Keynote: Accelerating Transformation to Cloud Native on Converged ICT Infrastructure - Ying Xiong, Chief Architect of Cloud Platform, Huawei Technologies

While cloud native technologies offer tremendous benefits to ICT (Information and Communication Technology) applications and/or services, the journey to the cloud native from traditional infrastructure is often a painful process, facing many challenges, from traditional storage, networking, to development, operation process, and to application runtime management. This talk briefs a set of currently on-going cloud native technologies, such as Open SDS, DevOps pipeline, hybrid networking and cloud native orchestration, and their potentials to help enterprise to accelerate the transformation to cloud native.

About Dr. Ying Xiong
Dr. Ying Xiong is Chief Architect of Cloud Platform at Huawei Technologies. His current responsibilities include the architecture vision, strategy and design of cloud platform as-a-service (PaaS). Ying brings 20+ years of experience in architecture and design of cloud, ecommerce and enterprise IT systems. Prior to Huawei, Ying worked about 8 years at Microsoft as principal architect and development manager in Azure, and SQL Azure cloud platforms. He also spent over 10 years at AT&T as principal enterprise technical architect and development manager. He has a Ph.D. and B.S degree in Computer Science.

Good afternoon, everyone, my name, is usual and chief architect of cloud platform at huawei. It's great to be here in just a conference, though, is a short two days conference, but I really enjoy a lot of good things happening around the iCloud, lative I hope you enjoy the conference too. I hope you got what you need for this conference.

We all know that the cloud Lettieri is the future for modern application, development and management. You know Pius definition, pretty big cloud. He bringing many benefits to your ganization to your enterprise, such as in STD infrastructure, and and demand skill abilities for tolerance, portable container Bates, the applications or macro surfaces. Why are those are good? The actual transformation of your enterprise talkative is really nada. It's not easy, and some time is a painful process.

We have lots of IT type of applications such as the video stream apps web apps, the iot platforms, big data platforms, but we also have CT type of applications, such as the SDN controllers, which aligns network a function or network services, there's a two. Traditionally they are very different. They are different in the supporting infrastructures. They are differently in the programming language. The programming model and even the development process are different. The application architecture are different. Now, with the cloud computing, we found this 2-star become words.

They're both moving to the cloud lative, which is good, so we really believe this can work. So we have a big commitment to the cloud native wake strategy. We call all cloud strategy so with this all cloud strategy, we kind of hoping that we have a unified, the cloud native platform that can help us to accelerate it again. The transformations cloud lady in the ICT converts the environment, but we know we have many challenges.

Now, moving that to cloud lative, it's a challenge: it's not just the application, redesign or application. Now, if we can break it down into multiple microservices architecture, we want to make sure that we support staple macro services. Another very common challenge is the storage. We have many products that need to support heterogeneous storage server. We are working with other companies, the final good ways, a better way to solve the problem in the cloud native environment.

So to cook with the search energies, we have about a dozen projects cloud. The cloud late here already did and I wanting to meet you three other two projects today, I one of the project is the container networking and this project. We need focus on three things: one is large-scale network performance, so we want to make sure in the cluster of five thousand notes that running hundred thousand containers. We want to make sure that now performances my problems. Secondly, we want to target the Warner, monitor them, navigate away or put it out of service.

So we can see that network bandwidth, consumptions the network latency, even the package drop rate for a specific running contender and that's the project that is aiming for container networking. The third is weak, elaborate network of provisioning, so we want to use in the same platform cloud lady platform that can provision in the network in the mixed environment, such as container the container container to me or container to your physical machines, or we will of its conversions and that's a contender networking project. The other project is open, hds, software-defined storage.

This project was announced yesterday in the press release for linux foundation's. We are working with company nega for jisu attached and other companies to create an open, SDS controller to manage the heterogeneity storage servers that cross the cloud the including the crew, benetti's, OpenStack and other clouds. Now one of the object or cold goal of this project is to facility the collaboration among the storage provider. Now we are hoping the work and create a standard API from this collaboration.

The last project I want to mention today is the container art project. Some of you already may see in the early stage in the mr. mama college. They are actually talk about the container ops. This is a one of my favorite project is basically the death of pipeline optimized for container is framework for you to define ciosed workflows for your application. You can define different workflows for different application.
