From YouTube: GitLab 12.9 Kickoff - Enablement:Database
Description
Kickoff for GitLab 12.9 for the Database group
A
Hi
I'm
Josh
Lambert,
a
product
manager
here,
I,
get
lad,
and
today
I'd
like
to
talk
about
what
we're
playing
to
accomplish
for
12.9
in
the
database
group.
We're
really
focused
on
one
key
area
here
for
Table
nine,
and
that
is
progress
towards
being
able
to
partition
more
of
our
Postgres
database.
We
are
working
across
the
company
to
be
able
to
adopt
post
res
11
as
the
minimum
required
version
and
get
lab
13.0
in
May,
and
as
part
of
that,
we're
also
then
going
to
take
advantage
of
new
PG
unrelated
features
like
partitioning.
A
This
will
help
us
to
increase
performance
for
some
tables
that
are
that
have
grown
quite
large.
You
can
see
we
have
a
number
of
items
here,
tracking
the
partitioning
effort,
in
particular
we're
working
on
two
of
these
areas
in
12.9.
The
first
one
is
that
we
need
to
move
from
schema
RB
over
to
structure
about
sequel.
A
We're
also
doing
some
work
on
defining
what
we
need
to
do
really
for
partitioning
as
well
right.
So
how
should
we
partition
our
tables?
Understand
the
impact
of
partitioning,
for
example,
on
issues,
issues
search
and
so
we're,
essentially
dual
tracking.
So
as
groups
like
distribution
are
working
on
the
PG,
though
an
upgrade,
the
database
group
is
trying
to
make
sure
that,
when
that's
complete,
we
have
a
strong
plan
in
place
for
how
we
want
to
proceed
on
partitioning
our
tables
and
making
sure
we
understand
and
can
address
any
impacts.
A
And
so
that
is
what
this
issue
is
as
part
of
the
broader
post
res
partitioning
epoch.
Here,
you're
gonna
see
some
follow-on
things
like
implement,
cascading,
Deleasa,
foreign
keys
and
other
areas
that
we
need
to
think
about
for
partitioning
here
before
we
can
really
have
a
firm
plan
for
proceeding
forward.
A
So
to
summarize,
we're
working
on
some
key
foundational
work
to
enable
partitioning
in
time
for
in
time
with
getting
it
out
work
shortly
thereafter,
and
that
will
help
to
improve
performance
for
all
of
our
users
as
well
as
in
particular,
angular
comm,
which
is
grown
quite
large.
So
thank
you
for
listening
in
on
our
updates
for
12.9.
We
hope
you
are
excited
for
partitioning
to
come
to
the
git
Lab
database
drum
a
schema.
We
can't
wait
and
we
are
working
to
make
sure
we
can
bring
this
as
soon
as
possible
too.
