From YouTube: Snow and Fire Hydrants
Description
Battalion Chief Beck shows and explains why it's important to shovel out the hydrants in front of your home or business.
A
With
winter
weather
upon
us,
one
of
the
things
that
gets
overlooked,
a
lot
of
the
times
is
shoveling
out
fire
hydrants.
If
you
have
a
fire
hydrant
in
front
of
your
home,
or
you
know
where
the
fire
hydrant
is
on
your
street,
that's
the
fire
hydrant
we're
going
to
use.
If
your
house
catches
on
fire
being
able
to
shovel
out
around
that
hydrant
a
minimum
of
three
feet
five
feet
even
better,
really
helps
us
when
it
comes
to
getting
a
water
onto
the
fire
whenever
the
plows
go
across
the
roads
and
push
that
snow.
A
One
of
the
first
things
that
gets
buried
is
the
fire
hydrants
being
able
to
have
quick
and
easy
access
to
that
fire.
Hydrant
is
critical
for
a
quick
and
fast
response
and
fire
knockdown.
What
we
ask
our
citizens
to
do
is
to
shovel
out
three
feet
around
at
minimum,
preferably
five
feet
around
the
fire
item.
A
A
The
biggest
hole
that's
covered
by
a
cap
is
clear.
Typically
that
one
is
facing
the
road.
That's
not
always
the
case.
We
want
to
make
sure
that
that's
why
we
have
that
wide
berth
out,
so
that
big
holes
can
come
around
if
you're,
unable
to
to
shovel
out
your
own
fire
hydrant
or
you
notice,
the
one
on
your
street
doesn't
shovel
out.
