So
I
have
this
netify
build
plug-in
that
I
created
I've,
been
a
avid
netlify
fan
for
quite
a
while.
Now
it
kind
of
introduced
me
to
like
the
jam
stack
and
just
generally
building
apps,
much
quicker
and
not
worrying
about
devops
devopsy
things,
and
once
I
joined
cloud
narrator,
I
thought
you
know
there
wasn't
a
plug-in
available.
So
where
can
I
kind
of
fit
that
in
and
build
something
that
I
can
help
other
people
easily
get
spun
up
with
culinary
and
the
benefits
it
brings
right?

So
yeah
I
created
this
plugin
and
we
can
kind
of
just
look
through
the
readme,
I'm
not
going
to
walk
through
the
entire
readme,
but
ultimately
what
it
does
is
a
netify
build
plug-in
gives
you
the
ability
to
hook
into
different
parts
of
the
build
process,
so
we're
talking
about
typically
in
the
build
process.
You
have
your
build
step
and
you
have
your
deploy
step
right,
so
we
can
do
pre-build.
We
can
do
during
the
build.
We
can
do
post
build.

So
what
I
do
is
hook
into
those
different
steps
and
configure
to
grab
all
the
different
images
in
the
project,
and
then
I
can
turn
them
into
cloudary
urls
and
send
them
over
to
your
cloudinary
account,
but
also
because
the
web
is
a
tricky
place
and
it's
very
javascript
heavy.
I
can't
do
that
to
all
the
images
right.
That's
really
only
on
page
images,
so
what
it
does
on
top
of
that
is.
It
provides
a
redirect,
so
anything
you
put
in
your
images
directory
you'll
automatically
be
served
from
cloudnary.
So
that's
that's
the
overall
gist.

The
hope
is
that
we
can
get
all
of
our
images
from
the
website
being
served
through
cloudnery,
so
to
kind
of
test
this
out.
I
have
this
demo
repository.
Let
me
pull
it
up.
Okay,
it's
just
a
simple
astro
application.
If
you're
not
familiar
with
astro,
it's
a
it's
a
pretty
cool
javascript
framework,
I
have
to
keep
changing
its
existing
tab,
but
I'm
just
going
to
show
what
the
app
looks
like.
So
this
is
just
a
very
simple
demo.
All
it
has
is
a
bunch
of
images.
Loading
in
there.

That's
why
I
tried
to
do
as
much
as
I
can
ahead
of
time
without
you
know
spoiling
all
the
fun,
but
the
cool
thing
is
we
can
see.
Netflix
netlify
already
grabs
some
of
the
different
settings
for
the
build,
so
yarn
build
that's
command.
I
used
to
build
a
project
and
the
dist
directories
where
it's
gonna
be
output
to
so
ultimately,
it's
going
to
take
that
site.
It's
going
to
clone
it
down
and
it's
going
to
build
it
into
play.
So
all
I
have
to
do
is
click
the
play
site.

at
this
point
it's
going
to
go
out
to
comforting
alpaca,
which
is
a
pretty
fantastic
name.
I
I
really
enjoy
the
thought
that
netlify
puts
into
those
names
and
because
it's
a
simple,
astro
app.
It's
going
to
be
pretty
quick,
so
we'll
see
here,
but
we
got
to
wait
a
second
for
it
to
actually
deploy,
because
then
we'll
actually
look
at
the
deployed
application
again
and
see
where
we're
starting
from
and
then
where
we
can
improve
with
cloudinary.

sure
sure
so
cloudnary
is
a
media
platform,
which
means
a
ton
of
things.
It
starts
from
actually
managing
your
media.
So,
like
uploading,
your
images
to
your
cloudary
account
where
you
can
just
generally,
you
know,
have
a
store
of
all
your
images
and
media,
including
videos
and
really
any
kind
of
media,
but
then
taking
it
from
there.

have
the
media
delivery
and
the
transformations,
so
that's
as
simple
as
delivering
it
from
a
performance
cdn,
but
it's
also
has
some
really
cool
features
like
on-the-fly
transformations,
so
that
might
be
resizing
or
cropping,
or
you
can
even
do
things
like
create
the
social
images
like
we
talked
about
earlier,
where
you
can
do
a
bunch
of
different
overlays
so
that
you
can
create
these
really
customized
dynamically
created
cards
that'll
be
served
for
whatever
the
purpose
is
like
social
media.
So
there's
there's
a
lot
of
cool
things
you
can
do
with
it.

sourced
from
netlify
they're
just
locally
to
the
deploy
right.
So
it's
coming
from
the
nullify
cdn,
which
is
expected
because
they're
just
simple
images
being
served
directly
from
the
local
application.

a
good
idea.

That's
a
good
idea
as
long
as
that's
still
viewable
for
everybody.
But
ultimately
what
I
want
to
show
is
like
the
different
things
here
that
we
get
the
type
the
size
the
time
now.
These
images
I
just
simply
grab
from
unsplash
like
just
as
simple
demo
images,
and
I
just
threw
them
up
on
a
page.
But
the
point
is
that
I
want
to
try
to
convey,
is
taking
image
like
images
like
that
that
are
typically
not
put
into
any
kind
of
optimization
process.

How
can
we
actually
provide
the
benefits
of
optimization
without
having
to
go
through
a
lot
of
hoops?
So
that's
where
the
cloudnary
plugin
is
going
to
come
in
for
netlify.
So
let's
see
how
we
can
actually
install
that
right
right.
So
I'm
going
to
head
over
to
plugins
and
go
to
the
plugins
directory,
where
I'm
going
to
simply
search
for
cloudnary.

Otherwise,
like
it's
you're,
really
just
going
to
hit
the
limits
fast,
if
everybody's
using
my
own
account
so
make
sure
you
go
grab
your
own
free
account
to
do
this
instead.
But
all
we
need
to
do
is
add
this
environment
variable
and
it's
in
the
readme
of
the
plugin.
If
you
need
it,
then
I'm
going
to
hit
save
and
then
I'm
going
to
head
back
over
to
my
site
overview
where
all
I
need
to
do
now
is
trigger
a
new
deploy.

I'm
going
to
head
here,
click
deploy
site
and
then
we
can
sit
back
and
we
can
watch
it
deploy
again.
Now
it's
going
to
take
a
few
minutes
again,
we,
the
other
one,
was
31
seconds
so
take
slightly
longer,
probably
because
it's
processing
the
images,
but
we
can
even
open
up
the
build
logs
and
we
can
start
to
see
what's
happening
now
in
the
meantime,
while
that
is
running,
does
anybody
have
any
other
questions
thus
far.

to
still
try
to
maintain
the
integrity
of
the
image,
but
without
including
all
the
extra
bits
that
you
can't
really
visually
perceive
right,
so
that
you
can
get
that
file
size
smaller.
But
then
you
can
also
optimize
it
by
doing
things
like
resizing
it,
where,
if
you
don't
need
to
have
a
humongous
image,
you
can
resize
it
down
so
that
you
can
only
serve
the
as
big
of
an
image
that
you
need
and
avoid
wasting
a
bunch
of
bandwidth
for
people
who
are
downloading
those
images.

think
you
know
those
are
two
of
the
big
ones,
there's,
definitely
more,
but
oh
and
there's
also
like
the
file
format.
So
what
that
means
is
like
we
saw
that
there
were
jpegs
and,
like
you
can
serve
more
modern
formats
which
will
provide
better
compression
algorithms
that
we
were
talking
about
earlier.
So
if
I
actually
start
to
look,
oh
it's
still
going.

it
was

the
typical
stuff
that
happens
from
netlify,
where
we

this
build
command,

it's
just
simply
running
yarn
build

astro
build.

we

get
that
very
first
request
is
going
to
be
super
optimized,
but
then
netflix
goes
through
deploys
the
site
and
finishes
up
and
actually
makes
it
live.
But
now,

in
a

it's
going
to
load
and
it
probably
doesn't
look
anything
different.

of
all,
is
this
type
where
this
new
tab
has
avif
for
all
the
different
types
and
if
we
look
at
the
other
one,
we
have
jpeg.
So
the
first
thing
we're
doing
is
we're
taking
advantage
of
cloud9's
ability
to
automatically
serve
a
modern
format
depending
on
the
browser,
that's
actually
requesting
it.
So
what
that
means
is
not
all
browsers
might
support
avif,
for
instance,
for
example,
if
it
supports
webp
it'll
serve
webp
if
it
doesn't
support
either
of
those
it'll
support.

It'll
serve
jpeg
right,
so
it's
going
to
try
to
automatically
determine
what's
going
to
be
the
best
format
to
serve
for
the
particular
media,
that's
being
served
now.
Taking
that
a
step
further,
we
can
start
to
look
at
the
size
here
too.
Now,
if
I
tab
back,
we
can
see
that
a
lot
of
these
are
a
lot
smaller.

can
do
things
like
configure
your
uploads
and
typical
cloud-narrating
upload
configurations,
but
the
idea-
and
the
hope
here
is
to
provide
these
blanket
optimizations
so
that
people
can
just
simply
install
this
plug-in
and
not
really
have
to
do
much
more
right,
and
just
simply
this
alone,
like
we
can
look
at
the
even
transferred
here
at
the
bottom
too,
like
the
original
4.5
megabytes
transferred,
which
dropped
down
to
1.5,
like
that's
a
substantial
difference
right
but
yeah,
that's
that's
the
plug-in
yeah,
that's
the
plug-in.

haven't
really
dove

jxl
yet,

sounds
like
we
support

supports
svgs,

extent

know.
For
instance,
you
can
turn
an
svg
into
a
different
format.

just
don't
know
the
extent
that
you
can
work
with
them.

involved

different
ways
to
optimize

versus

ideas
applied,

it's
going
to

different
ways

are
specific

because

what
safari
supports
right

within
the
what's
happening
in
the
background
with
cloud
mary,
it's
trying
to
determine

it
support?
Second
of
all,
what's
going
to
be
the
best
option,
so,
while
most
of
the
time
those
modern
formats
are
going
to
be
the
best
format
available,
for
you
know
reducing
the
size,
that's
not
all
the
cases.

you'll

able
to
answer
this
lots

like
image
questions,
and
I
know
you're
like
a
software
engineer

a
developer
advocate,

guess

whenever
I
run
it
some
performance
tools,
they
suggest
webp,
but
it
seems
the
browser.

limited.

audience

having

can
support
mostly
modern
browsers

they're
automatically

you
have
a
bunch
of
images
that
are
just
like
randomly
sorted
right,
like
that's,
not
really
going
to
provide
the
best
experience
where
you
have
these
different
sizes
and
they're
not
really
consistent,
but
you

scrolling
down
to
the
end
result:
let's
get
to
it,
but
cloudinary
has
where
you
can
actually
crop
dynamically
based
off
of
what
they
call
a
gravity,
and
in
this
case
we
can
set
that
gravity
to
faces.
So
it's
going
to
detect
the
faces
in
that
image
and
crop
it
based
off
of
where
that's
at
so.

result

we

are
cropped

changing
the
background
image
or
the
background
of
an
image
with
cloudnary.

run
this
code
sandbox,
which
is
going
to
load
the
demo
if
it
doesn't
take
too
long,
but
we're
kind
of
working
in
a
couple
steps
here
where
the
first
thing
we
need
to
do
is
we
need
to
actually
remove

background
and
the
cool
thing
is
with
cloudnary.
Is
we
can
do
that
intelligently
by
using
cloudnaryai?

I
can
actually
open
up
the
code
in
the
sandbox
and
we
can
look
at
that.
So
I
think
I'm
actually
setting
that
as
an
option
in
the
app.
So
when
you're
uploading
your
image
to
cloudnary
and
right
now,
I
have
a
proxy
of
an
upload
because
in
order
to
upload
and
provide
some
of
these
options,
you
need
to
be
able
to
do
so
sign
and
you
need
your
api
key,
your
api
secret
and
you
don't
want
those
things
in
the
client
right,
you're
starting
sandbox.

it

working
before
it's

it's

I'm

cloud

cloudary
account.

provide
a
second
upload
where
it's
going
to
then
remove
the
background
using
that
cloudary
ai
technique.
So
the
interesting
thing
about
that
is
it's
not
going
to
happen
synchronously.
So
typically,
when
you
make
a
request,
you
would
think
that
you
send
the
post
and
you're
going
to
get
the
response
back
right.
So,
what's
actually
going
to
happen
is
once
you
send
that
request
it's
going
to
come
back
as
pending.

So
what
I
need
to
do
in
this
application
is,
I
need
to
keep
checking
the
status
of
it
and
once
it's
finished,
because
it's
not
something
that
can
happen
instantaneously
right.
It's
it's
complicated,
ai,
based
processing.
So
once
it's
finished,
we
can
now
see
that
I
have
that
background
completely
removed
and
the
better
the
more
fun
thing
is.

being
able
to
make
everything,
look
consistent,
yeah
and
again
we
can
start
to
inspect
this
url

we

that
all
these
transformations

an
underlay
does
is
basically
the
same
thing,
but
it
allows
me
to
kind
of
slide
something
underneath
so
because
this
original
image

the
transparent
background.

slide

then,

can
just
fill
all
the
available
space
using
that
crop
of
fill,
setting
the
relative
width
of
1.0
for
both
the
height
and
the
width,
and
I
have
my
underlay,
which
lets
me
change
my
background
and
again,
that's
all
happening
right
inside
the
url,
the
url,
my
chair,
don't.

we're
doing

to
