to
understand

space

about
taking

get
in
learn
more
about
the
operating
system.
The
software
stacks
everything
you're
doing
to
make
sure
we're
supporting
you
appropriately
so
he's
down
in
those
levels
where
I
have
been
more
on

kind

high
level
product
side.
So
that's
really
what
I
will
be
focusing
on
as
part
of
my
speech
here
so
and
I
just
realized,
I
hit
the
keyboard,
but
I
think
we're
moving
on
anyway.

so
far
in
that
future.
We
don't
have

worry
about
it,
and
here
we
are
shipping
zettabytes
annually.
It's
just
amazing
what
this
industry
is
the
amount
of
storage.
We
have
that,
just
in
my
quote
short
time
of
30
years
in
the
business
seagate's
been
around
for
about
40
years,
I've
had
over
30
40
000
employees
worldwide
and
about
11
billion
in
revenue.

Okay,
I
kind
of
expected
a
few
going
back
to
that
introduction.
The
outdoor
stuff
I'm
out
on
my
snowmobile
or
my
tractor,
doing
those
things
not
so
much
the
gaming,
but
I'm
always
surprised
when
we
go
to
our
sales
meetings.
We
hear
those
folks
speak
that
part
of
our
business
is
almost
a
billion
dollars
a
year
annually.
It's
huge
unbelievable.

have
our
mass
capacity
systems,
which
is
really
what
we're
going
to
focus
on
a
little
bit
here,
whether
they're
cloud
providers
data
center.
Even
video
surveillance,
we've
got
a
line
of
products
specifically
for
video
surveillance,
mainly
the
dvrs,
and
then
we've
got
this
mass
infrastructure
under
the
live
family
name.
This
is
something
that's
really
new
for
seagate.

If
you
go
on
our

you'll
actually
find
a
lot
of
this
information
out
there
and
by
the
way,
because
we
are
in
a
public

everything
I'm
talking
about,
you
can
go

out

the
public
space
on
our

order
to
say
real
low
levels
and
futures,
we
kind
of
have
to
do
things
like
ndas
that
make
it
a
little
more
complicated.
So
anything
I'm
talking
about
is
fair
game
and
a
little
plug.

That's
a
little
more
consumable
versus
having
to
do
maybe
some
slower
methods
to
transfer
large
data
sets
from
a
remote
offering,
but
what
we're
going
to
dive
into
is
kind
of
our
our
capacity
systems
and
it's
really
hard
to
introduce
it.
Without
talking
about
the
history
a
little
bit,
often
with
folks
who
say
if
you're
just
getting
into
systems,
these
must
be
brand
new,
they're,
very
leading
edge.
Are
they
very
reliable?

Actually,
the
way
seagate
got
into
the
business
is
through
two
key
acquisition,
the
first
of
which
a
company
by
the
name
of
zyratex,
and
that
is
actually
where
a
guy
came
from
that's
his
heritage,
the
other
one
is
a
company
called
dot
hill.
That
is
my
heritage
out
of
longmont.
Those
were
the
two
key
systems
companies
that
they
acquired
to
get
into
the
business.
So
between
the
two
of
them
we
have
over
a
million
systems
actually
out
in
the
field.

The
key
point
there
is
they're,
probably
via
an
oem
name
brand,
and
you
wouldn't
recognize
us
on
the
back
end.
So
for
many
many
years
cybertech
and
dot
hill
were
primarily
selling
100
to
oems,
and
it's
all
the
big
guys
out
there
take
our
product
put
their
name,
their
branding
their
badging.
Add
some
additional
software.
What
have
you
to
put
their
name
on
it?
Part
of
what
we
want
to
do
about
two
and
a
half
years
ago.
Is
we
started
our
own
channel
strategy?

That's
where
we
are
putting
the
seagate
brand
out
there
make
it
available
through
our
channel
distribution
partners.
So
folks,
like
yourself,
can
now
work
direct
with
seagate
with
some
of
our
storage
offerings.
So
it's
a
different
go
to
market.
For
us
we
still
have
a
very
strong
oem
business
that
makes
up
the
bulk
of
our
systems
products.

value
those
relationships
incredibly,
but
this
does
does
give
us
some
flexibility
in
terms
of
creating
new
products
that
we
feel
are
valuable
in
the
market
that
we
can
bring
out,
and
it
gives
you
the
opportunity
to
work
directly
with
seagate.
Now
let
me
caveat
that
your
procurement
people
might
ask
what
that
means.
It
doesn't
mean
you'll
buy
the
storage
directly
from
us.
It
means
you
would
go
through.
One
of
your
distribution
partners
that
you
probably
already
have
terms
conditions
everything
set
up
to
do
business
with
and
oh
by
the
way.

our
strategy,
with
how
we've
kind
of
ruled
out
this
to
the
market,
is
a
building
block
config
to
order
type
strategy.
Basically,
you
look
at
the
types
of
devices
you
want.
Do
I
want
12
terabyte
drives.
Do
I
want
16
18
20?
Do
I
want
some
ssds
in
here?
You
pick
a
set
of
enclosures
that
they
go
into
starting
at
the
top
our
densest
platform,
I'm
going
to
go
into
a
little
more
detail
on
that,
for
you

mature,
been
out
there
for
a
while,
but
real
solid,
steady
product
for
us
and
it's
one
meter
capable
by
the
way
I'll
explain
that
in
just
a
second
and
we've
got
2u12
and
the
2u24

some
smaller
implementations
so
depending
on
capacity
size.
What
you're
looking
to
do,
there's
a
set
of
chassis
and
then
the
type
of
storage
device
is
really
dictated
by
the
controller
module.

if
there's
one
additional
thing
you
can
come
away
from
here
besides,
the
fact
that
seagate
does
have
systems
is
really
from
a
high
level.
What
are
those
three
systems
comes
down
to
three
simple
things:
one
is
a
jbot
real,
simple
we're
giving
you
the
enclosure,
those
devices
you
get
access
to.
All
of
them.
Add
your
own
software.
Where
you
go
so
that's
one
class
of
product,
the
next
one
down
on
the
on
the
right
side.
There
is
the
data
protection
think
of
those
as
your
san
or
rage
solution.

Looking
for
storage
to
run
their
vmware
environments,
for
example,
we
play
very
well
there
and
then
last
but
not
least,
is
our
compute
platforms
and
I'm
going
to
talk
a
little
bit
about
that
here
in
a
second.
But
that's
really
our
way.
To
give
you
a
building
block,
not
only
has
a
storage,
but
has
some
compute
infrastructure
that
you
can
then
bring
your
own
software
stack
on
top
of
and
create
a
storage
solution.

We're
not
here
to
sell
servers
per
se,
we're
here
to
sell
building
blocks
that
allow
you
to
add
software
and
by
the
way,
we'll
give
you
the
compute.
So
you
can
have
all
of
that
aggregated
in
a
single
enclosure
and
by
the
way
feel
free
to
raise
your
hand
and
ask
questions,
and
I
will
state
my
hearing
is
not
great.
I
did
not
bring
my
hearing
aids,
my
significant
other
hates
me
for
the
fact
I
never
wear
them.

Another
way
to
look
at
that
is
kind
of
at
the
compute
software
stack
layer.
You
know
at
the
bottom
there
we
ultimately
are
really
a
storage
company,
we're
here
to
provide
the
best
storage
of
the
best
price
point
that
we
can
for
you.
So
we've
got
those
j
bots
we've
got
this
raid
sand
solutions
and
this
new
core
vault,
which
is
kind
of
a
little
bit
of
a
hybrid
of
those.
Two
and
again,
those
are
storage.

Only
no
compute,
nothing,
you
you
add
your
own
servers
there,
but
then,
on
the
far
right
side,
you've
got
the
storage
server.
That's
where
we
start
to
get
up
into
the
compute
site
as
well.
However,
we're
not
adding
the
software,
it's
still
a
bring
your
own
software
to
develop
the
platform
you
want.
So
really,
when
you
think
seagate
system,
those
are
probably
the
real
key
things
you
want
to
walk
away
with.

Let's
talk
about
what
is
probably
most
important
to
this
market:
it's
really
density
and
cost
per
terabyte.
That's
something
very
critical
for
you
guys.
So
what
I
want
to
highlight
is
our
densest
chassis,
offering
it's
based
on
what
we
call
the
4u106
that
chassis
actually
is
the
building
block
for
two
separate
products
we
do,
one
of
which
we
call
the
4u106.

Yes,
we
have
a
question
over
here
and
as
he's
getting
the
microphone,
let
me
state
to
get
that
density
requires
a
1.2
meter
rack.
So
that's
one
thing
to
make
very
clear.
Now
many
of
folks
in
this
space
and
our
cloud
scale
providers
etc.
They're
already
there
they've
recognized
the
need
to
get
to
these
larger
rack
infrastructures,
so
they've
been
there
for
a
while
when
I'm
talking
with
some
customers,
sometimes
it's
more
of
a
small
medium
business
they're,
not
quite
there.
Yet
they
may
have
the
more
standard.
One
meter
rack
those
other
products.

Yes
great
question,
so
this
is
that
that
smaller
5u84
box
actually
is
a
drawer
design
where
the
chassis
stays
in
place
and
you
open
up
the
drawers.
This
product
is
actually
a
translating
axis
type
product
where
you've
got
a
set
of
rails,
cable
management
arm
on
the
back,
you
slide
the
whole
device
out
to
get
access
to
the
drives.
If
you
need
to
do
any
field
service
repairs,
things
of
that
nature,.
A
So
let's
talk
about
this
core
vault
product,
which
is
one
of
the
offerings
based
on
that
chassis.
We
actually
introduced
this
in
the
fall.
It's
our
latest
storage,
offering
that
we've
made
available
it's
currently
available
only
to
our
channel
partners.
We
do
have
some
larger
customers
looking
at
it,
but
this
is
almost
a
seagate
exclusive
in
the
sense
that
you
can
get
this
through
one
of
our
distribution
partners.

First
thing
I'll
highlight
is
this:
does
come
fully
populated,
so
the
intent
here
is
you're
looking
to
buy.
You
know
two
petabytes
out
of
chunk.
We
often
will
have
people
say:
hey,
I'm
interested
in
this
box.
Can
I
get
it
half
populated,
maybe
just
a
couple
of
rows
and
that's
not
the
way
it's
being
sold
today,
if
you're
looking
to
buy
it,
two
petabytes
of
a
chunk,
then
yeah.

This
is
the
box
you
want
to
play
with
so
today,
our
our
current
second
generation
we're
calling
1.1
actually
shipping
with
those
20
terabyte
drives
in
it.
So
that's
where
you
get
the
2.1
petabytes
rock
capacity,
but
one
of
the
real
unique
things
here
is
this
product
is
the
first
example.
In
my
mind,
where
you
had
the
seagate
core
engineering
teams,
meaning
the
folks
doing
our
devices,
the
disk
drives
ssds,
etc.
A
Talking
with
the
system
side
of
the
house
and
saying
hey,
we've
got
the
data
at
the
platter
level
and
we're
putting
in
these
enclosures
you're
in
the
data
path
and
you're
connected
to
a
host.
We
basically
can
talk
platter
to
host
what
are
things
we
can
do
to
add
value
and
additional
features
that
our
customers
can
take
advantage
of,
and
I
think
this
product
is
an
excellent
example
of
that
and
that
top
holder
up
there
self
healing,
is
what
I'm
referring
to
or
adr
for
autonomous
drive
regeneration.

What
that
is
is
the
ability
for
this
device.
When
we
detect
a
drive
failure,
we
can
take
that
drive
offline.
We
try
to
understand
what
is
the
issue?
Is
it
a
single
platter?
Is
it
a
surface
and
we
can
on
the
fly,
regenerate
that
device
and
bring
it
back
in
now.
Part
of
that
is
the
fact,
with
core
vault
we're
doing
the
data
protection.
So
we've
got
this,
adapt
dispersed
parity
and
we've
got
some
built-in
over
provisioning.

So
the
fact
we
know
the
data
layout
where
it
is
allows
us
to
take
that
drive
offline
because
we've
got
it
protected.
We
can
understand
what's
going
wrong
with
it,
remanufacture
that
bring
it
back
into
the
system
and
eliminates
that
service
call.
I
know
in
that
one
slide
that
we
had
there
touring
and
talk
about
hardware
maintenance,
the
folks
that
have
thousands
and
thousands
of
disk
drives
in
their
data
center.

I
don't
care
who
makes
them
there's
always
going
to
be
failures
and
you're
always
going
to
be
replacing
them,
but
this
is
an
opportunity
for
us
to
say
you
know
what
in
the
data
I've
seen,
they
said
upwards
of
80
of
drive
failures.
We
can
detect
and
rebuild
that
drive
and
keep
it
in
play
without
having
a
service
call.
Now,
in
some
cases,
maybe
that
drive
was
a
20
terabyte
to
start
off
with
we
may
rebuild
it.

Maybe
it
comes
in
as
a
19
or
a
17.,
but
essentially
what
we're
doing
is
we're
trying
to
keep
that
intact.
Keep
your
cost
of
ownership
down,
avoid
service
calls.
Hopefully
have
you
not
touched
that
box
for
a
very
long
time?
Super
high
availability,
high
performance,
speaking
of
asia,
I
know
there's
a
comment
on
the
earlier
slide
about.
You
know
we
need
highly
available
systems.
Everything
seagate
does
from
a
system.
Perspective
is
what
I
would
call
h.
A
A
dual
panel
power
supplies,
redundant,
cooling,
dual
connections
at
the
controller
level,
primarily
almost
all
sata
devices.
So
you
have
two
ports,
two
two
paths
to
each
device,
so
we
are
all
in
that
regard
and
this
product
is
built
in
our
latest
generation
asic.
That
is
also
leveraged
in
some
of
our
age
systems.
So,
from
a
throughput
perspective,
iops
perspective,
it's
actually
going
to
give
you
the
highest
amount
we
can
offer
where
we're
actually
in
the
data
path.

Really,
it's
a
combination
of
that
enclosure
with
those
disk
drives
put
in
those
core
vault
controllers
and
you're,
going
to
get
all
these
additional
features
over
there,
including
the
self-healing.
It's
based
on
adapt,
dispersed
parity,
erasure
coding.
So
that's
really
where
we
are
doing
the
data
protection
at
the
disk
drive
level.
We
can
support
sed
devices
for
full
hardware
encryption.

So,
with
adapting
a
very
key
piece
of
that
product,
I
wanted
to
kind
of
quickly
just
highlight
some
of
the
features.
So
what
a
lot
of
customers
will
talk
about
when
they
start
looking
at
these
large
disk
drives

terabytes
is
the
rebuild
time.
I'm
sure
you
guys
heard
of
that.
Hey.
If
I
have
a
drive,
go
down,
that's
a
large
amount
of
data
and
takes
a
long
time
to
rebuild
it.

One
thing's
about
adapt
is
the
way
it
disperses
parity,
it's
doing
it
in
a
parallel
fashion
and
it's
leveraging
all
the
disk
drives
in
that
adapt.
This
group-
and
you
can
see
down
there
with
those
lower
bullet
points
we
can
support
anywhere
from
12
to
128
discs
in
a
single
adapt
pool.
So
the
more
disc
you
have
in
that
adapt
pool
the
faster
those
rebuilds
are
going
to
be
because
we're
not
reading
from
just
a
set
of
drives
we're
reading
from
all
the
drives
to
rebuild.

can
eliminate
geometry
geometry
from
enclosures,
and
that
sounds
a
little
hard
to
grasp,
but
if
you
think
of
in
terms
of
traditional
raid
sets,
you
may
have
a
specific
number
of
disk
drives
that
you
can
support,
maybe
it's

so
you're
getting
these
exercises.
Well,
if
I

raid

and
I
have
16
devices,
but
my
chassis
holds
12
or

combine
those
together,
but
adapt
gives
you
some
nice
flexibility
in
that

We
can
do

You
don't
really
have
some
of
the
same
restrictions
you
do
in
some
of
the
other
ones,

good,
pretty

sequential.

as
well
with
how
we
lay
out
the
data
and
how
you
want
to
set
up
your
bombs.
We

offer
pretty
good
throughput
there.

to
get
the
most
out

investment
and
maximize

dollars

business,

so
what
we're
trying
to
do
is
get

The
best
price
point,
the
highest
capacity

help
you
drive
that
the
core
vault

great
product

fit
into
that,
and
one
of
the
key
things
about
this
product
is
that
we're
pricing
it
at
the
same
price
point
as
the
jbod,
so,
whether
it's
corvalt
or
this
for
you

of
the

it

that
high
capacity
systems,
high
availability,

at
grace
cost
point

comes
down

these
two
products

how
does

software
stack

because
core
vault
is
doing
that
data
protection,
we're
presenting
luns
out
to
your
application,
so
you're
seeing
luns,
whereas
in
a
jbod
we're
giving
you
access
to
all
those
individual
disk
drives?

wrap
up
on
a
couple
other
things,
particularly
the
picnic
folks,
had
some
interest
in
this
product,
so
I
want
to
quickly
point
out
what
we're
doing

this
code
name:
bonneville
controller.
This
is
part
of
that
application
platform
that
I
talked
about
earlier,
where
hey
we're,
starting
to
give
you
some
compute
that
now
you
can
bring
your
own
software
to
this
is
brand
new
introduced
back
in
november.

will
point
out
that
those
controllers
are
about
the
size
of
a
stack
of
copy
paper,
so
it's
pretty
condensed
and
very
tight
in
there,
and
because
of
that
that
really
impacts
how
you
design
products.
What
is
the
mac
cpu?
You
can
put
in
there
how
much
memory,
because
you
get
all
those
power,
heating,
cooling
requirements
that
go
along
with
that,
but
for
some
of
our
application
for
what
people
are
trying
to
do.

is
providing
a
nice
platform
that
they
can
then
bring
their
own
os
put
on
software
stack
and
develop
something
on,
and
it
is
available
in
the
three
one
meter
chassis,
so
the
two
year,

24
and
that
5u.
Those
are
the
three
chassis
that
this
box
is
available
in.
So
it's
not
available
in
those
big
4u
106,
but
certainly
those
other
one
meter
capable
chassis
is
where
that
device
will
fit.

have
many
oems
that
take
this
and
rebrand
it
out
in
the
market
very
very
popular.
We
see
a
lot
of
of
interest
in
this,
not
so
much,
maybe
in
the
newer,
more
modern
software-defined
storage
worlds.
There
are
some
companies
that
take
advantage
of
those
ones
and
and
use
them,
but
certainly
for
customers
that
are
maybe
doing
more
on-prem
things
need
edge,
storage,
etc,
where
they're
using
vmware
windows.

What
have
you
these
products
work
very
well
in
that
space,
and
let
me
quickly
highlight
one
of
the
key
things
we
do
is
all
of
our
systems,
including
cornwall
leverage.
The
same
asic
and
and
part
of
that
is
to
keep
bomb
costs
down.
That
asic
is
in
the
data
path.
It's
maneuvering
the
data,
it's
responsible
for
all
of
the
data
transfer
and
the
fact
that
we
do
our
own
asic
allows
us
to
cut
a
lot
of
cost
out
in
terms
of
we
don't
need
expensive
cpu.

We
don't
need
a
lot
of
memory
in
there,
because
the
asic
takes
care
a
lot
of
that
and
it
really
comes
down
to
we're
trying
to
play
in
the
entry
level
price
points
for
this
product.
We're
not
trying
to
sell
a
250,
000,
all-flash
array
box.
Ours
is
going
to
be
more
like
50
to
100
000.
It's
really
more
that
entry
level
play
and
a
lot
of
that
comes
from
the
fact.
The
way
we've
designed
this
product
leverage
the
asic
and
keep
those
bomb
costs
down.

It's
got
a
full
software
stack
on
it,
so
we
have
a
virtualization
layer
and
it
enables
things
like
auto
tearing
so
for
customers
that
want
to
mix
and
match
some
hdds
along
with
some
ssds.
We
have
an
auto
turing
software
functionality.
That's
pretty
robust,
looks
at
hot
data
understands
what's
hot,
what's
cold
automatically
will
move
small
block
random
transactions
to
ssds
it'll?
Take
those
long
streaming
more
sequential
workloads
push
them
down
to
hdd
all
intelligent
all
done
automatically
for
the
customer.
They
don't
have
to
worry
about.

It
also
support
thin
provisioning
snapshots
and
a
async
replication.
Those
are
an
optional
software
bundle
many
times.
Customers
don't
need
that.
So
we
kind
of
break
that
out,
but
it
supports
that
and
of
course
all
of
our
raid
products
do
support
the
adapt
technology
as
well.
So
we
I'm
really
highlighting
it
on
core
vault,
but
all
of
our
raid
systems.
