Presented by: Zeke Sikelianos

Deep learning can do extraordinary things: it can drive cars, write code, and make art. But it's still really hard to use, and many models require specialized hardware to run. Thanks to the new GPU support in GitHub Codespaces, working on these models just got a lot easier. Replicate is making it easier to build and run machine learning models, so more people can use them to solve real-world problems. In this talk, Zeke will show how to use Codespaces to fine-tune a generative text-to-image model and deploy it to the cloud as an API. Check out Zeke's resources here: https://github.com/zeke/universe-22

Presented by: John Berryman & Luke Dramko

GitHub recommends repositories to help developers discover their next passion project, find a handy tool, or learn about a useful library. In this talk, John and Luke will give you a behind-the-scenes look at GitHub's repository recommendation system, discuss the two dominant approaches for recommendation systems, and explain how GitHub is exploring both paradigms for serving personalized repository recommendations. They'll also compare the fundamental tradeoffs in characteristics, capabilities, and costs.

Presented by: Vincent Hellendoorn

Following the release of GitHub Copilot, GitHub’s developer community quickly responded by building new open source neural code models and tools built on top of GitHub Copilot. In this talk, Vincent will review several of these models and discuss their design, impact, and trade-offs compared with GitHub Copilot. Vincent will then take a broader look at the emerging trends in this space and discuss the opportunities and challenges for open source AI tool builders.

Presented by: Avinash Sooriyarachchi

Streaming data processing has moved from niche to mainstream, and deploying machine learning models in such data streams opens up a multitude of possibilities. However, most data teams shy away from this approach because of its complexity. In this talk, through retail industry-specific applications, Avinash will explain how Databricks Delta Live Tables, AutoML, and Github Actions can be used together to make production-grade streaming machine learning simple and feasible.

Presented by: Noah Gift

GitHub ecosystem is a perfect location to teach once and deploy reproducible education assets, including source code, configurable .devcontainer, continuous integration and delivery, and AI-assisted code completion with GitHub Copilot. Additionally, this is conducive to teaching complex topics like MLOps because this toolchain manages the complexity of getting started. Students can follow along live but later reproduce real-world projects using the GitHub ecosystem.
