this
year
it

seven
year
anniversary
of
hacktober.
First,

oktoberfest
was
started
seven
years
ago,
which
is
really
insane
when
you
think
about
it,
and
it
was
started
by
mainly
by
digitalocean
digital
ocean
intel,
deaf
community.
We
obviously
have
a
lot
of
different
partners
involved
in
hacktoberfest,
but
hacktoberfest
was
started
as
a
month-long
celebration
to
encourage
people
to
get
involved
in
open
source.

if
you
are
new
here,
not
too
sure
what
open
source
is
open
source
is
I'm
going
to
turn
my
body
off
just
a
little
bit.
So
open
source
is
a
community
first
and
foremost,
but
it
was
also
it
refers
to
software.
So
when
we
talk
about
like
an
open
source
software,
we
talk
about
software
that
is
free
to
use
and
free
to
contribute
to.
So
we
talk
about
the
open
source
community.

talk
about
a
community
of
developers
who
are
working
together,
writing
code
together,
building
projects
together
and
learning
together
as
well,
which
is
what
I
really
really
like
about
the
open
source
community.
Is
this
community
of
just
learning
together
and
being
amazing,
and
so
seven
years
ago
I
hacked
over.
You
know
a
bunch
of
people
who
started
hacktube
first
thought
that
this
would
be
a
really
really
good
way
to
encourage
people
to
get
involved
in
open
source,
because
a
lot
of
people
use
open
source
software
projects,
but
don't
necessarily
contribute
to.

don't
even
know
how
to
contribute
to
it,
and
so
this
was
started
as
a
way
to
get
people
involved
so
in
the
open
source
community,
there's
kind
of
like
a
an
ethos,
almost
like
an
unspoken
rule.
If
you
will

if
you
use
open
source
software,
you
contribute
back
to
open
source
now,
there's
lots
of
different
ways
to
contribute.
Now,
I'm
going
to
talk
about
a
lot
of
those
ways.
Obviously
one
of
the
main
ways
to
contribute
back
is
by
writing
code
or
bug.
Fixes
writing
features.
Things
like
that.

contribute

ways

contribute
by
requesting
features
and
you
can
contribute
by
helping
out
with
documentation,
can
help
by
working
on.
