Description
Iain is a Smarter York Officer with the City of York Council. His team works closely with residents and ‘Friends Of’ groups to turn community pride into initiatives that keep our green spaces looking beautiful and feeling safe. Sometimes this takes the form of volunteer makeovers and litter collections, however more often than not resident involvement goes beyond a single day as they get involved in the ongoing running of parks and gardens.

My
role
within
the
team
is
about
working
with
local
residents,
community
groups
and
businesses
to
help
create
and
maintain
safe,
clean
and
attractive
public
spaces
and
neighborhoods,
with
a
real
sense
of
community
I,
get
to
work
with
a
wide
range
of
enthusiastic
and
hardworking
local
residents
who
volunteer
through
membership
of
friends
of
groups
through
the
snow
warden
scheme
or
via
your
cares,
a
charity
who
partner
with
over
40
local
businesses
having
the
result
of
a
work
fast
like
this
means
we
can
take
on
projects
that
have
a
real
impact.

Regularly
consult
with
my
council
colleagues
to
ensure
the
volunteers
contribution
complements
the
work
the
council
is
able
to
undertake.
We've
carried
out
a
number
of
volunteer
makeovers.
Their
places
like
West,
Bank,
Park
pruning
the
plants,
clearing
footpaths,
litter,
picking
and
getting
rid
of
weeds
can
make
such
a
difference
to
a
space.

Community
involvement
in
the
city's
parks
is
long-standing
and
the
work
we
do
is
all
about
harnessing
that
community
pride
what
I
enjoy
most
about.
My
role
is
working
with
some
fantastic
people
who
have
helped
us
make
a
real
difference.
People
who
are
dedicated
to
helping
our
city,
the
green
spaces.
We
have
in
your
car,
so
important
contributing
to
the
quality
of
life
and
character
of
this
city,
so
renovating
spaces
that
are
fall
into
bad
shape,
benefits
the
entire
community.
