Ed Strong (Director of Blockchain, and Web3 Storage) with Seagate Technologies discusses Web3 and Ecosystem Enablement at the Enterprise Storage Provider Accelerator (ESPA) bootcamp week that took place in April 2022.
ESPA is a program built entirely around the use of Filecoin’s Web3 infrastructure. The decentralisation of storage providers and the availability of globally diverse and auditable data is a solution to the misaligned incentives of the server based Web 2.0 storage providers of today. It also sees added benefits of a flexible open spot market for storage and affordable prices set by independent storage providers bidding for the right to house data. All of which are important considerations for enterprise needs and large datasets.
ESPA, an initiative sponsored by PiKNiK, Protocol Labs, Seagate and AMD benefits everyone from the participants taking in new knowledge and know-how to the end users who will have a more efficient, secure, and robust way to store their data.

a

bit

into

the
market
itself,
the
falcon
market.
You
know,
I
think
many
of
you
guys
have
probably
seen
this
chart.
This
is
just
a
look
back
through
september
of
2020.
incredible
growth.
I
think
you
know
many
of
you
guys
heard
the
comment
that
this
has
grown
faster
than
google
cloud
grew.
I
think
in
its
first
seven
or
eight
years
of
existence,
so
incredible
growth,
and
then
we
kind
of
look
at
this
on
a
quarter
on
quarter
basis.

look
at
it
pretty
much
every
week,
but
I
wanted
to
put
this
in
court
on
quarter
terms.
So
from
the
end
of
december,
to
the
end
of
the
end
of
march,
about
one
and
a
half
epibytes
of
growth,
still
pretty
incredible
and
some
of
the
we
actually,
we
dig
into
this
data
pretty
deeply.
We
look
at
it
geographically.

We
look
at
it
and
how
many
new
minor
ids
came
on
board.
We
look
at,
I
think
stefan
talked
a
little
bit
about
kind
of
the
stratification
of
storage
providers.
So
getting
you
know
smaller
storage
providers
up
into
the
medium
tier
and
so
forth,
and
so
you
know
these
are
some
of
the
highlights
that
we've
we
see
in
the
data
just
in
this
last
go
round
so
365
new
minor
ids.

So
these
are
minor
ids
that
did
not
exist
a
quarter
ago
and
when
you
look
at
how
much
storage
power,
those
guys
represent
it's
about
seven
percent,
so
so,
just
in
the
last
quarter,
seven
percent
completely
new
storage
power.
From
from
these
guys,
you
know,
and
then
we
look
at
decentralized
growth.
So
you
know
how
you
know:
how
did
each
of
these
different
those
these
storage
tiers
kind
of
grow?
So
we
had
a
thousand
four
minor
ids
in
that
2.5
to
10
pebbite
range
their
bit.
Growth
was
over.

You
know,
20
quarter
on
quarter,
so
so
pretty
awesome
there
and
then
some
of
the
larger
guys
in
the
10
to
50
pebba
byte
range
about
334
of
those
guys
grew
about
12.
So
it's
a
good
growth
and
kind
of
more
importantly,
the
the
kind
of
the
smaller,
relatively
smaller
guys
grew
more
than
the
bigger
guys.

So
you
know,
obviously
that
builds
in
this
decentralized
nature
of
this.
This
network,
which
obviously
is
very
important,
and
then
you
know
the
the
deal
activity
so
file
coin
plus
and
how
many
minor
ids
were
associated
with
file
coin,
plus
that
bit
growth
was
53
percent.
So
I
think
we've
seen
a
lot
of
those
charts.

saw
in
akron
tech
how
important
deal
growth,
and
especially
in
fall
coin
plus,
is,
as
far
as
roi
goes
for
the
storage
providers
so
really
really
good
to
see
that,
and
that
to
us
is
another
very
important
part
of
of
the
health
of
this
tree,
so
very,
very
positive
news
there
and
you
know,
hopefully
that
continues
to
grow
u.s
and
canada.
Nsp
growth
was
about
35
a
little
over
35
percent,
so
very
positive
news
there
and
then
for
those
of
us
in
the
room
from
europe
a
lot
of
really
good
growth.

you
know
the
data,
the
willingness
for
data
to
move
on
to
the
network
you
can
see
the
europe
you
know
region
is
is
very,
very
seems
to
be
very,
very,
very
much
untapped
and
we
saw
big
growth
in
you
know.
Just

five
countries
here

regions
in
the
two
to
five
x
range,
so
huge
growth,
two
hundred
to
five
hundred
percent
growth.

of
just

only

the
last
quarter,
but
the
last
kind

several
quarters
and

if
you
kind

take
that

to

We've
we've
just
taken
a

seagate
systems.

in
two
different
flavors.
One
is
just
a
straightforward
jbod,
which
you
can
kind
of
see
at
the
lower
left
here,
and
then
we
have
a
version
of
this
which
we
call
core
vault.
We'll
talk
a
little
bit
more
about
the
features
here,
but
that
this
is
very
you
know
well
suited
for
the
file
coin
environment,
because
it's
got,
you
know
technology
in
it
that
basically,
should
a
block
or
file
go
bad.

We
call
it
adr
or
autonomous,
drive
regeneration.
You
know
so,
basically
we'll
see
something's
gone
wrong.
It
will,
you
know
basically
regenerate
itself
it
does
it
it's
the
the
cool
feature
in
in
with
this.
Is
it
does
it
very,
very
quickly
much
faster
than
in
a
raid
environment?
For
example,
as
I
mentioned,
they're
very
you
know
very
dense.
This
is
good,
not
in
turn
not
only
in
terms
of
cost
per
terabyte,
but
it
also
helps
with
some
of
the
green.

know
initiative
work
that
protocol
labs
is
working
on
because
the
denser
the
system,
you
can
have
fewer
switches,
you
need,
and
that
obviously
saves
and
power
consumption
and
then
the
five
nines
reliability.
So
you
know
this
obviously
plays
well
into
the
slash
and
cost
side
of
things
so
that
the
greater
chance
you
have
that
nothing's
changing
you
know,
day
to
day.
You
know.
Obviously
you
know
bodes
very
very
well
for
you
guys
a
little
more
a
little
bit
more
information
about
how
this
works.

the
drive,
in
fact
lance
I
think,
is
presenting
in
the
technical
track
in
about
an
hour
or
less
he'll
go
into
more
detail
on
this.
But
basically
this
is
how
this
works.
Where
an
error
is
detected,
the
the
data
is
offloaded
and
those
drives
are
then
rebuilt
and
then
basically,
things
are
you're
back
in
business
very,
very
quickly.
It's
it's!
You
know,
adapt
is
required
here
it's,
but
it
is
standards
based,
but
very,
very
cool
technology.
If
you

to
learn

has
got
a
whole
bunch
of
great

in
terms
of
you
know,
jbod
versus
core
vault,
I
think
most
of
the
you
in
the
room
are,
you
know,
well-versed
enough
to
know
the
difference
in
terms
of
what
you'd
want.
Jbod
typically
is
going
to
be
in
for
environments
where
you've
got
you
know
either
an
off-site
backup
or
you
just
want
to
have
two
sets
of
data,
whereas
core
vault
is
more
of
a
kind
of
a
one-stop
shop
to
make
sure
that
you
know
if
data
goes
missing,
it's
it's
it's
regenerated
very
quickly.

do
want
to
highlight
that
we
do
these.
Both
of
those
boxes
are
1.2
required
racks
with
1.2
meter
depth.
We
do
have
a
5u
84
option,
which
is
one
meter
depth
so,
depending
on
what
your
your
rack
depth
is
at
the
cola.

something
to
consider
you

I

a
little
bit
about
the
file,
the
green
initiative.

have

suite
of
products
where

basically
take
it's.

becoming
all
kind

shapes
and
sizes,

a
bit,
but
you
can
basically
offload
the
data
from
a
customer
onto
one
of
these
units.
It's
literally
a
portable,
highly
dense
solution.

that

kind
of

ahead
to

to
not
plunk

dollars
all
at
once
for
your
storage
nodes,
but
you
can
stretch
the
stretch
that
out
over
three
years,
you've
got
more
money
to
use,

you

improved
ceiling
capacity,
improved
collateral
funding.
