Description
Fargo Public Schools - Board of Education Meeting - Live Broadcast - March 12, 2019
A
B
A
A
Motion
passes
recognition
of
audience.
We
did
not
have
anyone
sign
up
to
speak
to
us
this
evening,
so
we'll
move
on
to
number
four
staff
reports.
Faa
is
not
here
this
evening,
because
we
are
hoping
that
they're
all
enjoying
their
Spring
Break,
so
we'll
see
them
for
our
next
meeting.
Next,
we
are
going
to
have
some
information
presented
to
us
on
the
North
Dakota
insights,
dashboard,
mr.
Gandhi
and
dr.
gross
and
Missy
Eidsness.
Thank
you
sure.
D
So
I
will
hand
it
over
to
dr.
gross
misogynist
here
shortly,
but
I
think
in
one
of
our
most
recent
email
monitoring
reports.
I
had
explained
kind
of
the
difference
between
our
the
dashboard
that
you
see
on
our
strategic
plan
dashboard,
which
is
the
progress
that
we
are
making
towards
standards-based
instruction
versus
academic
dashboards,
and
we
are
very
privileged
in
the
state
of
North
Dakota.
D
They
already
have
an
academic
dashboard
that
shows
our
progress
and
that
what
we
use
to
define
our
metrics
of
how
our
students
are
performing,
and
this
is
created
for
all
the
school
districts.
So
we
wanted
to
spend
some
time
just
reviewing
that
dashboard
their
availability
and
share
that
data
with
you
today.
E
Well,
thank
you
very
much.
So
what
I'm
going
to
do
is
draw
our
attention
to
North,
Dakota
insights
and
anyone
can
get
to
this
either
by
putting
in
the
web,
address
insights
and
e
gov
or
by
going
to
any
search
in
engine
and
just
type
North.
Dakota
insights
it'll
bring
you
to
this
page
and
then
once
you
are
there,
anyone
can
go
and
find
different
information
from
school
districts,
but
also
workforce
information
and
so
on.
E
So
anyone
can
get
the
information
I'm
sharing
today
at
a
district
level
if
they
want
to
add
a
building
level
and
then
I
will
just
go
to
the
view
details
about
the
particle
Public
Schools
once
I'm
here,
the
information
will
be
very
similar
if
you're
looking
at
a
district
or
at
a
individual
school
you'll
just
get
some
basic
information
about
our
system.
This
is
updated
not
as
quite
as
frequently
as
our
dashboards,
so
the
number
of
students
may
be
off
just
slightly,
but
it's
fairly
accurate.
E
So
we
just
get
the
general
information
and
then
over.
On
the
left
hand
side.
There
are
multiple
pieces
of
information
that
I
can
look
at
the
first
one
is
just
call
under
dashboards
is
the
district
summary
and
what
this
will
do
once
I
click
on
it
is
just
give
some
of
the
general
information
about
our
district
from,
as
you
look
at
this
first
page
enrollment
to
graduation
and
then
as
I
scroll
down
further
information,
just
a
snapshot
of
our
proficiency
on
the
state
assessment.
E
E
There
are
multiple
pieces
of
information
that
are
available
here.
I
just
want
to
show
you
a
few
of
them
tonight,
but
much
of
this
is
being
updated.
Each
time
we
give
the
state
assessment,
so
this
will
continue
to
grow
as
our
database
grows.
The
first
part
is
a
link
to
our
graduation
rate
and
in
the
past
we
have
shared
the
Fargo
public
schools,
graduation
rate
compared
to
the
state
on
the
charts
that
are
listed
here.
E
We
are
in
the
brown
compared
to
the
state
at
blue,
but
what
you'll
see
is
there
are
multiple
ways
of
calculating
the
graduation
rate.
The
first
one
is
a
four-year
cohort
meaning
when
the
student
enters
ninth
grade
after
four
years,
have
they
graduated
or
not.
Then
there
is
another
graduation
rate.
That's
called
the
completer
rate.
E
E
Anyone
who
would
like
to
look
at
this
in
greater
detail
then
can
choose
a
grade
level
and
I'll
just
choose
one
eighth
grade.
So,
instead
of
looking
at
the
entire
district,
we're
now
just
looking
at
our
eighth
grade
students-
and
you
can
compare
where
we
are
in
those
four
categories
when
it
came
to
our
eighth
grade
students
on
those
same
three
assessments,
you
can
also
go
back.
E
E
One
difference
on
this
set
of
data
is:
it
does
not
have
the
science
assessment
for
a
growth
module,
because
that
assessment
is
not
given
as
frequently
as
the
English
language,
arts
and
the
math
assessment,
so
to
say
two
years
in
a
row
and
look
for
that.
Growth
is
more
difficult
with
that.
So
that
is
that
section
again.
E
It
allows
you
to
look
at
that
and
make
some
of
those
comparisons.
I
then,
just
wanted
to
show
one
more
section
of
the
website,
and
that
is
the
information
when
it
comes
to.
Excuse
me
clicked
on
the
wrong
one:
the
district
environment,
one
thing
that
we
do
as
part
of
our
advanced
ed
accreditation
is,
we
do
give
different
perception
surveys
and
what
you
can
see
here
is
the
participation
that
we
had
the
number
of
students
who
took
that
survey.
Now.
E
This
is
just
one
year
of
data
compared
to
the
state
and
the
goal
was
in
the
80
plus
percent
and
we
certainly
met
that
goal.
And
then,
if
we
go
back
one
page
and
get
into
the
engagement,
we
begin
to
look
at
certain
questions
that
were
aggregated
around
that
survey
and
again
there's
a
comparison
of
where
we
are
at
a
committed
level,
meaning
students
really
found
that
the
people
around
them
and
they
were
engaged
to
a
compliant.
B
F
E
There
is
so
much
information
on
this
website.
I
just
wanted
to
share
some
of
the
major
categories
also
wanted
to
show
both
those
people
who
are
here
in
this
room,
but
maybe
watching
on
YouTube
the
availability
of
this
website.
So
if
they
want
to
see
more
information
about
the
Fargo
public
schools,
it
is
there
in
a
very
transparent
way,
so
are
all
of
the
other
districts
across
the
state
of
North
Dakota.
So
that
is
the
North
Dakota
insights
website.
G
E
G
I
just
want
to
share
I'm
sure
that
you
you
enjoy
this
this
site.
There
used
to
be
a
lot
of
discrepancies
between
what
we
thought
and
what
dpi
purported
for
graduation
rates.
How
we
calculate
those
differences
in
growth,
the
target
is
included
now
so
I
see.
This
is
a
huge
improvement
so
and
it's
nice
to
see
how
I
think
it's
it's
pretty
accurate
compared
to
what
we
see
on
our
own
website.
So
we
don't
really
send
anything
in
other
than
our
test
scores
and
our
numbers
is
that
fair.
E
G
E
H
A
F
What's
going
on?
Why
are
we
and
I
know
when
we
comparison
I
think
you
said
that
the
school
you
came
from
had
a
60%
I
know
we're
very
good,
but
in
North
Dakota
we
expect
more
and
I.
Would
you
know
I'd
like
to
see
those
numbers
in,
at
least
in
the
low
90s
and
I
wonder
why,
if
you
have
any
data
to
indicate
why
we
are
dropping
Roback.
D
A
E
I
would
agree
that
this
is
just
the
beginning
of
what
the
picture
is,
and
what
we
are
doing
then
is
drilling
in
even
deeper
into
some
of
the
different
areas.
So
when
we
looked
at
graduation
rate,
one
area
is
looking
at
the
different
ethnicities
and
trying
to
ask
the
question:
why:
why
is
there
a
difference
between
one
group
of
students
and
another
and
what
programs,
what
supports
do
we
have
in
place?
A
D
Quieter
week,
because
of
spring
break
really
one
of
the
things
that
we
would
like
to
announce
is
that
you'll
see
on
our
I'm
here
that
we
do
have
a
new
principal
for
Centennial
elementary
school,
that
the
board
will
taking
action
on
today
as
well.
So
we're
excited
for
I
mean
first
off
we're
just
beyond
grateful
for
mr.
D
Resnick
and
his
leadership
there,
but
then
we're
also
excited
for
the
new
leader
there,
and
we
know
that
both
of
them
during
this
time
of
transition
will
work
very
closely
together
and
we're
excited
for
the
future
of
that
building
to
continue
some
of
the
great
work.
So
really
looking
forward
to
that
piece.
D
Another
somewhat
of
a
quiet
week,
I'll
just
go
through
a
couple
of
things
that
we
are
monitoring
this
week.
One
is
a
behavioral
health
bill
which
is
House
bill
1249
and
that
just
requires
school
districts
to
include
training
on
mitigation
techniques
for
behavioral
health
problems
during
the
eight
hours
of
you,
hate,
youth,
behavior,
training
that
they
must
provide,
and
that
there's
a
hearing
for
that
tomorrow,
Wednesday
at
2:30
and
then
later
this
week.
D
Actually
no
earlier
today,
we
were
also
supportive
of
Senate
bill
20
to
15,
which
would
create
education
coordination
Council
for
including
Representatives
teaching
staff
from
kindergarten
through
12th
grade
just
to
take
a
look
at
North
Dakota
century
code,
as
it
relates
to
education
policies
and
what
Arya's
that
we
need
to
clean
up,
or
some
things
I've
just
been
rolled
over
year
after
year,
and
that
would
really
just
create
that
Council
to
do
that.
Study
work.
So
a
couple
of
things
that
and
I'll
leave
the
rest
to
Robin
forget
all.
A
C
A
Opposed
motion
passes
on
to
business
three
items.
Our
first
item
is
superintendent
evaluation,
memo,
78,
I,
guess
all
three
of
these
items
from
me
officially,
but
I'll
be
looking
for
some
motions
here,
as
is
indicated
on
the
cover
memo
for
my
superintendent
evaluation.
This
is
something
that
annually
the
board
is
charged
with
evaluating
by
March
15th,
providing
a
superintendent
evaluation,
and
we
all
completed
that
evaluation.
So
thank
you
to
all
board
members
for
taking
the
time
to
do
that.
A
A
C
B
A
Wanted
to
make
sure
that
it
was
official
that
I
was
voting
in
favor
as
well.
Okay,
congratulations!
Mr.
Gandhi
onto
the
ad
hoc
contract
committee,
memo
79!
We
do
have
a
two-year
contract
with
mr.
Gandhi,
but
I.
It
seems
as
if,
historically,
we
have
had
an
ad
hoc
committee
put
together
to
have
the
opportunity
to
sit
down
and
have
a
conversation
with
a
superintendent
to
see
if
there's
anything
that
needs
to
be
addressed
in
regard
to
that
contract.
A
So,
as
has
been
done
historically,
three
members
will
serve
on
an
ad
hoc
committee
and
I
visited
with
Christy
and
John
and
Jennifer
all
to
see,
if
would
be
interested
in
serving
with
Christy
as
chair,
and
they
indicated
they
would
be.
So
this
memo
is
in
front
of
you
and
I
would
look
for
a
motion.
Robin
I'm.
G
G
A
C
F
A
Yes,
motion
passes
memo,
80,
Fargodome,
Authority
nominations,
as
had
been
emailed
out
to
board
members
previously
by
Ann
Marie.
We
received
information
from
the
from
the
city
regarding
the
appointment
to
the
Fargodome
Authority
and
that
that
is
coming
due
now,
where
our
current
representative
Nancy
Nancy
Jordan,
I'm
her
and
time
is
up
so
the
Dome
authority
in
the
city
is
looking
for
us
to
forward
our
names
recommendations
to
them
to
then
make
a
final
decision.
So
the
purpose
of
this
memo
is
to
well.
We
can
decide
here.
We
have
a
couple
of
individuals.
A
Nancy
has
said
that
she
would
again
be
interested
in
serving
and
her
information
has
been
presented
to
us.
Todd
Wilson
also
said
that
he
would
be
interested
our
Director
of
Student
Activities.
Both
names
were
presented
a
couple
years
ago
as
well,
and
so
we
did
send
a
memo
email
out
asking
any
ward
members
had
other
individuals
interested
in
forwarding
and
we
did
not
receive
any
other
names.
So
this
memo
includes
the
names
of
of
the
two
individuals
Nancy
George
Hyman
and
Todd
Olson.
H
G
A
A
D
I
think
you
clarified
it
great
I
was
just
gonna
say
the
memo
is
intentionally
not
designed
to
a
recommendation,
because
administration
just
canvassed
who
would
be
interested
and
we
didn't
know
if
the
board
wanted
additional
discussion
as
well.
We're
just
looking
for
a
motion
to
nominate
two
names
that
we
would
get
to
the
city.
I
wanted.
G
C
A
C
H
I
attended
the
PTA
at
Hawthorn
and
Clara
Barton
on
March,
7th
Thursday
and
just
listened
to
what
they
had
to
say,
and
they
just
have
a
really
a
lot
of
good
ideas
for
the
kids
over
there.
So
I
was
pretty
impressed
and
I
have
my
school
visits
down
as
well,
so
I'm
looking
forward
to
meeting
with
Centennial
and
Clara
Barton
Hawthorne
on
that.
Thank
you
great
thank.
A
G
Quick
because
you
guys
seen
it
all-
let's
see
here-
I
attended
a
Fargo,
Cass
Public
Health
Board
meeting,
and
then
you
have
seen
a
lot
of
the
activity
at
the
legislative
level,
really
there's
not
that
much
to
share
other
than
we
would.
We
postponed
our
next
GAC
meeting,
because
the
only
event
would
have
been
just
to
briefing
me.
Social
and
and
I've
got
a
lot
of
good
feedback
on
that.
G
If
you
guys,
if
there's
anything,
you
need
from
me
different
from
our
weekly
updates
or
any
of
these
articles
that
I'm
sharing
I
think
they're
pretty
self-explanatory.
It's
been
busy
I'm,
tired
I
will
admit
that
it's
been.
It's
been
a
huge
amount
of
work,
but
one
of
the
positives
coming
out
of
this
is.
We
are
getting
a
lot
of
feedback
from
our
legislators
on
how
thankful
they
are
and
they
asked
for
clarifying
questions
and
I.
Don't
think
our
board
has
ever
been
this
engaged
with
their
their
individual
legislators.
A
A
We
have
so
the
rest
of
the
week
here
is
spring
break
March
28th
we
have
our
Governance
Committee
meeting
at
that
meeting
will
be
going
through
some
items
that
we
discussed
at
the
work
fort
or
at
our
work
session
meeting.
So
one
topic
that
came
up
was
further
education
for
board
members,
so
you
saw
the
information
and
in
the
minutes
from
that
work
session,
but
if
anyone
has
any
thoughts
on
not
only
like
policy
governance,
education,
but
other
topics
that
we
should
discuss,
just
send
them
on
to
me.
A
That
would
be
great
so
that
we
could
put
a
plan
together
for
when
we,
when
we
need
to
have
that
education
opportunity
and
we're
already
looking
into
the
annual
convention
the
annual
conference
time,
the
end
of
March
so
I
think
the
time
is
going
to
go
by
quickly.
Thank
you
very
much
for
making
it
tonight,
and
our
next
meeting
is
on
the
26th
of
March.
So
have
a
good
evening.
It's
601
p.m.
thank
you.
