
some
new
fun
stuff
and
really
the
best
parts
actually
for
me
personally,
is
when
I
hear

parents

children

doing
this
as
families
and
they're
disappointed
when
they're
done
with
all

because
they
really
take
it
as
an
opportunity
to
spend
time
with
loved
ones.

just
so
that's
that's
been

best
part
for
me
personally.

always

our

our

parking
lot
at
the
end
of
avenida
de
los
arboles.
This
is
probably
my
fourth
or
fifth
time
talking
about
it.
I

You
know
all
of
this.
I've
said
this
many
times.
It's
also
having
a
deleterious
effect
on
the
environment
at
the
mesa
trailhead.
The
wise
thing
to
do,
if
you
have
a
huge
crowd
of
people,
is
not
to
situate
them
all
in
one
little
corner.
That
happens
to
be
the
most
ecologically
sensitive
area
of
the
park
right
now,
probably
tonight
people
are
walking
up
there.
It's
muddy,
the
soil
composition.
I
You
all
know
it's
very
mucky:
they
walk
on
the
sides
every
year
the
trails
are
growing,
wider
and
wider.
If
they
were
situated
at
the
canyon
bottom
at
hill
canyon,
they
would
be
in
an
area
that
recovers
quickly
because
there's
a
lot
more
moisture
in
the
canyon.
If
they
were
situated
at
the
end
of
rancho
canejo
they'd
be
walking
down
the
edison
fire
road.
Both
of
those
areas
are
much
safer
because
you're
not
being
bombarded
with
mountain
bikers
going
20
and
30
miles
an
hour
down
the
hills
on
the
mesa.

Right
now
there
are
75
signed
up,
is
going

which

all
of
their
friends
will
hear
about

so
there

be
an
extra

cars

so
showing

insane

put

only
parking
lot

wildwood
park

access

cars,

cars

go
there
every
week,
it's
more
crowded
than
runyon
canyon,

trailhead,

crowded
than

park
trailheads.

there

month
at
those
trailheads,
because
it's
less
crowded
than
where
I
live
in
thousand
oaks,
I'm
leading

hike.

going
to
stop
this
crowd.

even
ten
percent
of
it
showed
up
at
the
trailhead
near
where
you
live

in
westlake
village,
where
I've
hiked
many
times
with
your
neighbors,
the
neighborhood
would
shut
it
down.

street.

tolerate
this
for

second,

don't

dismissive

Public
infrastructures
within
the
city,
crpd
and
costco
open
space
was
damaged
or
destroyed
as
part
of
the
public
assistance
program
coordinated
by
fema
and
the
california
office
of
emergency
services.
The
city,
crpd
and
costco
are
eligible
for
cost
reimbursement
for
damaged
property
and
infrastructure.

sort
of

district
kind

plays
a
support
role

corridor
ordinance,

making

two

and

to
their
satisfaction,

why

opposition

concessions

those
amendments

debated
and
discussed

next
board

impact

the

construction

clearly
it
when,

it

first
put
together
this
strategic
plan,
we
knew
it
was
super
ambitious
and
it
was
like
everything
but
the
kitchen
sink
everything
we
could
possibly
think
of.
But
clearly
all

things,

things

say
ongoing
some
of
them
do
have
to
be
ongoing,
like
annual
brush
clearance,
those
sort
of
things,
but
it's
got
to
be
as
staff
and
funding
resources
are
available.
So
some
things
just
by
their
very
nature,
get
stretched
out
longer
than
maybe
we
initially
thought
and
other
things
perhaps
aren't
as
important.

19
and
that's
on

legislation
required
that
all
dam
owners

now
required

prepare
flood
maps
and
emergency
action
plans
and
in
our
case
a
consultant
was
retained
to
prepare
these
documents
and
those
were
submitted
to
the
state
by

required
deadline.

completed
for
that.

Okay,
last
but
not
least,
this
item
was
initially
discussed
with
the
board
during
closed
session
at
our
november
2018
meeting,
and
we're
just
pleased
to
share
that
the
case
has
been
resolved
and
we're
looking
forward
to
initiating
the
restoration
work
later
this
spring.

is
a
really
positive
outcome
in
protecting
these
additional
open
space
parcels.

Have
a
powerpoint
presentation
and
recent
ranger
operations
and
it's
mostly
post-fire
stuff,
but
we
did
have
a
trail
workday.
This
is
the
official
wishbone
trail
as
you
so
happily
named,
and
this
was
the
trail
work
day
in
the
fall.
The
we
had
about
85
people,
city
of
westlake
was
very
supportive
of
it,
they're
very
happy
with
the
trail
alignment
and
it
made
a
great
connection
for
them.

This
gives
you
a
really
good
idea
of
the
before
and
after
that
is
just
brushed
trail
where
we've
cut
back
the
existing
brush
and
then
the
volunteer
crews
came
through
and
did
the
cut.
N
So
it's
pretty
dramatic
and
you
did
see
the
map
and
the
only
thing
that's
left
is
right
at
the
park
behind
the
baseball
field
is
a
small
bridge
that
has
to
be
built
across
the
v
ditch
and
the
city
of
west
lake
is
paying
for
a
kiosk
to
be
put
in
there
for
with
information,
so
that's
upcoming,
hopefully
within
the
next
month.
So
that's
that's
pretty
fun.

That
was
all
handwork.
We've
been
very
efficient
with
the
trail
work
days,
we've
had
great
turnouts,
people
really
love
it,
and
we've
been
having
the
two
work
days.
Each
year
has
been
really
really
great,
so
we've
been
we've
been
doing
really
well
and
1.75
is
about
our
average
right
now
per
year
with
the
volunteers
so
on
to
the
fire.

So
one
of
our
rangers
happened
to
be
getting
fuel
just
as
the
hill
canyon
fire
started,
so
this
is
at
1
41
p.m,
and
that
was
just
about
two
minutes
after
it
started,
and
this
is
three
minutes
after
that.
So
from
the
first
picture
that
you
saw
and
you
can
see
spots
down
below
in
going
into
the
canyon
and
then
two
minutes
later-
that's
what
it
looked
like.
So
it
it
very
quickly
took
off
and
went
up
the
hill,
then
as
it
reached
the
top
of
the
hill
at
lizard
rock.
N
It
blew
back
into
hill
canyon
and
then
did
what
it
did.
That's
what
it
looked
like
in
the
evening
and,
of
course,
about
20
minutes
later
the
woolsey
fire
started
and
started
blowing
on
the
other
side
of
costco
open
space.
The
fire
photo
there
is
actually
the
shoemash
museum
on
the
hillside.
Above
it
I
scaled
out
the
flame
in
the
center
there
and
it's
about
75
foot
flame
lick
there
going
up
and
that
that
was
about
three
o'clock
in
the
morning.

It
was
pretty
dramatic
to
be
out
there
the
next
morning,
the
the
woolsey
file
fire
circled
through
hillcrest,
open
space
and
actually
came
up
on
our
crpd
and
the
ranger
yard,
where
we
have
all
of
our
equipment.
So
we
had
a
very
exciting
5,

6
o'clock
in
the
morning,
moving
all
of
our
equipment
to
a
safe
spot.
N
N
And
then
this
is
the
bridge.
So
after
the
fires
we
went
through
and
assessed,
damage
tried
to
make
things
as
safe
as
possible
and
from
my
experience
in
disasters,
normalization
is
the
cry
to
try
and
get
people
back
out
on
the
trails
to
try
and
get
life
back
to
normal
to
get
the
community
going,
and
so
that's
what
we've
tried
to
do.
N
This
is
part
of
making
it
safe.
So
we
had
to
actually
block
off
the
hill
canyon
bridge
quite
extensively
until
we
get
it
fixed.
There
was
some
damage
out
there.
We've
had
two
consultants
come
and
look
at
the
bridge.
We
have
another
consultant,
that's
coming
next
week
to
actually
take
two
metal
samples
off
of
the
bridge
and
do
some
high-end
metal
checking
to
make
sure
that
it's
fine
or
sections
of
it
may
need
to
be
replaced.
N
The
bridge
company
is
fully
prepared
to
come
in
and
and
help
out
with
that
they
can
fabricate
the
parts
pretty
quickly.
So
once
it's
what
the
action's
determined,
we
should
be
able
to
get
the
bridge
back
up
pretty
quickly,
but
it's
been
the
testing
and
the
looking
at
it.
For
the
past
couple
months,
that
has
been
tough
and
that's
that's
keeping
the
that
whole
side
of
the
hill
canyon
access
closed,
which
is
kind
of
frustrating.
N
But
it's
it's
pushed
people
up
to
the
sce
road
and
into
that
area,
which
has
actually
been
pretty
good.
N
We've
taken
advantage
of
the
fires
and
tried
to
do
as
much
cleanup
of
large
material
that
we
can.
We
pulled
out
old,
sewer,
pipe
and
junk
that
is
left
in
hill
canyon,
hawk
canyon
and
in
the
lang
ranch
area
as
much
as
we
can
working
with
the
fire
department
we've
removed,
I
believe
four
vehicles
from
the
60s
and
70s,
and
we
have,
I
think,
five
more
on
our
list.
We're
probably
going
to
wait
until
summertime
to
do
those
additional
five.

Let
the
healing
happen
a
little
bit
more
there's
been
pressure
to
go
out
and
pick
up
all
the
bottles,
and
things
like
that
out
there,
the
damage
that
walking
across
the
soils
would
do
far
outweighed
the
the
value
of
picking
up
bottles
and
such
and
that
that
was
a
decision
that
was
made
that
we
would
try
and
get
as
much
of
the
big
stuff.
As
we
could,
and
so
we,
the
rangers,
have
tons
and
tons
and
tons
and
tons.

We
are
waiting
for
the
spring
flush
to
see
which
ones
come
back.
We've
had
arborists
check
out
the
ones
that
are
adjacent
to
trails,
that
might
be
a
hazard,
we've
redirected
people
trails
and
such
for
the
hazardous
ones
or
removed
ones
that
were
actually
totally
burned
up.

This
is

the
work
that
the
rangers
have
been
doing,
some
of
the
bridges
that
burned
they
got
in
quickly
and
replaced
them.

We've
been
using
the
there's,
a
contract
crew
that
we
use
and
their
name
is
the
crew
they're
out
of
ojai,
so
they've
come
in
and
helped
out
with
some
of
the
work
when
they've
been
available,
but
they've
also
been
on
other
districts
and
cities
and
open
space
doing
stuff,
and
luckily
we
have
some
really
talented
rangers
that
have
been
able
to
come
in
and
do
a
lot
of
the
work
themselves.

a

to
that

we
pride
ourselves

our
signs
and
having
the
very
authentic,
open
space

a
three
or
four
of
the
rangers
and
some
of
the
ground
staff
that
are
trained
to
use
our
sign
making
machine.

So
the
crpd
ground
staff
and
rainy
days
and
inclement
weather
have
been
working
on
signage
as
well,
and
then
now
we're
getting
into
the
rainy
season-
and
I
put
this
picture
here
because
and
I
zoomed
in
a
bit
to
show
why
we
closed
the
open
space
and
part
of
it
is
I'm
talking
to
you
public,
the
you
know,
you
see
the
slippy
slidey
marks
there.

If
you
break
your
leg
or
you
twist,
your
ankle
down
in
the
canyon
or
if
you're
up
on
los
robles
or
one
of
our
trails,
there's
no
way
to
get
to
you,
because
we
can't
get
a
vehicle
to
you.
We
can't
the
rangers
can't
get
to
you.
So
please
stay
out
of
open
space
when
it
is
closed.

Okay,
one
more
thing
I
wanted
to
say
about
the
rains
when
they
were
coming
in
the
rangers
worked
with
a
sheriff
detail
to
go
into
all
of
our
regular
areas
where
we
have
people
that
are
susceptible
to
storm,
so
we
cleared
them
out
multiple
times.
I
think
four
times
we've
gone
in
to
those
areas
and
move
people.
This
is
some
of
the
damage
up
in
lang
ranch
after
the
first
big
incident.
Rain
incident
made
the
roads
pretty
slick
and
a
lot
of
material
moved
in
the
shoemash
museum.

We've
made
this
the
trail
safe
for
trees,
but
now
we've
got
so
much
mud
up
there
that
the
the
kids
are
not
able
to
go
on
a
hike
until
it
dries
out
a
little
bit
more
and
we
move
some
more
material.

Some
of
the
other
areas
that
the
rangers
have
been
working
on,
the
the
on
the
left
is
docientos
trailhead
and
then
some
of
the
washouts
in
the
that's
in
the
sunset
hills
area.
I
believe
this
is
a
lot
of
the
the
lang
ranch,
access,
roads
and
larger
trails.
We
were
able
to
get
the
trail
cat
out
into
that
area.

Here's
some
little
guys
that
are
coming
up.
This
is
a
black
sage.
That's
coming
through
from
a
root
sprout.
The
chaparral
is
highly
adapted
to
fire,
so
the
burls
actually
grow
very
quickly
back
with
saved
energy,
and
this
is
a
peony
yeah
yeah.
If
you
get
a
chance
to
see
one
of
these,
you
have
to
lay
down
on
your
your
back
and
look
up
at
them
to
enjoy
their
beauty,
but
these
are.
These
are
dormant
during
the
fire
season.

steep
section
where
we
have

put

drainage
bars.

bars
on
our
trails,
but
this
one
section
does
have
it
and
they
the
best
time
to
work
on
trail
and
learn
about
where
the
drainage
problems
are,
is
to
be
out
there
in
the
rain.
So
that's
what
the
rangers
are
doing.

love
all
the
xenothis
blooming
in
the

I

this
is
a

kind

kevin

well
over
30
years,
retired
recently,
