and
I
really
appreciate
everyone
hanging
around
into
the
end
of
the
day
to
hear
these
keynote
presentations.
It's
excellent
to
see
the
interest
here
in
China
today,
I
want
to
talk
a
little
bit
about
the
virtuous
cycle
of
open
source
that
we
have
found
that
comes
about
through
organizations
working
out
in
open
governance,
creating
software
that
we
can
all
take
advantage
of
and
use
and
how
that's
affected
the
world
and-
and
you
know
where
we
see
things
going
forward.
So
let
me
get
started
in
this.
A
I've
been
with
IBM
for
a
very
long
time
and
over
the
last
20
years,
I've
been
involved
in
open
source
and
and
as
I
sat
and
thought
about
what
was
happening
in
open
source,
I
sort
of
pinned
things
down
to
a
very
pivotal
moment
in
the
history
of
open
source
with
Linux
Linux
really
was
sort
of
a
lynchpin.
Turning
point
for
really
being
able
to
see
large
numbers
of
developers
come
together
around
the
project
to
do
good
for
the
world,
everybody
can
sort
of
remember
Peace,
Love
and
Linux
right.
A
That
was
a
slogan
that
was
out
at
that
time.
Creating
free
software
to
go
and
drive
the
world,
it
was
a
great
thing:
developers
were
energized
by
that
they
could
come
together.
They
could
do
something
as
a
community
and
as
a
result
of
that,
really
really
solve
for
the
world
and-
and
we
see
the
end
result
of
that
where
Linux
is
everywhere
now
it
runs
our
world.
It
provides
the
operating
system
not
only
for
servers,
but
for
the
devices
that
we
have
virtually
everything
is
is
tied
to
Linux
these
days.
A
It's
an
incredible
story
so,
but
but
that
story
was
sort
of
galvanized
when
IBM
in
particular,
made
a
billion
dollar
pledge
to
develop
Linux
right.
Suddenly
here
was
a
large
company
who
was
willing
to
put
a
bet
on
an
open
technology
to
bring
in
to
enterprises
who
were
traditionally
very
skeptical
of
open-source
software
and
and
it
made
companies
really
stand
up
and
take
notice.
A
Not
only
that,
but
we
made
a
pledge
to
not
assert
our
patents
against
the
the
kernel
of
the
Linux
kernel
and,
and
that
was
a
big
deal
and
we
actually
went
on
to
found
the
open
invention.
Network,
oh
I
am
that
that
went
and
got
others
to
pledge
their
patents,
such
that
we
protected
Linux
and
could
see
it
grow
and
move
into
the
future.
Well,
that
project
really
kicked
things
off.
Then
we
saw
a
patchy
form
and
the
HTTP
server
become
the
standard
right.
A
Suddenly
code
was
the
de
facto
standard
that
was
enabling
scale
to
happen
and
and
projects
to
come
to
life,
and-
and
it
was
a
wonderful
thing
to
go
and
see
Eclipse
another
big
milestone
along
this
path.
The
Eclipse
project
was
seeded,
with
30
million
dollars
of
software
from
us
and
and
became
a
staple
out
there
and
in
the
Java
community,
in
the
world
and
on
and
on
and
on.
A
We're
a
group
of
companies
came
together
and
very
quickly
formed
a
project
out
into
the
open
and
under
open
governance,
and
we
saw
an
ecosystem
very
much
spring
up
around
that
and
and
great
things
happen
in
adoption
of
that
around
the
world
and
in
that
continued
into
Cloud
Foundry.
We
saw
nodejs
come
about
of
course,
kubernetes
projects
like
hyper
ledger,
which
are
you
know,
changing
the
way
we
do
the
world
through
blockchain,
see
the
world
through
blockchain
and,
of
course,
cloud
native
technologies.
A
You
know,
just
a
few
years
ago
the
cloud
native
computing
foundation
came
about
and
and
I'm
also
I'll.
You
know
be
transparent,
I'm,
the
the
chairman
of
the
governing
board
for
the
cloud
native
computing
foundation,
and
it
came
about
because
we
all,
as
a
group
of
companies,
felt
that
we
could
build
the
infrastructure,
create
a
new
world
around
cloud
native
and
and
bring
together
technologies
that
everyone
could
use
and
depend
on
and
do
it
together
and
not
compete
on
building
the
plumbing.
A
Because
now
the
plumbing
was
ubiquitous,
we
all
could
go
and
share
in
the
development
of
that,
and
and
so
we
started
out
with
a
couple
of
projects-
kubernetes
and
Prometheus
and
and
maybe
40
or
so
companies.
Today
we
sit
here
with
333
companies
who
have
come
together
and
but
some
18
projects
couple
have
graduated
and
the
rest
in
incubation.

We
partnered
up
with
the
UN,
the
Red,
Cross
and
others
and
I
came
out
here
about
four
months
ago
with
with
a
group
of
folks,
and
we
did
lots
of
talks
around
how
to
get
involved
in
the
call
for
code
and
and
we
wanted
to
reach
out
to
the
22
million
developers
of
the
world.
A
hundred
thousand
developers
responded
it's
across
156
countries.
We
had
352
events
that
went
and
ran
groups
to
go
and
code
around
this
2,500
submissions.
A
One
winner
got
a
$200,000
prize,
and
that
was
a
mesh
network
which
was
there
to
help
first
responders.
So
what
did
IBM
do
we're
gonna
go
help
now
take
that
project
to
production,
but
I
know
you
should
be
really
proud,
because
China
answered
the
call
for
code
as
well.
211
partner
sprung
up
to
help,
go
and
promote
this.
One
team
actually
became
one
of
the
top
five
finalists,
and
this
was
done
by
the
green
coda
project
from
the
Agricultural
Bank
of
China
and
what
they
did
is
they
created.
A
A
project
was
a
very
complex
piece
of
software.
They
had
blockchain
and
cloud
technologies
and
they
used
the
cloud
along
with
databases
and
other
things,
to
build
a
complex
app
that
when
people
lost
everything
as
part
of
a
disaster,
they
could
go
up
to
a
ATM
through
facial
recognition,
get
money
and,
and
that
was
all
secured
transactions
over
blockchain.
A
It
was
really
a
nice
thing
to
go
and
see
now
they
didn't
win,
but
they
came
up
in
the
top
five
and
their
project
will
be
highlighted
on
the
Linux
Foundation
pages
and
become
an
open-source
project
for
the
Linux
Foundation.
So
what
enabled
that
well
IDM
loves
kubernetes
our
whole
infrastructure
that
we
allowed
people
to
go
and
build
those
applications
on
is
up
and
available
on
our
cloud
and
and
we've
moved
our
Watson
services
and
other
services
all
onto
that
infrastructure.

So
when
people
think
about
the
IBM
cloud,
they
should
be
thinking
about
kubernetes
in
our
container
service
and
gradually
everything
that
we're
doing
that's
beyond
base
will
move
over
onto
it.
So
so
those
dream
coder
folks,
were
able
to
take
advantage
of
this
and
build
it
out.
So
if
we
could
just
quickly
queue
the
demo,
this
is
just
a
short
video
of
what
they
were
able
to
take
advantage
of
basically
logging
in
getting
into
the
dashboard
finding
the
features
that
they
wanted
to
do.

They
wanted
to
get
a
kubernetes
service
up
and
going
they
created
a
new
cluster.
It's
a
highly
available
cluster
multi
zone
cluster
that
allows
them
to
you,
know,
pick
their
locations
and
deploy.
If
you
need
to
have
GPU
capabilities,
which
they
did
in
this
case,
they're
able
to
go
pick
servers
with
GPU
capabilities.
They
can
deploy
those
containers
down
on
to
bare
metal
servers
to
get
the
absolute
most
performance.

Do
we
hang
there?
We
go!
Oh
so
now,
let's,
if
you
look
at
it,
they
were
then
able
to
go
into
our
catalog
and
it's
a
nicely
organized
catalog
right
after
this
and
and
go
and
pick
the
services
that
they
wanted
to
use
to
go
and
do
this,
such
as
a
database
right
all
done
through
helm,
charts
all
deployed
out,
and
there
was
this
core
of
services
that
they
had
access
to.
A
That
became
the
basic
way
that
they
were
able
to
build
their
application,
get
going
all
done
in
a
very,
very
short
period
of
time,
four
months,
so
it
it's
a
wonderful
thing
to
go
and
see.
We've
now
created
a
way
that
developers
can
go
from
being.
You
know,
mostly
business
developers
who
are
working
in
companies
out
working
in
open-source,
come
back
around
to
do
good
things
for
the
community.
The
call
for
code
is
going
to
go
on
for
five
years,
and
this
is
just
the
first
year
of
the
cycle.
