Description
COVID-19 Briefing for the City of Watertown, SD - 03-27-2020
A
B
Good
afternoon,
looking
today
at
a
South,
Dakota's
case
counts
we're
seeing
we
have
a
hundred
and
one
positive
cases,
so
that
is
11
cases
more
than
we
had
yesterday.
Fortunately,
we
have
3478
negative
cases.
Zero
cases
are
pending
at
the
State
Health
lab.
Of
course,
there
still
can
be
some
cases
pending.
This
is
pending
at
the
State
Health
lab
at
this
time,
but
what
we're
hearing
is
there's
been
great
turnaround
time
at
the
State
Health
lab
as
weather,
as
also
as
other
health
labs
that
are
running
the
kovat
testing.
B
We
have
a
number
of
cases
again
as
a
hundred
and
one
we
only
have
one
death
and
thirty-four
persons
have
recovered.
As
you
may
be
aware,
we
do
have
five
cases
in
Carrington
County,
but
also
counties
that
surround
us
have
started
seeing
cases
Clark
County
has
one
dual
County
has
one
hamlin
has
one
and
that
meeting
to
leave
anyone
out
in
the
Sun
intentionally
people
it's
getting
closer
to
home.
Now
we
are
seeing
positive
cases
in
our
community.
We
ask
that
you,
please
follow
all
guidelines
that
you've
been
given
and
please
take
care
of
yourself.
B
What
happens
when
we
have
a
positive
case?
The
Department
of
Health
is
notified
of
the
positive
Cova
test.
The
Department
of
Health
will
be
in
contact
with
you
if
you're
the
positive
person
from
there
they're
gonna
ask
you
to
identify
your
close
contacts
and
close
being
within
six
feet
from
the
time
that
you
started
your
symptoms
until
the
time
that
you
went
into
isolation
or
that
your
test
was
positive,
so
hopefully
with
social
distancing
that
you've
kept
that
number
real
short
and
sweet
the
Department
of
Health
and
will
be
contacting
your
close
contacts.
C
Good
afternoon
my
name
is
Joe
VTech
and
I
am
have
the
privilege
of
leading
the
volunteer
branch.
While
this
kovat
19
crisis
is
in
play,
we
have
a
very,
very
capable
group.
That's
working
in
the
volunteer
branch
and
I
just
want
to
bring
some
of
those
folks
to
names
to
the
forefront,
so
you
know
who
they
are
and
to
go
to
people
Julie
Knutson
is
helping
with
and
she's
doing,
some
marketing
and
PR
along
with
Missy
center
from
the
Goss.
C
We
also
have
Brenda
Hinton
a
county
commissioner
who's
working
with
us
and
she's
our
main
liaison
with
a211
group.
We
also
have
Tammy
rody
and
Catherine
Catherine
Danford,
who
is
also
providing
a
lot
of
clerical
assistance
for
us.
We
have
Lee
Lorenzen,
who
has
been
just
a
real
godsend
for
us,
because
he's
been
doing
a
lot
of
data
up
load
to
the
database
for
the
2-1-1
Center.
In
fact,
the
last
word
that
I
got
from
him
a
little
after
midnight
last
night
was
that
we
have
about
400
resources
that
are
being
formatted.
C
If
you
will
and
ready
to
upload
into
that
2-1-1
system.
For
those
of
you.
That
may
not
know
about
that.
It's
it's
2-1-1!
It's
a
system,
that's
housed
out
of
South
Dakota,
but
it
serves
our
entire
state,
the
city
in
the
county
they
contracted.
If
you
will
with
that
system,
probably
in
February,
and
so
we
have
been
tasked
with
uploading
that
database
with
numerous
resources
as
well
as
volunteers
and
so
I'll
go
over
some
of
that
info
with
you
here
shortly
as
far
as
what
opportunities
exist
for
you
to
volunteer.
C
We
also
have
Jenna
Moffett,
who
a
lot
of
people
know
from
her
days
at
wisp
and
Jenna.
Is
our
Facebook
advisor
she's
actually
coordinating
a
Facebook
page
right
now
for
any
local
folks
who
may
need
someone
to
maybe
go
to
the
grocery
store
for
them,
or
maybe
pick
up
some
medications
or
something
like
that?
You
can
find
Jenna
Moffett
easily
on
on
Facebook
and
she
will
be
able
to
help
you
and
assist
you
with
those
needs,
and
we
also
have
Jerry
Tim,
who
is
our
liaison
with
a
Chamber
of
Commerce?
C
C
You
could
provide
some
labour
assistance
transport,
some
educational
services-
if
that's
in
your-
if
that's
in
your
toolkit
pastoral
services,
that's
a
huge,
that's
a
huge
need
that
we
have
health
and
wellness
medical
services,
technology
services,
clerical
phone
or
any
other
kind
of
organizational
skill
set
that
you
might
have
that
you
would
want
to
volunteer,
and
then
we
have
that
category
I'm,
not
sure,
but
I
just
want
to
help.
And
so
we
want
you
to
sign
up
as
an
individual.
C
And
of
course
we
know
that
there
are
some
organizations
out
there,
primarily
some
churches,
maybe
some
nonprofits,
some
groups
that
want
to
that
want
to
do
this
as
a
group
while
maintaining
social,
distancing,
of
course,
and
so
they
can
go
to
w-w-what
or
town
SD
to
11.com.
And
so
let's
say
you
got
a
church
organization
and
you've
got
a
group
of
people
that
want
to
volunteer
and
you
want
to
go
together.
Go
to
ww-what
are
town
SD
to
11.com
and
sign
up
as
a
group
and
we'll
make
sure
that
that
that
gets
coordinated.
C
C
Josh
has
stepped
up
and
has
agreed
to
serve
as
our
area
representative
for
an
initiative
again
in
a
partnership
with
feed,
South,
Dakota
and
and
two
two
two
one
one
where
we
are
bringing
food,
because
we
want
to
make
sure
that
people
that
maybe
have
lost
their
job
or
are
facing
some
kind
of
a
hardship
that
that
they
don't
go
hungry.
So
every
Thursday,
every
Thursday
at
4
p.m.
and
also
in
partnership
with
the
police
department,
you're
going
to
find
volunteers
and
in
front
of
the
Boys
and
Girls
Club
at
4
p.m.
C
every
Thursday,
and
there
you'll
have
a
police
officers
friendly
police
officers
that
are
directing
you
in
and
last
week
we
fed
500
people
in
maybe
an
hour
and
a
half
I
think
we
were
done
by
by
6
o'clock.
We
started
at
4:00,
and
so
we
need
people
to
pack
those
foods
and
we
need
people
to
sort
that
if
you
will
and
box
them.
If
you
will
getting
ready
for
and
then
we
also
need
help
with
distribution,
and
we
need
help
with
folks
that
are
actually
recording
some
information.
C
We
supply
gloves
and
we
and
we
make
sure
that
we
have
social
distancing
going
on,
and
so
it's
a
safe
environment,
relatively
safe
environment,
and
so
we
want.
We
need
your
help
with
that,
and
so,
if
you
want
to
sign
up-
and
you
want
to
help
with
that
food
distribution
that
takes
place
on
every
Thursday
at
4:00
p.m.
please
do
so
by
going
to
the
2/1
ones
website
and
signing
up,
and
we
can
coordinate
that.
We
have
several
folks
that
are
helping
with
that.
I
just
want
to
mention
who
they
are.
C
It's
a
Watertown
community
cares
and
this
group
was
actually
a
group
that
formed
on
their
own
prior
to
me
ever
getting
involved,
and
that
includes
for
the
kids
of
South
Dakota,
the
Boys
and
Girls
Club.
First
United
Methodist
Church
Lutheran
Church
of
our
Redeemer.
We
had
folks
from
the
Family
Worship
Center.
We
also
had
people
from
PAC
and
Salvation
Army
and
Watertown
love
and,
of
course,
as
I
said,
Joshua
is
leading
that
up
and
is
our
liaison
with
the
city
of
Watertown.
C
Again,
this
is
a
huge,
a
huge
service,
that's
being
done
by
a
lot
of
wonderful
people
that
have
stepped
up
to
meet
need
and
as
we
progress
mayor
and
in
citizens,
we
will
continue
to
let
you
know
about
some
volunteer
opportunities
and
services
that
are
available
to
meet
you
in
this
time
of
need.
Thank
you.
D
Good
afternoon
I'm
mayor
Sarah
Karen,
we
have
more
cases
in
Coddington
County
now,
and
cases
are
starting
to
pop
up
in
the
neighboring
counties
as
well.
This
was
expected,
and
it's
no
reason
for
alarm,
we'll
likely
see
even
more
cases
as
time
goes
on,
and
that's
the
reason
that
we're
taking
proactive
steps
we
all
have
to
do
our
part.
So
I'm,
just
going
to
remind
you
I
know,
you've
heard
this
a
lot
stay
home
if
you're
feeling
sick
and
if
you
have
symptoms
that
you
think
are
abnormal
stay
home
and
monitor
your
symptoms.
D
If
you
develop
a
fever
or
the
symptoms
of
Kovan,
which
include
a
cough
shortness
of
breath,
you
need
to
call
your
provider
and
ask
what
to
do.
Don't.
Take
yourself
to
the
clinic
or
the
hospital
call.
First
exercise:
good
hygiene
by
washing
your
hands
often
and
avoid
touching
your
face.
The
washing
your
hands
often
is
probably
the
single
most
important
thing
that
you
can
do
to
protect
yourself
from
getting
the
disease.
D
The
social
distance
is
very,
very
important
if
someone
is
positive
for
kovat
and
doesn't
realize
it
if
you're
keeping
a
social
distance
from
them,
you
won't
get
the
disease,
so
that's
good
to
know,
and
it
it's
very
important
to
avoid
crowds.
Now
we
need
our
exercise
for
our
own
mental
health
and
our
physical,
health
and
I
don't
want
to
tell
people
to
stop
getting
exercise.
It's
really
important.
We
have
our
bike.
Paths
are
removed
of
snow
now,
most
of
them
and
people
are
getting
outside
and
exercising
that's
really
good.
Our
parks
are
open.
D
You
need
to
use
them
with
the
social
distance
in
mind,
so
we
are
seeing
some
trouble
spots
now.
The
skate
park,
for
instance,
has
been
crowded
with
children
using
it,
and
we
want
kids
to
use
it,
but
they
need
to
know
that
they
have
to
maintain
that
six-foot
social
distance
or
they
shouldn't
be
there,
and
if
you
have
a
child
that
may
not
be
able
to
do
this
on
their
own.
You
shouldn't
allow
them
to
go
there.
D
Parents
need
to
be
responsible
for
their
kids
and
the
older
kids
need
to
be
responsible
for
themselves
and
others.
They
may
not
be
concerned
that
they
would
get
terribly
ill
with
kovat
19,
but
if
they
do
contract
it,
they
can
give
it
to
someone
else
who
might
be
at
risk.
So
this
is
very,
very
important
if
we
have
to.
We
will
close
down
areas
where
we
are
seeing
violations
of
the
social
distance,
but
we'd
rather
see
people
just
pay
attention
to
the
guidelines
and
adhere
to
them.
D
Please
do
not
participate
in
activities
which
a
six-foot
social
distance
is
not
possible,
so
people
are
getting
out
and
they're
using
our
park
facilities.
This
is
good
and
if
you
are
keeping
your
social
distance,
that's
going
to
make
it
just
fine
and
I've
seen
it
myself.
I
I
rode
my
bike
around
the
lake
this
weekend
and
it's
very
easy
to
give
yourself
of
plenty
of
room,
as
there
are
a
lot
of
people
on
the
path,
but
people
migrate
to
one
side
or
the
other,
and
you
can
pass
very
safely
and
so
I
can
vouch.
D
For
that.
It's
a
good
thing.
We
need
to
stick
together
and
remain
in
non-stop
support
of
the
community
efforts
that
we're
taking
to
ease
the
impact,
there's
so
many
ways
that
you
can
help
and
Joe
VTech
listed
a
bunch
of
them.
We
will
get
through
this
together
and
I.
Want
you
to
just
know
you
have
a
dedicated
team
working
to
keep
our
community
healthy
and
you
are
part
of
a
very
caring
community.
Thank
you.
A
E
A
question
for
the
mayor
mayor
since
Friday
the
positive
cases
have
increased
by
three
over
the
weekend
and
we
anticipate
that
those
numbers
will
continue
to
grow,
as
indicated
by
the
governor
and
the
Department
of
Health
does.
Does
that
change
anything
as
far
as
day-to-day
business
is
concerned
in
the
city?
What's
the
plan
going
forward,
we
know
and
we
anticipate
that
those
cases
will
be
increasing
right.
D
Nothing
has
changed
right
now.
The
we
believe
that
the
measures
that
we've
taken
are
working,
that
I
mean
we
are
seeing
an
increase
in
numbers,
but
we're
still
very,
very
low
compared
to
most
other
places.
So
that's
good
and
if
we're
seeing
people
violating
the
social
distance
requirements
or
if
it
starts,
the
numbers
start
approaching
our
point
where
our
health
care
facilities
can't
keep
up,
then
you
will
see
it
change
and
we're
talking
about
that.
D
I've
been
having
conference
calls
with
the
various
mayor's
across
the
state
frequently
and
we're
all
grappling
with
this
together
and
we
are
seeing
a
lot
of
people
take
advantage
of
the
work
from
home
and
thankfully,
in
this
day
and
age,
we're
able
to
do
that.
A
lot
of
the
city
employees
are
now
working
from
home
and
they're
there
offsetting
their
shifts
and
so
that
they
come
in
and
they're
they're,
not
having
contact
with
other
people.
Business
continues
as
usual.
D
F
B
So
right
now
it's
still
in
limited,
not
anybody
and
everybody
can
walk
in
and
have
a
test
done
again.
The
the
private
testing
sites,
as
well
as
the
public
Department
of
Health,
have
more
test
kits,
but
they're
still
criterion.
You
need
to
have
the
signs
and
symptoms
of
having
the
fever
greater
than
100
the
cough
or
shortness
of
breath
to
have
it
sent
to
the
State
Health
lab
and
a
prioritized
testing
would
be
health
care
providers,
people
and
communal
living
and.
B
F
B
And
it's
exciting
with
all
these
new
things
coming
for,
but
we
wait
for
the
proper
recommendations
and
the
guidances
and
our
lab
directors.
Our
lab
director,
as
well
as
other
lab
directors,
I
propose,
will
be
reviewing
the
information
of
this
new
test
and
seeing
how
we
can
implement
it
in
our
area.
If
it's
possible.
Okay,.
B
Defined
in
which
way
Sanford
has
their
guidances
and
rules,
but
we've
been
working
with
all
the
healthcare
with
quick
care,
Brown,
Clinic,
Sanford
clinic
Garcia,
Family
Clinic,
we're
all
working
together
and
having
meetings
that
we
can
be
as
consistent
as
possible
and
the
messages
we
deliver
in
the
cares
that
are
provided
in
the
evaluations
we
have
and
and
working
together
to
make
this
as
seamless
as
possible
for
our
community.
Sorry
Thank.
F
B
E
B
I
could
answer
that,
for
you
to
write,
ER
is
maintaining,
as
they
always
do
and
for
whatever
cases
are
coming
their
way
for
incidents
and
in
providing
cares
and
their
normal
I
know,
they're
prepared
well
prepared
for
kovat
and
have
all
the
PPE
ready.
We
have
the
screening
tools
in
place
for
anyone
arriving.
We
still
ask
for
heads-up
if
you
think
you're
coming
with
that,
but
I'm
unsure
of
how
many
are
actually
coming
in
with
symptoms
as
well
as
I'm,
not
sure
what
we're
seeing
in
all
the
other
healthcare
facilities
in
our
area.
E
B
Okay,
we're
being
good
stewards
instead
of
the
testing.
We
can't
test
everybody
that
wants
to
be
tested,
but
that's
also
not
recommended
by
CDC
and
other
we're
still
following
the
guidelines
for
them,
as
well
as
the
South
Dakota
Department
Health
they've
been
great
resources
now
here
of
new
articles
of
different
recommendations,
and
we
do
watch
for
those
recommendations
to
see
if
they're
backed
because
one
study
is
great.
B
But
we
need
to
have
more
backing
to
those
studies
to
know
that
they're
relevant
to
use
and
PPE
we're
trying
to
be
good
stewards
as
well
as
I
know.
The
facilities
in
our
community
are
and
we're
following
CDC
guidance
on
the
creative
ways
that
we
can
make
our
PPE
last
longer.
We'd
love
to
have
an
overabundance,
but
we're
working
hard
with
what
we
have
Thank
You.
E
E
D
Unfortunately,
we
have
been
able
to
close
the
door
on
the
possibility
of
flooding,
yet
the
groundwater
levels,
still
our
historic
high
levels
and
the
streams
are
flowing
fall.
The
lake
is
over
full
and
so
we're
vulnerable
right
now,
if
we
were
to
have
a
heavy
rain
event,
we
could
possibly
see
some
flooding,
but
we're
watching
very
carefully.
There's
nothing
in
the
forecast
of
concern
at
this
time.
But
it's
under
surveillance
constantly
can
reassure
you
of
that.
Okay.
E
Thank
you
question
for
Jill
VTech
Joe
you're
in
charge
of
the
volunteer
group
and
I
guess.
I
was
notified
today
that
Lake
area
tech
is
now
making
face
shields
and
face
masks
using
their
robotics
department,
which
is
incredible,
but
if
somebody
would
would
like
more
information
or
if
they
need
assistance,
how
do
they
reach
out
and
contact
somebody
to
get
that
assistance
through
the
volunteer
group?
That's.
C
That's
a
great
question
so,
first
and
foremost
that
2-1-1
is
our
is
our
triage,
and
so
you
can
go
there
as
somebody
who
wants
to
volunteer
or
you
can
go
there
to
find
a
resource,
they
would
make
that
connection
because
they
have
folks
answering
the
phone
all
the
time,
and
so
that
would
be
first
and
foremost
that
database
that
I
spoke
of
that
Leigh
Lorenza
is
putting
together.
We
also
have
access
to
that
here
locally,
and
so,
if
we
needed
to,
we
could
certainly
make
a
response
as
well.
Okay,.
