City of York Council has launched a local test and trace system to help people who have recently tested positive and aid in the city’s ongoing efforts to stop the spread of the Coronavirus. Hello, I'm fiona phillips york's assistant director of public health. I want to explain how our local contact tracing system works. The team offers advice and support to those who have tested positive for coronavirus.

If you test positive, the national nhs test and trace system will try to get in touch with you. Initially, you will be invited to complete the details of people. You have been in contact with online.

The online portal remains open for a limited time period. So, if you don't complete it, the national team will then try to phone you. They will keep trying for 48 hours, calling up to 10 times so. Completing your details, online or answering the phone will mean less calls.

If the national system can't get hold of you, the details will be passed to us before calling we will text you to let you know to expect a call from us. We will try three times in 24 hours to speak to you and because it is so important that we speak to you. If you have tested positive for coronavirus, if we still can't get hold of you, we will visit you at home.

Our priority is your well-being. We will ask how you are feeling and let you know about the support available. This could be support in collecting food and medicines, social support or how to access financial support, because we are public health professionals. We can answer any questions you have about coronavirus or any of the local restrictions.

It's important to remember that we will never ask you for your bank or credit card details or ask for passwords. Nor will we call or ask anyone to dial a premium rate number to speak to us. We always call from a local york number, because we are your local public health team.

We will ask you about any recent close contacts who may need to self-isolate and venues you have visited in the days prior to becoming unwell.

Your contacts will be followed up by the national test and trace service and offered advice.

Isolating people that are covered positive and finding and isolating their contacts is one of the most important things we can do in the fight to slow the spread of coronavirus. Thank you to everyone, who's already engaging with us. We are here to help. We know it is a difficult time, but everyone's support and patience is appreciated.

As a city we've come together all year to support each other. Together, we can slow the spread of the virus and keep the people we love safe and the places we love.
