Lightning Talk: What I’ve Learned by Running Local CNCF Chapter Cloud-native Islamabad - Saim Safdar, Neomeric Digitals

I struggled a lot when I started learning about cloud-native technologies because not many people around me were also talking about k8s or other cloud-native things. I always felt shy asking people for help when I got stuck with cloud-native tooling. However, I’ve found that many people are experiencing the same even though opensource is all about engaging with others, helping others and collaborative knowledge, and collaborative power of mind and energy. I want to share how I overcome this challenge of talking about cloud-native language in public while building out my local community. Attendees will walk away from this talk having learned the easy way of learning Kubernetes, how to build out local their own CNCF chapters, how this will help overcome the shyness of asking people for help in public, how to create empathy within the community, how to talk about open-source publicly, and how to start contributing to a worldwide community.

Islamabad community, so here's a pretty logo where you see them, it's the collaborative salamat, local and what is crowded islam. It's a cncf meter group dedicated to building a strong, open, diverse developer community, around cloud native technologies and platform in islamabad. I've conducted 20 plus meter and I've gained one num. I have gained very good good following in the socials, so we have conducted 25 plus webinars on the various technologies, around cubecast podman, keita, cubester, b, cluster linker d, waypoint guyverno and supply chain security.

So that is what I have gained as of now of running the two years of community improvisation, but when it started way back in march of 2020 during the government time, I'm thinking about very hard. Do I waste my time. What do I divert myself from the key goals? My focus should be on tap, not on people. I'm talking to people virtually I'm, not a good at it too much work. I might lose my friends, so I the things motivated me because I want to learn new technologies every day.

I want to share the knowledge what I've learned. I want to collaborate with other tech. Folks, I want to be in the cnc community and I want to build a community, but the hurdle for me that go with the pandemic changes everything and she knows empty office, empty conferences. I can't arrange a conference in person because of that pandemic now what the idea? What should we do? We can connect virtually, but I need something I can manage. Some of the things like I need to. I need a website. I need a speakers.

I need a rejection registration process. I need own blank platforms, don't g meat. I need a live stream platform, connect globally advertisement, banners for my webinar, great social media channels, some of the things I can easily manage. I can create the social channels I can get the advertisement. I can be a good graphic designer. I can use the free services available for me at that time. Zoom achievement, but I can't do the expensive thought I need a website.

I need to have some money for me to establish those things I need to have a registration process. I need to have a live stream platform that are feedback charges, but thanks to the cncf they provided me, wonderful, community.cncf, where I can do anything, I can do a live stream. I can do a registration process, I can call.

I can send them notification when the webinar is happening, but the last piece of the puzzle where I find the speaker, but thanks to the cncf community, we have wonderful speakers in the cncf and every time I talk to social about, I want to conduct a webinar. They are really easy, very easy approachable for me and thank you very much for the last two years you come to my webinar and now I'm able to conduct 25 plus meetup and all because of you, you are truly awesome.

So cncf speakers, you are have most respect and more love for everyone and dot community.cncf.I, slash islamabad. Thanks to the cncf. Can I can connect virtually and arrange the web accounts, so that is everything established in march cnc provided all the mechanism for us. What I want to learn everything is established. I want to learn the languages cncf community talking about. I want to have new friends, I want to talk in public. I want to learn how other people talk in public. I want to learn how other people learn kubernetes every day.

I want to learn how other people build their products on top of kubernetes. I want to learn the success stories. I want to build my community where I can share my success and fail your stories. I want my community to get closer to the cnc app. I want to share my knowledge. I want to let other people share their knowledge, so these are the core codes that I want to learn from by running to cncf community.

But after running the two years of consistently arranging the meetups, I have my learning become my new passion and I've strengthened my cloud-native vocabulary. I know what is observability. I know what is gay native. I know what is serverless meaning. I know what is the supply chain security? I know what is the kit offs, so I've also gained local love and global friends. I have removed fear and gained love while talking in public.

I have found the knowledge how people talk in public, how I have found the knowledge, how other people learn kubernetes every day I have found the knowledge how other people build their product on top of kubernetes. I have find success stories. I have built a community where I can share my success and feel your story. I'm able to bring my community closer to the cncf. I have built my community, so I can share my knowledge and let other people share their knowledge in the cnp in our cloud native islamabad community.
