From YouTube: Paying it forward with mentorship
Description
While we were at the Caribbean Developers Conference, we caught up with Noe Branagan to discuss the work he does with teaching and mentoring students in robotics
[00:41] - Teaching kids about robotics

A
Hey
everyone
we're
near
the
Caribbean
Developers
Conference
here
in
Punta
Cana:
oh
we're
just
interviewing
some
of
the
local
developers
and
community
folks
just
to
learn
about
whether
it's
actually
happening
there.
So
how
do
you
do
my
friend
how's
it
going
I'm
pretty
good.
So
why
don't
you
tell
me
your
name
and
like
what
exactly
you
do.
B
A
That
what
you
talked
about,
yeah,
disorient,
awesome
now
I,
know
we're
talking
just
a
little
while
ago,
and
you
said
that
you
do
a
lot
of
mentoring
and
you
work
with
students
and
do
robotics
and
some
of
those
kinds
of
things
like
I'd,
really
love
to
dig
into
that
and
figure
out
like
how
that
even
works
and
like
like.
What
exactly
is
that
you're
doing
there?
But.
A
A
A
B
General,
like
the
thing
is
like
the
guide,
the
geese
does
I
mean:
did
you
want
to
participate
to
start
lenio
stuff?
So
you
don't
have
any
background
on
programming,
neither
robotics.
So
that's
what
we
you
know
we're
trying
to
help
show
the
guys
like
they
are
actually
have
very
passionate
about
it,
so
sure
sure
yeah.
The
challenge
is
very
slightly
bit
tough.
But
yes,
pretty.
B
Yeah
so
I
was
a
stood
in
electronics
in
the
university,
so
I
met
a
lot
of
people
that
doing
robotics
and
yeah
at
the
beginning
and
lady
to
only
doing
so
for
development
got
it.
So
people
know
me
that
I'm
used
to
play
with
hardware
stuff,
but
more
specifically
doing
you
know
logical
reasons
for
for
for
hogwash.
B
Okay,
then,
then
I
started
like
doing
some
problems
for
knitting
that
during
the
summer
for
high
schooler
just
to
get
people
in
to
play
with
software,
not
actually
showing
like
programming
itself
just
to
get
in
to
know
what
is
the
software
about
like
what
you
can
do
with
that?
Even
you
didn't
going
to
use
that
from
the
future,
but.
A
A
B
Life
easier
yeah,
so
later
one
of
the
guys
came
up
and
say:
what
do
you
think
that
we
should
start
like
teaching
kids
like
rebel
base
it
like
how
to
program
and
do
stuff,
like
maybe
just
process
a
file
itself
I,
you
know
upload
it
to
some
kind
of
web,
page
I,
said
cool,
but
then
later
one
of
the
kids
started
like
saying,
can
we
use
this
for
robotics?
Oh
and
then
you
know
I,
say
yeah.
B
We
can
start
like
a
playing
with
that,
but
I
don't
know
what
you
wanted
to
be
with
it,
so
that
a
I
started
to
to
understand
that
they
were.
There
were
a
few
programs
doing
robotics
and
actually
it's
true
in
a
very
strict
or
we're
in
the
art
really
so
I
started.
You
know
asking
people,
yeah,
yeah,
yeah,
sure
and
then
yeah
I
had
the
opportunity
to
young
want
to
join
one
of
the
things.
So
that's
that's
amazing.
Yeah.
A
B
B
Are
kids
that
just
want
to
play
with
the
tools,
although
the
one
actually
to
just
drive
the
robots,
because
we
have
no
no
fully
automated
right
and
others
just
want
to
be
in
the
team
just
that
just
getting
around
helping
other
people.
So
I
think
that
in
general,
overview
is
like
guys
want
to
I
mean
me
part
of
the
full
journey
on
comedian,
something
yeah,
something
from
nothing
too
hard.
I
got
something
that's
working
out
out
coming
out
anima,
so
you
guys,
you
know
they'd,
feel
very
proud.
A
A
What
is
the
limitation
of
this
device,
but
then
I
think
there's
also
like
a
confidence
factor
there,
because
for
particularly
for
kids
and
we
want
to
motivate
them
and
give
them
like
the
drive
and
the
ambition
to
just
learn
and
like
push
forward
in
general,
yeah
and
I.
Think
there's
something
to
be
said
about
the
accomplishment
of
I
completed,
something
yeah
or
I
made
something
that
works,
and
you
know,
and
it's
something
that
I
could
give
it
to
you.
Yeah
I
can
show
it
to
you.
You
could
touch
it
and
feel
it.
A
B
B
It's
something:
what
do
you
say
like
you
start
starting
to
teach
these
kids,
that
not
everything
is
perfect,
that
you
need
to
eat
array
and
start
to
you
know,
make
an
improvement
in
order
to
get
things
working.
Yes,
so
it's
very
very,
very
like
you
know
they
get
very,
very,
very,
very
stylish,
well
yeah.
B
Now
these
just
we
I'm
teaching
like
right
now,
just
to
get
people
understand
how
to
write
code.
I
mean
when
we're
not
using
a
specific
any
any
programming.
Language
yeah,
it's
just
creating
like
people,
understand
the
logic.
So
how
should
we
use
the
real
stuff?
So
we
start
in
front
from
there
and
depending
what
we're
doing
the
moment,
using
the
specific
programming
languages,
because
the
dependency
we're
doing
robotics
or
something.
B
A
B
Example
and
I'm
you
can
follow
me:
I,
listen
and
Twitter,
no
Branigan,
so
I'm
publishing
every
every
year,
around
March,
even
doing
something
from
the
summer
yeah,
so
I'm
trying
to
do
a
library
open.
So,
depending
you
know,
the
CSUN
is
very
able
to
find
like
a
perfect
place,
to
have
more
kids
yeah
but
ideas
to
get
P
poor
phone.
You
know
not
previous
situation.
A
B
That
doesn't
have
the
resources
to
to
do
any
kind
of
computer
stuff
yeah.
So
this
is
the
main
goal
for
me
because
I'm
coming
from
that,
but
those
dragons
so
give
this
those
guys
opportunity.
You
know
to
have
something
different
from
the
surroundings.
So
there's
a
main
goal,
so
sure
I
mean
the
main
way
to
see
what
I'm
doing
is
babies
yet
we're
just.
