Presented by
Char Stiles, Computational artist, graphics programmer and educator, Livecode.nyc
Dan Gorelick, Engineer, creative coder, and musician, Livecode.nyc
Livecoded Compositions is an audio-visual performance—a collaboration between visualist Char Stiles and musician Dan Gorelick. “Livecoding” is editing and recompiling code on the fly to create visuals and/or music. The visuals are created by using a shader language GLSL, and the music is created with a coding library called TidalCycles and an OB6 synthesizer. Char and Dan will start with a short tutorial on how to livecode, then they'll display their text editors as they create the experience. Livecoded Compositions celebrates the serendipity and joy that can arise out of programming as a creative medium for performance and collaboration.

Presented by:
Mobina Nouri, Scholar | Lecturer | Artist, Collective Mega Creativity & Innovation
Shaghayegh Cyrous, Curator /Artist/ Lecturer, Collective Mega Creativity & Innovation
Collective Mega Creativity & Innovation (CMCI) is a project that explores the creative process and its outcomes in a group that reflects an individual mind. One of the focuses is activating the five senses through creative problem solving—which can produce more robust ideas and lead to more culturally relevant results than individual creativity alone. These methods inspire people in groups to be more open to their insight, expression, imagination, and creativity.

Presented by Olivia Wong, Senior Partner, Prototype Thinking Labs
Did you know that 85% of the reasons a product fails can be discovered in a few simple experiments without a functional prototype? We know we need to test, but we rarely get in front of users as early or often as we should. In this talk, we’ll show you how to prototype and test the biggest existential questions in hours. You’ll walk away with tangible examples and a new toolkit that anyone can use. Prototype Thinking is a method born at GoogleX for increasing the speed of learning by 10x or more. Using dozens of rapid, low-cost prototypes and simulation-based experiments, Prototype Thinking teams ensure that they not only build a product right but that they are building the right product.

Presented by Tracy DeLuca, Founder + Design Strategist, How Might We Design
Ever feel like you’re just not creative? Our ability to think creatively is a requirement for progress, especially for developers shaping the technologies that will help us tackle global challenges. Let’s get together and grapple with some interesting questions: Just how rare is creativity in humans? How do our brains help or hurt us in coming up with novel solutions to problems? And how exactly do we imagine the unimaginable? You’ll walk away with newfound creative confidence, and respect for that three-pound piece of meat taking up space in your head.

Presented by James Proctor, Data Visualization Engineer, Pitch Interactive
Visualization is a powerful tool for describing and understanding information. You're probably used to seeing these kinds of visuals accompanying news stories, or as part of tools that you use at work, or to keep track of personal information like your finances or health. It's easy to focus on the massive scale of a dataset or the dramatic quality of spectacular design, but data visualization as a process begins much more simply by asking questions, observing, and thinking critically. This session will discuss that process from start to finish: beginning with data collection, moving on to analysis and sketching, and finally creating the visualization itself.
