Using Kubo to Manage your Kubernetes Clusters [I] - Oleksandr Slynko & Brendan Nolan, Pivotal
Kubo is an OSS project developed jointly by Pivotal and Google. It provides an uniform way to instantiate, deploy, and manage highly available vanilla Kubernetes clusters using BOSH - on GCE, vSphere, AWS, Openstack and Azure.
Using BOSH and Kubo to manage Kubernetes gives self healing, easily upgradeable clusters with managed secrets rotation. Cluster creation is simplified to the point where clusters can be created and destroyed for use in development or sandbox environments.
In this presentation, Brendan and Oleksandr will demonstrate deployment across multiple IAASes, cluster healing, cluster upgrade and cluster creation.

container
runtime

an
open-source
software
project
which
is
part
of
Cloud
Foundry
analyze,

deployment
of
vanilla,
kubernetes
clusters
using
bash.

be
familiar
with
the
cloud:
foundry
application,
runtime
and
and
I
think
initially,
when,

pivotal
and
wooden
cloud
foundry
people
started
to
talk
about
supporting
containers,
there
was
a
decision.

the

legacy
applications
that
people
don't
want
to
port
to
new
code,
and
then
you

third-party
applications
that
are
delivered
by
containers
and
you
want
to
be
able
to
run
them
within
your
environment.

applications

very
complex
networking
or
persistence
requirements
and
they
don't
fit
within
the
highly
opinionated
framework
of
the
application
run
time
like
kubernetes.
So
for
the
types
of
workloads
that
we're
looking
at
kubernetes
is

obvious
choice.
It's
the
de-facto
container
orchestration
engine
and
then
wipe

declared
foundries.

we
have
customers
that
love
the
cloud.
Foundry
operator
experience
they're
very
happy
with
how
they
can
manage
their
elastic
one-time
application,
runtime
instances
within
cloud
foundry
and
they
want
the
same
experience
operating
cloud
foundry
up

a
container
runtime
for
kubernetes.

we're
trying
to
solve,
with
CFC
or
so
I
think
we've
all
seen
that
the
installation
of
kubernetes
become
pretty
straightforward.
We
saw
Kelsi
the
other
day,
create
a
cluster
from
this
phone,
but
day
two
is
not
so
easy,
particularly
if
you're
managing
your
own
kubernetes
clusters
that
how
do
you
upgrade
those
clusters?
How'd
you
deal
with
CVS
on
the
underlying
operating
system
and
what
kubernetes
keeps
your
applications
up
and
running
what
keeps
kubernetes
running?

I

we
are
powered
by
Bosh.
So
Bosh
is
a
cloud
foundry
project,
it's
quite
a
mature
project.
I
think
it's
been
around
for
five
years.
It's
based
on
the
Google
Borg
idea
of
something
that
manages
infrastructure.
So
we
got
korg
kubernetes
together.
They
want
to
be
mates
and
that's
where
we
get
the
Clara
foundry
container
run
time.

operation
teams
find
they're
incredibly
efficient
when
they're,
using
Bosch,
so
for
CFC
or
CFC,
or
is
actually
just
a
Bosch
release
of
kubernetes.
So
it's
made
up
of
three
particular
component
parts
and
SCD
release

standard
docker
release,
which
is
already
part
of
cloud
foundry
and
open
source,

kubernetes

scoobo
release
and
each
release

for
a
specific
version
of
kubernetes,

Google
came

board
was
that
they
wanted
something

people
could

containers

a
platform

similar

the
VMS
and

a

defined
release.
