Opportunity, as your elected representatives to collaborate openly.

And make decisions that will decide the future direction of our public schools.

And the education of our children here in clay county, if you wish to address.

The board there will be an opportunity to speak for three minutes. Please fill.

Out a card which you will find located in the back of the room indicate the.

Specific item or topic, you wish to speak about and turn it in promptly. You may.

And awards recognize clay all-star athletes of the month. Mr. mike wingate.

Good evening, superintendent board members. Thank you for this time.

E

That we get to recognize some of our just unbelievable students and we just.

E

Want to take this time, we've got most of them here. We actually have some students.

E

Who may not be here because they're in events tonight, everything else which is.

E

Great everything, okay: we want to start off in no particular, but something we.

E

Call the clay county athlete of the month. First of all, I think the superintendent and his staff, my fellow staff members, they have been so.

E

Supportive in some of the new programs that we're doing- and this is one of.

E

Those just to tell you just a little bit about it. This is a program we started this year, along with the athletic directors, so just put in hours and hours.

E

They don't get enough credit, but we started this year and this is a program.

E

Where we recognize one male athlete one female athlete each month, the athletic.

E

Directors work with their coaches at the school. They get nominations from their.

E

Coaches and then they narrow it down to one and then they send it in to the.

E

District to myself, it has to be athletes that are in season a sport. That's going.

E

On at the current time and like I said they send these nominations, so we have.

E

Seven male seven female each month that are sent in now. Here's the criteria that.

E

We are looking for it. I can tell you that I'm gonna be a little biased here.

E

On this thing, I didn't want the athlete you know score 35 points. Last night I.

E

Had 250 yards rushing, this is called the clay county all-star athlete of the.

E

Month this is a truly an all-star. So when you look at the criteria, yes, it has.

E

To do with sports so outstanding athletic accomplishments, but we're also.

E

Talking to our kids about sportsmanship, so we wanted the athletic directors and.

E

The coaches to pick people who demonstrate a great sportsmanship during.

E

Games and in practice on a daily basis, yeah also, we wanted them to have a.

E

Strong work ethic and demonstrate the leadership abilities and then the.

E

Finally, this is certainly not the least employee. This is the most important we.

E

Wanted them to perform at a high level in the classroom, so they had to have a.

E

3.0, gpa or higher, as you know, hsa what car is just a 2.9.

E

We said no, no, we want these people to be much higher and I can tell you when you.

E

Give these seven males seven female nominee, the form that they send in to me.

E

It is simply outstanding what our young people are doing. So what.

E

We do, is we end up selecting one of each each month we do a little interview.

E

We're going to show you just a short film clip of a video just a second, the.

E

Schools, the ones who aren't shows and they're recognized by their schools on.

E

The announcements- usually it's done at lunchtime, so you got you know cafeteria.

E

Full of kids in there we invite them to the end of the year. Clay, isle county.

E

Coaches team bank, a ceremony where they'll be recognized and then of course.

E

As we're doing tonight, we're recognizing them at the school board we'll do one in the supporting also. So let me just show you- and I want to thank mr. nicole.

E

Snyder she has been such a big help and getting the pictures videos putting on.

E

The board I mean on the district website and all that kind of stuff we go to each.

E

One of the selections- and we make a short video, so it gives them a chance to.

E

Be in front of the camera and they have to answer some questions, and we put this.

E

On the website, so you can see all eight that have been chosen so far so right.

E

Now it's just looking at just a short video here.

Cycad we were at middleburg high school home of the broncos principal roger.

Daley and athletic director alan power, another one of our great schools in clay.

County and we've got another athlete of the month.

All-Star mallory ronan bowery plays a couple of horsepower. Congratulations.

First of all, everything else gets you a picture on the wall now how's. It feel.

When you won't mind- and you see a picture of yourself here in the hallways.

At middleburg high school- oh it's pretty cool, did you know not? Everyone gets had.

The opportunity, like everyone in school, see you now you play the sport.

You recognize that yoplait just once more you play too. In fact, in today's.

Time where athletes tend to be specializing, your athletic director told.

E

Me that it's great that you excel at two sports, not besides volleyball what else.

E

Do you play, I play basketball and that definitely helps me. Volleyball, like this.

Ones go hand in hand, and you played this is your fourth year as a senior fourth.

E

Year, playing volleyball and basketball other things, so a lot of success tell us.

E

About basketball: first, what position you play? Basketball.

E

I really like everything like I can, since I'm tall I can go down low, but I.

F

Can also like dribble and shoot to be a guard because I was little. I was short.

F

So I started out playing guards, but since I'm taller now those forward hi.

E

Each one of those is usually about four or five six minutes long and it's just.

E

Fun working with the kids on that and seeing them interact nicole, can attest.

E

To this we've done eight. So far, we've only had to reshoot one so they've done.

E

A great job and everything else, so that's what we're here tonight just to recognize those students. Again, the emphasis is on not only what they're.

E

Doing athletically, but what they're doing in the classroom and leadership so.

E

I just want to the board and the superintendent know we put a lot of emphasis on that. So we've got them here tonight, so we're gonna call their names.

Out real quick, first of all the august athletes of the month and some again may.

The one even the ones that weren't selected for district, the other ones, are.

Important but we want to recognize the night, our academic team champions.

They're here tonight, as well they're doing it in a classroom they're doing it.

Out there are clubs and all those kind of good stuff. All of you aware of our.

Academic team championships we have high school junior, varsity and junior high of.

Course, our high school students, the all county team, will be going to orlando in.

The spring time for that competition, when they get back we'll see how they've.

Done we'll be at a board meeting just to introduce those folks, but for tonight to.

Introduce the champion schools for this year's academic season. We've got our.

Liaison between the district and the schools, he is also a moderator. Mr.

Rumsen has worked for many years with the academic teams he's going to.

Introduce the teams and award the trophies, so mr. quillan wilson.

We have no presenters our showcase tonight. We're doctors, inlet is on the.

Map tonight, yeah all right doctors in an elementary school carolyn is principal.

A

Now you're gonna have to go some to beat the bucket club they're hard to be every.

I

Time a club there wonder I told her, we would ask, have some data questions after.

I

She's finished to write all right good evening: school board members, mr. davis.

And families of clay county, it is my honor as principal of doctors, inlet.

Alongside with my assistant, principal ruth casillas and all of our teachers to.

J

Celebrate doctors in the elementary school with you, doctors, inlet, is an.

J

Established neighborhood school built in 1977 with 2nd and 3rd generation of.

J

Families attending here we are a staple in the community and fun fact. We have.

J

The first post office in clay county on our campus through the hard work and.

J

Dedication last year, doctors inlet was able to move.

J

Up school grades to become an a school, our 6th grade had the highest lexical.

J

Growth in the county for the month of november, gaining 95, lexile points and.

J

During fsa last year, classrooms who implemented eureka had a hundred percent.

J

Learning gains with our lowest quartile of students.

J

To improve teaching and learning this year, we'd redesigned our plc's based.

J

Around educational topics, our teachers chose we partner with other clay county.

J

Schools to improve opportunities, first staff to observe master teachers in the.

J

County this, alongside with increased communication data meetings and staff.

J

Recognitions helped to improve the climate and culture of doctors, inlet to.

J

Start the year to start the year we met with each grade level to discuss their.

J

Achievements, we celebrated our 4th through 6th grade students who made.

J

Great gains on fsa celebrating their efforts on a job well done. We.

J

Implemented hot celebrations for students who were here and on time every.

J

Day and our must a morning, labs are open lab times for students to come in and.

J

Get extra help before school. Our primary grades build the foundation.

J

For all learning that takes place, teachers implement hands-on activities.

J

Provide student engagement, teach social skills and incorporates team activities.

J

Into their classrooms to build a love of learning, our middle grades continue. This.

J

Work with real-world activities and students begin to take ownership in.

J

Their learning and our 5th and 6th grade students set the example for others to.

J

Follow through opportunities provided here, we.

J

Help them prepare for the 21st century of learning and don't forget about our.

J

Resource teachers, they support classroom standards by creating activities which.

J

Enhance academic knowledge all while having fun music students are coding in.

J

Class art classes incorporate math and science and all their projects and steam.

J

Is infused during media and pe times.

J

Speaking of steam, students are exposed to the problem-solving process.

J

Collaboration critical thinking, skills and hands-on learning now employers look.

J

For students who are creative, who can problem, solve and have good.

J

Communication skills think about it. Some of the jobs are created today.

J

We haven't even haven't even been created, yet we are preparing them for.

J

The future our family's business partners and community members came.

J

Together to beautify campus before the start of school, there is no better.

J

Feeling than coming back to a clean and updated campus in august during donuts.

J

For dads this year, families became kids again building with legos, drawing with.

J

Chalk and steam activities in the media center, but one of the most exciting.

J

Things about this activity was families were engaged with each other learning.

J

Laughing building and having fun together our veterans day program, this.

J

Year, pay tribute to americans heroes, all grade levels and several of our clubs.

J

Participated in this event, including ridge view high school's junior rotc at.

J

The end each branch of the military was recognized and awarded thank-you cards.

J

From our students to honor their sill and celebrate their heroism, one of the.

J

Overwhelming notes from parent surveys over the summer was there was nothing.

J

For our younger students to do at doctor's inland, we had chorus and track.

J

And all these events for the older kids, but the younger kids wanted to be.

J

Involved so we changed that this year we offer both year-long and nine weeks.

J

Clubs for our students in kindergarten through sixth grade the most well.

J

Attended clubs are actually our younger clubs, such as fun and fitness club sign.

J

Language club and mo willems folks, these clubs help our students to feel a sense.

J

Of pride and community at doctors inlet, even though we improve leaps and bounds.

J

Over the past several years there are still opportunities for growth. We will.

J

Focus on learning gains for our lowest quartile of students will work smarter.

J

By cross-curricular teaching in all of our subjects, and we will help students.

J

To increase their ownership learning by setting goals and helping them to track.

J

Their progress we are here to take doctors, ellen and inlet to the top of.

J

The county, we will continue to improve our student learning with rigorous.

J

Classrooms and student engagement, we will build.

J

Opportunities for our struggling students to have pain, assistance through.

J

Small group instruction and we will build strong community and business.

J

Partnerships through our teamwork. Finally, we will build a mentoring.

J

Program to help in all aspects of our children's lives and I'll leave you with.

To make sure that we highlight some important initiatives and projects that.

We're taking on under you know, within the county in order to continue to.

K

Communicate to the community about what's what's working and what we.

K

Continue to improve this month, I'd like to talk about the current graduation.

K

Rates for clay county and then talk about the open, controlled, enrollment.

K

Window that will launch in this month and then discuss the state of schools.

K

And discuss business plus and then identify our champion of change for the.

K

Month of january, as you know you in the last couple weeks, the you know.

K

Graduation data came out and, as you can see, this slide right here shows a.

K

Tremendous number of highlights within the organization this is all contributed.

K

To the great teachers support staff leaders, college, career coaches, you know.

K

Staff at the school who have worked tremendously hard to to make this a.

K

Reality, you know, and you see, that as a 2.3 percentage increase from last year.

K

And overall, in the last two years, is a six percentage point increase and I have.

K

To say: well, it's a hard work of every one of our students and parents and.

K

Caregivers and teachers and school counselors, I have to say terry connor,.

K

Has done a fabulous job, putting systems and processes in place to make that.

K

Happen he's the assistant superintendent of curriculum instruction.

K

In addition, you see over the last instance 2011, you see a sixteen point.

K

Five percent increase within with in clay county, which is significant growth.

K

We see that we continue to outpace the state, as relates to our graduation rate,.

K

And for the first time ever, we've had a record high of reaching over ninety.

K

Percent of the of our students graduate in in clay county here just a six-year.

K

Analysis, this shows our our trend and we continue to continue to have a.

K

Trajectory that puts us in a in a positive manner and then we continue. We.

K

Will continue to build on this as a foundation as we continue to grow these numbers and make certain we are preparing our students to be full option.

K

Graduates every single year in clay, county district schools, as relates here.

K

Another trajectory you see our comparison to the state. We continue to.

K

Have, as you see, the state continues to have an upward tick, but so does clay.

K

County and we continue to have separation between our numbers of what.

K

We are the rates we are graduating. Students, along with the graduation rates.

K

Related to the state of florida, as well with all 67 counties, this is really a.

K

Slide here you see that this is a number of our areas of focus that talks about.

K

Our subgroups of our students, at-risk students with disabilities, students of.

K

Multiple language and also economical disadvantaged students, you'll see that.

K

Eight of the nine areas we show we demonstrated an increase, which is a you.

K

Know, which is a tremendous work by our by our staff internally at our schools.

K

One of the the highlights I want to see that we are graduating the we had.

K

Greatest gains or the seat, we had eight percentage points increase with students.

K

With disabilities and we moved from 74 percent to 82 percent we're showing that.

K

Our kids are really working hard to differentiate instruction to make sure that we have quality. You know services to every kid within within this.

K

Organization, in addition, we also see that we had students who are two or more.

K

Two or three has two or three races that we are moving them up as well, with a.

K

Four point: six increase with a ninety four point: five percent of those.

K

Students are graduating with in clay county. Here's a you know, another subset.

K

Of students and we look at at-risk disabilities ela just a graphic to see.

K

That we move three out of four these areas. We still have work to do with our.

K

English language, our of english, english language, learners, subcategory. We moved.

K

It in the year before, but this year we have to look at our cohort and figure.

K

Out what additional supports that we can provide to help.

K

So that's an area of opportunity, but overall, if you see in the last since.

K

2011, you see the comparison to like size counties in the in since 2011 we've had.

K

A 16.5 area of increase and we're trying to close the gap between us and you know.

K

Other counties that are like, like size counties such as st. lucie in alachua in.

K

Escambia, who have you know, we ranked four out of those eight areas, those.

K

Eight counties, but we'll continue to work hard to make sure that we are striving to be the have the greatest growth and to be the number one county.

K

In the state related to that, if you look at our overall schools, you'ii see that.

K

Every one of our schools made significant growth. We had one school.

K

There from an island that that had a decline. But but when you have to look at.

K

The actual graduation rate they had 97 percent of their students graduating.

K

Which is significant in that as a you know, that is hats off. They still.

K

Continue to be the school that has the greatest amount of students that were.

K

Graduating in a large population, so hats off to them. But overall you see the.

K

Tremendous growth that we have it at every one of our high schools in the hard work there's being demonstrated by our teachers and our leaders as well and.

K

Then next steps, what do we need to do? We need to continue to make sure we will.

K

Find the tracking tool to make sure that students look at their academic history.

K

To make sure that they are moving in the right direction, with a cohort of their learners, we will continue to have monthly conferences with terry connor.

K

With leaders school based leaders to problem-solve about how do we increase.

K

Graduation rates and make certain students are ready for college readiness.

K

In addition, we'll make sure we continue to utilize our a ct and sat boot camps.

K

We infused last year, which shows that this resource has been tremendous for.

K

Our students to hit good coordinates scores, so they are prepared to to.

K

Graduate, but also be able to compete not only locally but nationally as well. In.

K

Addition there is, you know we will continue to we areas of opportunity for.

K

Us and also next steps we just launched elevation academy today at bannerman.

K

Learning center, which took place of catapult, we're doing it internally and.

K

We have the staff and the ability and skill set now to do it. We had 60 seats.

K

That were available and we had 40 students that were in place today at.

K

This school for to identify kids, who are at risk to help them graduate on time in.

K

Addition we will continue to use khan academy as a learning, blended learning.

K

Resource for our students that also has sat preparation, part and then we'll look.

K

At having sat in our school within the school day, which is bringing.

K

It back to clay county so that we can maximize students. We can get them while.

K

They're there you know, as you know, the sat and as a cts, usually on the weekend.

K

But if we can bring it to our schools and provide additional timing for our.

K

Kids, we get quick, wins and students have extended time when they take sat during.

K

The day as well so we'll continue to offer that to our seniors and I'll talk.

K

Mr. connor ender to figure out if we can grow that to our juniors as well.

K

Post-Secondary another highlight that we see that we continue to celebrate in.

K

Clay county is that we we see that students are are obtaining the concordat.

K

Score for sat and a ct and reading and mathematics and we see significant.

K

Growth in the area of reading for students being post-secondary ready from.

K

76 last year to 82 and with a 6% increase and also in the area of.

K

Mathematics from a 57 to a 67 with 10% increase, so we have greater preparation.

K

For our students, as a transition outside of our doors and go and compete for.

K

Post-Secondary or the military or through the collegiate aspect or the.

K

Workforce, this is just another graphic that shows an upper trend and will.

K

Continue to to measure that to make sure we're doing have the great supports for.

K

Our students, another area we want to talk about this evening- it's controlled.

K

Open enrollment, this is the season, for you know school choice. As you know, the.

K

School choice week will start on january the 21st, so we thought it was just.

K

Appropriate to make certain that we have offer controlled, open enrollment in clay.

K

County and in the same week we will launch our initiative controlled, open.

K

Enrollment is really requires the requirement by the state, with statue of.

K

You know one zero, zero, two point: three one which really allows us to have.

K

Greater access to to students to other schools within within our community, the.

K

We've adopted 85% as a collective to identify that as a threshold, meaning we.

Have a 15%, you know area of growth within our schools, but any school. That's.

Under the eighty-five percent, threshold becomes open for open enrollment, not.

Only for kids within the county, but for circuitry students who are in the surrounding counties as well and overall just this is this initiative is really.

Pushed to make certain we gives to parents more opportunity, educational.

Offerings for their students and again we go back to the window from jane.

Xxi, it will launch to february 22nd and you can go on our website at 1:00 clay.

About the applicational process for schools that are opening this this year,.

We see that we have holistically a little bit over 1200 seats available.

Within our school district, we see that we have, you know around two hundred and.

Forty two seats of the elementary model, 200 seats that will be in the at the.

Junior high school and then we see that we have around 800 plus seats that are.

Be open at our high school level as well, so you know if you're interested in.

Attending a school- that's on this list that you there's an application process.

That the parents and students may complete and in that process you know.

K

We'll be able to look and apply and see if there's available seating in these.

Schools, for example, I'll leave this this initiative. I mean this slide up because.

It argyle elementary school, we have 20 seats available, but if we through the.

Application process, if we have students the 18 students apply. That means that 18.

Will be granted access to that school if we have 25 students that apply for.

Argyle elementary school, then we'll have to transition to a lottery process.

Within within the school district and identify students to identify those who.

K

Are awarded the the seats for the school in order to move forward.

First, a statue there's an order, ranking order for the lottery process that we.

Look at then, the priority is in this exact order. Any military families who.

Are have military orders that are required to move they get first priority.

And then we'll go to individuals that have been relocated from foster care or.

Relocated due to court order and then a final mechanism, we look at for the.

Lottery process does identify students who are residing within our school district to provide them the opportunity if their seats are available with it.

Within the organization after those sweet tears, so you know if we look at.

The timeline right now, the the the timeline is january 21st, will launch the.

Window for for, for this initiative a controlled, open enrollment, it will end.

On february, the 22nd notifications for those who have been accepted will start.

After march 22nd, that gives us an opportunity to look at finding lottery.

Processes have to be in put in place by staff and then, as you see, we have a.

Special transfer option window that will come on with it within the organization and also potentially reassignments as well for.

Any timeline so for those of you all who who are watching within the county, who.

Disrespectful, you know, has put together a toy drive and remembrance of her son.

And the show that she truly cares about clay county community and really gives.

The remembrance of this individual, who was a great person and in a you know, I.

Might believe an orange park alumni as well sue. She goes over and beyond for.

This community and she put together, she's put together this toy drive. This.

Is impacting so many of our students so many of our families and definitely and.

That is not a part of her role and responsibility, even though she really helps at-risk students every day within our community in the northeast florida.

But she really we she put this event together on december, the 15th it was.

Held at orange park elementary school and has such great response with over.

270, students and kids and families were impacted by what she has done in this.
