As Kubernetes adoption proliferates across different continents, we want to present the state of enterprises’ and startups’ adoption of Kubernetes in African countries. We will highlight the unique set of challenges that they face during migration to Kubernetes. These enterprises are looking for ways to improve and optimize infrastructure, and adopt cloud-native technologies. Startups want to build innovations on cloud-native architecture for rapid prototyping of their products, quick scalability as their businesses grow, and cost-saving on infrastructure. In this talk, we will share the factors enabling and hindering the adoption of Kubernetes, community presence and its growth in Africa. We will share how people are contributing to Kubernetes and highlight some of the challenges they face in their journey.

populated
country

world

the

the

of

technology,

the
process,

and
kubernetes
has
proven
itself
to

leader

enterprises
and
startups

adopt

now.

question
is
that
what
are
some
of
the
benefits
that

some
of
the
reason
why
they
are
looking
into
adopting
kubernetes?

companies,

finance
company
things
like
security
is

dear
to
the

because
it's

core

their

they
can
fix

fixes
is
what

going

be

favorite

saw
was
that,
as
enterprises
and
startups
started
approaching
kubernetes,
they
started
asking
the
questions
of

deploy
communities

kubernetes
be
deployed

cloud
environment
or
should
be.

conferences
and

the
lessons
learned

their

environment

case
studies
with
your
fellow
colleagues
as
significantly
impacted
community
groups
and

the
cncf
diversity.
Scholarships
has
also
provided
huge
opportunities
to
folks
in
africa,
along
with
some
of
the
other
cncf
scholarships.

scholarships
to
take
certifications
like
the
certified
kubernetes
administrator,
which
also
helps
individuals
who
are
trying
to
show
their
proficiency
with
kubernetes,
which
currently
is
a
huge
deal
because
there
are
limited
limited
people
were
able
to
show
their
expertise
or
communities
in
the
african
landscape.
And
now
this
poses
a
lot
of
opportunity
for
a
lot
of
people,
because
to
take
the
certification
for
kubernetes
is
quite
expensive,
at
least
from
dallas.
What
we
learned
from
from
the
people.

We
interviewed
that
that
the
certification
was
expensive
and
the
cncf
scholarship
really
significantly
helps,
and
then
local
meetups.
What
we're
seeing
is
that
now
startups
and
other
companies,
devops
devops
folks
and
even
gold
meetups-
are
being
spun
up
right.
Startups
are
coming
out
to
local
meetups,
to
talk
about
their
joining
with
cabinets
and
talk
about
how
they're
driving
things
with
kubernetes.
The
impact
governance
is
happening
within
the
environment
and
then
the
next
one
is
sausage
stories.

We're
seeing
that
enterprises
and
startups
are
writing
blogs.
There
was
a
specific
example
given
about
an
e-commerce
company
who
had
written
a
blog
about
how
they
migrated
into
using
kubernetes
without
downtime
and,
at
the
same
time,
seeing
significant
improvements
and
experience
from
their
customers.

effort
has
led
to
some
group,
but
when
I
thought
we
spoke
to
a
couple
of
people
in
the
community,
they
asked
something
like
challenges

paying
some
limiting
factors

around
the
community

is
the
limited
expertise.

expertise
goes
beyond
reading
documentation.
It
requires
like
hands-on.
You
know,
operation
right.

Many
of
us
can
agree
that
you
know
we
get
most
of
our
experience
from
doing
right
now,
there's
only
a
few
of
those
people
that
have
truly
truly
you
know
it's
been
tested,
and
you
know
trusted
in
production
right
because
of
the
limited
expertise
right.

lot
of
companies
are
having
challenge
right,
getting
the
right
people
for
the
job
right
now,
because
of
that,
those
are
some
of
the
things
that
companies
are
factoring
into
their
communities
journey
right
and
also.

second
point
that
can
be
deduced
from
the
expertise
is
that
many
of
them
brought
up
the
the
excuse
me
that
the
the
question
about
mentorship
right
mentorship
is
very
critical
in
in
from
people
that
we've
spoken
to.
They
wanted
someone
that
done
this
improvement,
so
something
they
can
talk
to
someone
outside.
You
know
google
stack
overflow,
guitar
issue
they
can
address.
You
know
talk
about
production
challenges
too,
but
because
of
the
limited
number
of
expats
around
right,
it
has
really
constrained
how
well
the
knowledge
of
the
community
grows.
Right
now,.

now
we
have
people
who
are
quite
passionate
about
cncf
products.
Cncf,
you
know
tools,
kubernetes
cloud
cloud
native
landscape
right
now,
those
that
they
are
willing
to
go
beyond
to
actually
tell
people
about
the
benefit
of
migrating
into
cloud
native
architecture,
what
they
are
doing
most
of
these
most
of
these
advertisements.

Like
you
know,
most
of
these
events
have
been
have
been
organized
from
out
of
pocket
because
of
that
it
limits
the
amount
of
things
that
they
can
provide.
It
limits
the
amount
of
resource
they
can
provide.
You
know
eliminate
how
far
how
far
they
can
reach
out.
You
know
on
those
challenges,
so
those
are
three
main
things
that
we
notice
in
the
community.
The
limit,
limited
expertise
there
was
lack
of
you,
know,
mentorship
and
also
the
limited
funding
to
always
events
that
boost
the
community
growth.

Now,
I
guess
you
know,
the
follow-up
thing
is:
how
can
cncf
now
cncf
has
been
very
instrumental
in
the
growth
of
the
community?
We
can
all
agree
on
that.
They
have
provided
results
remarkably
right,
cnc,
linux
foundation.
You
have
provided
resource
remote,
remarkable
reasons,
but
we
noticed
that
a
couple
of
areas
are
still
lacking.
For
example,
let's
start
with
the
ambassadors,
ambassadors
are,
like
you
know,
repositories
of
knowledge,
right
experience
and
also
advocacy.

By
bringing
more
ambassadors
into
the
african
cloud
native
landscape,
it's
going
to
help
bring.
You
know,
experienced
folks
who
are
backed
by
good
resource,
to
talk
about
the
benefits
of
kubernetes
to
companies
and
also
not
just
a
company
like
michael
speaker
mentioned
engineers
have
a
lot
of
battles
to
fight.
They
have
to
lend
the
technology
know
the
benefit
and
also
convince
the
executive
on
the
importance
of
the
co
of
the
tattoo
of
the
cloud
native
tool,
but
if
cncf
ambassadors
rights
also
come
on
ground
also
provide
knowledge.

outside
guidance,
to
react
to
this
executive.
It
helps
improves
the
rate
of
adoption
in
the
community.
Now
the
next
point,
the
sponsorship
of
local
community,
like
I
mentioned
before
many
of
those
events
that
we
see
organized,
are
usually
organized
out
of

because
of
the
constraints
of
resource.

of
these
organizers
cannot
do
as
much
as
they
can
right

as

they
should
or
as
much
as
the
community
nate.
But
with
this
with
more
sponsorship
from
cncf
right,
we
are
going
to
see
a
rapid
growth
of
you

knowledge
like
there's
going
to
be
more
despairs
of
knowledge
around
the
community,
the
road
map,
inclusion,
a
lot
of
companies
are
moving
into
africa
right
and
one
thing
that
we
can
all
agree
is
that
different
environments,
sometimes
post
different
tech
up
constraint
or
take
you
know,
challenge
because
of
this.

Sometimes,
companies
in
africa
have
a
unique
set
of
challenge
that
might
not
be
included
in
kubernetes
roadmap
or
not
just
kubernetes,
some
of
this
open
source
roadmap
right
now.
If
we
can
think
about
this,
this
you
know
billion
set
of
users.
If
we
can
think
about
them
and
they
are
different
category
of
meat
and
include
it
in
roadmap.
It
can
actually
help
a
lot
of
companies
to
actually
adopt
kubernetes
faster
right.
So
those
roadmap
inclusion,
like
we
all
know,
like
all
the
inclusion,
helps
foster
rapid
adoption
of
that
technology
right
number
one,
one
adapting
scholarship.

engineers
right,
they
can
read
the
documentation
and
understand
what
is
going
on,
but
business
executive
right
meeting,
other
business
executives,
the
thought
leaders
meeting
other
thoughts
leader
right
allows
for
communication,
allow
for
discussion

the
benefits
of
communities
when
this
executive,
when
these
thoughts
leaders
when
these
engineers
meet
other
like
minds,
it
allows
for
growth
and
expansion
just
beyond
the
technical
community,
even
into
different
seasons

So
we
believe
these
are
some
of
the
ways
that
cncf
can
help.

things

we
wanted
to
cover
was:
how
can
you
help-
and
you
know
the
first
one
of
the
first
ways
is
collaborating
with
folks
in
africa,
collaborating
with
folks
in
the
landscape.

reaching
out

folks

meetups
setting
up
virtual
virtual
meetups.
You
know
rich
helping
out
folks
that
are
reaching
out
in
the
kids
community.

advocacy

volunteering
to
speak
at
events
in
africa,
so
one
of
the
things
that
we
saw
was
a
huge
need
for
thought,
advocacy

someone
who
could
help
in

driving
those

the
leaders
into
into
those
who
are
employing
these
tools,
those
who
are
considering
employing
kubernetes
within
the
environment
and
also
the
tools
that
are
going
to
even
run
on
top
of
kubernetes.
