In this talk, Rok Novosel and Hamel Husain will present CodeSnippetSearch, a web application extension that allows you to search GitHub repositories using natural language queries and code itself. It uses PyTorch to power deep neural networks which embed natural language queries and code snippets into vectors. Using nearest neighbor search, it can determine which code snippets are most similar to a given query or another code snippet. What's more, a tool like CodeSnippetSearch can allow you to easily explore unfamiliar code focusing on the semantics without getting bogged down in the syntax, which is especially useful when onboarding a new developer onto a project.

Presented by Nicole Forsgren, VP Research & Strategy, GitHub
In 2020, we’ve had to rethink how to collaborate and build software in the world’s largest trial of remote work. As the year comes to a close, what lessons can we bring to our organizations to empower development teams and embrace the challenges set before us? And what does it all mean for the future? Dr. Nicole Forsgren will share insights on the findings from her past work and the 2020 State of the Octoverse report, including how open source is at the forefront of collaboration.

Presented by:
Aliza Carpio, Principal Tech Evangelist, Intuit
Rocio Montes, Staff Software Engineer, Intuit
For large enterprise companies with thousands of engineers across the globe, shifting to an innersource mindset and culture can be a formidable challenge. Such was the case for Intuit in early 2018 when the company set out on its innersource journey. At the time, its engineering teams were using different structures for their repositories, different best-practices for documentation, and different workflows for code reviews. Today, the company is well on its way to company-wide adoption of innersource, with more than half of its repositories open for contribution, and a goal to open them all. In this talk, Intuit will share a model that enterprise companies can use to teach global engineering teams to work as an innersource community. With easier ways to add features, manage dependancies, and build new skills, you'll come away with the knowledge your team needs to build better software faster.

Presented by Chris Swan,. CTO Modern Apps & Cloud Native, DXC Technology
This talk will take you through the version control module of DXC's recently open-sourced online DevOps Dojo. The journey will begin by explaining the need for version control and getting the environment set up by connecting to GitHub. We'll show you how to make changes to code, and run through to a pull request that's then edited to account for (bot-based) peer review before being merged in preparation for the next steps.
