Hi., I'm filip.. I also live here in berlin,, and I want to show you.

Really quick, two tools that haven't made it past version, 1.0, yet.,.

A

The first one is what I call a bump version,.

A

And I wrote it to scratch my own itch.

A

In every makefile, rakefile,, whatever project I was working, on,.

A

I had a few shell commands for the situation when you have to release.

A

The software, increase the version number in all the files,.

A

Where the version number is hidden, and yeah.

A

Then commit that, come up with a meaningful, commit message like.

A

"Bump version" or "new version" or "release" or something,.

A

And then tag that.. This is pretty much all it does.

A

So I made a screencast and I skipped to the part where it becomes interesting.

A

I have the setup.py file where the version number is stored. In,.

A

And I'm going to invoke bumpversion on that, tell it what.

A

The current version is, because it can't figure that out by itself,, not yet,, but I'm working on that.

A

Then it increases the version number., that's the trivial part, and I can write it.

A

Again and tell it to bump a different part of the version,.

A

In this case, the minor version,, not the patched version as before,.

A

And it automatically increases this to 0.1.0.

A

I can store all of these command line. Flags, in...the, vim thing.

A

On this, virtual machine was installed somewhere else.

A

I can store all the options in a configuration file, so that.

A

Every time I need to increase the version, I just type "bumpversion;".

A

It does the right thing.. I can also check that into.

A

Version control of your choice.- I just built mercurial support.

A

A few days ago,, but it supports git.

A

Then you just type bumpversion,, it does the right thing and tags it,.

A

And soon annotates it, and you can push it.

A

It saves me a few keystrokes;.

A

Every time I release software, I need it should do that often and early.

A

You can tell it which files it needs to store.

A

Just skip to the part where I create the git repository and.

A

Check all the files in and then tell it to git tag and git commit it,.

A

And it created a commit that does the right, thing.

A

I'm really interested in whether that fits your workflow.

It kind of fits my workflow..

Do you increase the version number after you release, or before you release?? It's really designed to fit.

A

As many workflows as you want,, so you can configure your configuration,.

A

How your version number looks like, how it should be parsed, how it should be serialized., I'm committed to fit this as many.

That's the first thing..

The second thing is a project I started on a weekend.

A

Three years ago. it's on github, by the way., it's written in python.

A

It's really like 150 lines,, so it should be easily hackable.

A

The second thing is geocommit, at geocommit.com.

A

I wrote this when I first heard about git nodes, and what can I do with.

A

Git nodes., I need a use case., it's basically a post-commit.

A

Hook that hooks into a core location on the mac and into.

A

All the available wifi towers and google api call to figure out.

A

Where you are once you commit., you commit,, it figures out.

A

Where you are, stores that attached as a node to your commit.

A

After a while,, you kind of get all the locations where you write, code.

A

It also has mercurial support, that originally called geogit,.

A

And was forked, like on the first day.. We have post-receive hooks.

A

That we're trying to build a web service around it,.

A

Where we can figure out where people commit code, in what language, and at what altitude and speed, and whatever.

A

So there's a google chrome extension that I hope still works,.

A

Where you can see directly on github, near the git nodes,.

A

Where you created that commit., probably tomorrow at the.

A

Hack day, I will be working on the client,, because that needs.

A

Some test engineering to really work on current mac, os versions.

A
