The presentation gives update on the below projects:

This
presentation
was
given
to
the
complete
streets
committee
at
their
march
30
2021
committee
meeting.
We
want
to
thank
the
complete
streets
committee
for
their
past
and
ongoing
commitment
and
partnership
in
the
projects
that
we
will
be
reviewing
today.
We
would
also
like
to
thank
the
mayor
and
city
council
for
their
support
of
these
projects,
as
well
as
city
departments,
including
engineering
planning
and
development
and
leisure
services.

five
projects
that
have
had
ongoing
and
current
collaboration
with
the
complete
streets
committee.
These
projects
include
the
university
avenue
project,
the
laporte,
hess
road
corridor
study,
the
us-63
enhancements,
the
chalice
road
trail
and
the
fourth
fifth,
sixth,
one
way
to
two-way
conversion
study.

underway,
and

finish
up
by
discussing
the
chalice
road
trail

conversion

The
phase
3
portion
goes
from
ainsboro
on
the
left
to
highway
63
on
the
right.
This
portion
is
currently
underway.
The
portion
from
aidsboro
to
fletcher
has
been
removed
and
is
being
reconstructed.
This
work
will
include
underground
work
such
as
storm
sewer
and
water
main.
The
remaining
portion
from
fletcher
to
highway
63
will
be
the
median
cap
work
and
enhancements.

The
university
avenue
phase
one
project
will
complete
minor
punchless
items
this
year.
Phase
2
will
have
the
remaining
recreational
trail
and
enhancements
to
be
completed
this
summer
as
well.
The
phase
3
project
will
complete
major
construction
activities
this
summer.
However,
there
may
be
some
remaining
enhancement
and
plantings
left
for
2022
the
enhancements
throughout
the
corridor
constructed
many
complete
streets.
Improvements
such
as
bus
stops,
side,
road
and
neighborhood
sidewalk
connections,
improved
ada
access,
recreational
trail
connections
such
as
the
sergeant
road
and
green
hill
trail
and
a
trail
head.

The
bridge
enhancements
are
also
anticipated
to
be
completed
this
year,
as
you
can
see
in
the
bottom
right
and
middle
picture,
some
of
the
improvements
that
have
already
been
completed
as
part
of
the
university
avenue
project.
You
can
also
see
on
the
left
the
proposed
trail
head
at
the
sergeant
road
trail
and
university
avenue
trail.

rendering
below
shows
the
proposed
enhancements
that
were
originally
designed.
The
picture
on
the
right
is
the
enhancements
that
have
been
constructed
and
planted
as
part
of
the
university
avenue
phase.
One
portion,
the
intersection,
markers
and
gateway
features
shown
below
are
currently
under
construction.

This
photo
shows
updated
street
lighting
that
has
been
used
on
other
projects
throughout
the
city
of
waterloo
that
will
be
proposed
for
the
laporte
road
corridor
in
order
to
fund
the
estimated
32
million
dollar
cost
for
the
laporte
road
hess
road
project.
The
city
of
waterloo
has
already
received
over
five
and
a
half
million
dollars
of
state
grants.

In
addition,
the
city
is
continuing
to
pursue
other
funding
sources,
including
tap
funds,
bill
grants
and
other
federal
programs.
The
first
construction
package,
the
south
end
near
shallows
road,
is
tentatively
scheduled
for
the
2022
construction
season.
Other
packages
will
be
scheduled
as
funding
allows.

Previous
enhancements
along
the
corridor
include
pedestrian
lighting
street
lighting
banner
attachment
points
on
the
bridge
street
lights,
colored
concrete
for
the
overpass
meeting
and
portions
of
the
recreational
trail.
The
current
plan
set
will
include
interpretive
signage
at
the
intersections
limestone
gateway
monuments
and
tree
plantings.

the
various
phases
and
trail
projects
along
shallows,
road
and
hess
road
near
the
lost
island
theme
parks
once
shallows
road
trail
is
complete.
It
will
provide
another
connection
for
the
metro
area
to
the
cedar
valley,
nature
trail.

also
provide
a
direct
connection
from
the
cedar
valley.
Nature
trail
to
the

island

increasing
the
amount
of
bike
tourism
from
the
cities
of
cedar,
rapids
and
iowa
city.

completing
a
study
for
the
city
of
waterloo
on
the
conversion
of
the
4th,
5th
and
sixth
streets
from
one-way
couplets
to
two-way
traffic,
from
six
corners
to
east
high
school
aecom
is
analyzing.
The
existing
traffic
flow
crash
records
and
signal
timing
and
we'll
use
that
as
a
basis
for
a
comparative
analysis
of
the
two-way
traffic
alternatives.
