In this video we introduce the Geophysics Without Boarders (GWB) groundwater project and introduce the team members for the short course.

Everything that is going to happen over the next two weeks, as well as make sure that it's all accessible on the on the cloud and when we have things uh spoken in english, it's translated.

So this, as we've already said, is, are a geoscience without borders, um presentation uh geoscience, how many people have heard of geoscience without borders.

That's good uh so geoscientists without borders. uh It has a mission, uh it's from the seg, the society for exploration, geophysics and it's basically to support humanitarian application of geoscience knowledge and technology around the world.

So duma scientists.

So it funds projects that benefit communities and it looks for regions that are in need, like mon state and having water stress villages, and it concentrates on developing uh liaisons between uh indus or between academics and the people who are in the particular country.

A

So this is a large project. We have been working on it for probably over a year and it involves many people and many institutions. Let me just tell you who everybody is. My name is doug odenberg, I'm a professor at the university of british columbia.

I am the director of what's called the geophysical inversion facility, how many people know or heard.

Reversion inversion, inversion, inversion, inversions.

In version, so it's like a little bit like.

The next person on here is kevin fan kevin's over here. You know kevin from previous year, and he is. He is the reason that this whole project has uh got four kevin spent six months here, working with you on a crusoe project and did a first pass at working with dc resistivity here and realize that there is more benefit that could be obtained by coming back having a bigger group having better equipment and retraining.

So that is the reason that that we're here.

So max is our equipment guy and a geophysicist who knows how to use geophysical equipment to acquire data and to answer uh important problems. So he is going to be the prime person who really is going to be training you on how to acquire data and what the field techniques are and how to use the cisco instrument.

So the two other maxwell well not maxwell, michael maxwell. The instrument.

Is here in myanmar, but he is totally sick. He's got a very bad stomach flu stomach something and he is flat out in bed, but he is a geophysicist.

He works with me at ubc and he is knowledgeable about geophysical processing and in particular the notebooks that I'm going to be talking to you about, and the development of open source resources.

He's currently a postdoc at stanford university.

The software that you're going the software that you're going to be using for inversion has primarily been developed by soggy there's another. You know a bigger team, that's involved, but soggy has been the main person for doing the forward. Modeling and simulation algorithms.

Stanford and lindsay hagee is a prime person in the development of our open source resources and for development of our websites, as well as being a an important scientist in developing a lot of the software that you will see today.

The open resource for open source.

Lindsay is at the university of berkeley, california, and she is involved with the jupiter project, and you will be seeing many jupiter notebooks throughout this next two weeks to help you learn and to help you.

So that's who we are. This is a very remarkable team. These are very, very good people. Everybody has worked really hard to try to put together a course that is going to be really useful for you.

So that's who we are. I want to take five minutes now and find out who you are so what we're going to do is I'm going to go to everybody in this room and there's somebody has a camera who where's the guy with the camera.
