Multi-Cloud Messaging with Functions: Gcp Pub/Sub to & from AWS SNS - Sam Stoelinga, GoogleSDCC

Multi-cloud is not going anywhere but how do we integrate the different clouds together? In this session Sam will be demoing and sharing how functions can be used to solve the challenge of different messaging services in different cloud providers. The focus will be on creating a 2-way bridge between GCP Pub/Sub and AWS SNS but the pattern is the same for additional messaging services. Hello, everyone, I'm Sam, swinger I'm, a customer engineer at Google, so I help customers with adopting Google cloud and I specifically focus on kubernetes and really technologies. So today, I will be talking about a use case from a customer that is using functions and lambda to integrate pops up to get every fascin s. So what we get is a two-way bridge, so any messes Paris pops up also gets just less and vice versa as well. It's a really simplistic use case. I will be at lightning speed to go through this, the sources available on github.

So why would you want to do this? I mean it's always the first question to ask: you might have started with a specific cloud provider. You might have started with Google, Cloud or AWS, and you started using pops up. Have pops up integrates with lots of native services in Google cloud and makes it really easy to use these herbs, for example, use cloud run. You can use pops up as a trigger to run a cloud function.

You can configure Google Cloud Storage to send events to pops up, but you cannot send it to send events to as les, but maybe you want to catch this event in your AWS cloud as well. So it's really use case behind it. It comes from a actual customer that I work with, and what could you show how how it is done from wenyi architecture, side I, don't think it shouldn't because they're in architecture, mr. parade, but you have an incoming message to pops up it triggers a cloud function that cloud function just duplicates the mesh.

That's senses to SNS, so an SNS application application that subscribe to SNS can also receive it, and then the other direction is the same. You get a message incoming to SMS a lambda function gets triggered and that that function just duplicates exactly the same SS to pops up.

You guys want to see it in action, yeah ready for that all right. So what we're gonna do is really exciting. I have a front-end that wash that is subscribed to both pops up and SNS I'm, going to upload a dark emerald to Google Cloud storage. I have Google Cloud storage configured to send messages to pops up like if you upload a file it'll trigger message that goes to a pub sub topic, then the front-end will get this message.

We will parse the URL and it will display the image, that's being uploaded to Google Cloud storage and face first I'm. Gonna, do the same thing: Fredo, yes, and we can also go into code.
