Description
Our MIT - Minorities in Tech TMRG will provide and overview of their group
A
B
A
The
purpose
of
the
mit
or
minorities
in
tech
tmrg
at
get
lab
is
to
basically
create
a
safe
space
for
folks
to
communicate,
unite
and
share
issues
that
are
reflective
of
their
experience
here
at
gitlab
and
also
in
the
world
in
general.
The
group
is
not
exclusionary
and
it's
open
to
anyone
who
is
a
gitlab
employee
and
we
started
back
in
the
fall
of
2019
and
have
grown
to
over
a
hundred
people
as
of
the
beginning
of
2021..
B
And
I
are
going
to
do
on
this
call
is
tell
you
a
little
bit
about
some
of
the
goals
that
were
accomplished
in
2020
with
our
specific
tmrg
and
then
tell
you
about
some
of
the
outlooks
and
goals
that
we
have
for
2021..
Now.
First,
in
2020,
we
had
four
specific
goals
that
we
were
looking
to
cover.
B
One
of
them
was
mentoring,
so
the
way
this
worked
was
that
eric
and
myself
and
darba
satcher
decided
to
create
a
mentoring
pilot
program
in
which
participants
of
the
mit
group
would
be
partnered
with
an
executive
in
a
particular
field
where
they
had
interest
so,
for
example,
sales
finance,
diversity,
inclusion,
engineering,
et
cetera.
B
What
we
did
was
then
pair
that
mentee
and
that
mentor
together
for
three
months
over
the
course
of
that
three
months
we
had
that
mentee
identify
a
particular
pain,
point
or
pain
for
gitlab
and
had
them
work
and
develop
an
actual
project
to
solve
this
particular
pain.
Point
at
the
end
of
the
program
there
were
18
projects
which
were
then
ultimately
completed
and
then
submitted
to
gitlab
one
of
the
second
goals
that
we
had
in,
covering
or
or
subcommittees.
Rather
was
social
events.
B
A
And
the
third
initiative,
and
also
subcommittee
that
we
had
this
year,
was
recruiting
and
retention
so
started
out
as
recruiting
and
we've
expanded
it
actually
to
retention
throughout
this
year,
so
that
we
can
focus
both
on
bringing
folks
in
to
the
organization
making
sure
that
we
have
a
diverse
team
and
then
also
making
sure
that
we
find
ways
to
keep
folks
that
are
in
get
lab
here.
Happy
and
feeling
as
though
they
can.
You
know,
move
up
and
have
a
place
at
the
company.
A
So
we've
actually
had
some
folks
in
our
organization,
like
lorna
webster,
who
is
on
the
recruiting
team
work
with
us
to
kind
of
come
up
with
initiatives
for
retention
and
recruiting
as
well
and
darfur
is
also
on
that
team.
And
then
from
there.
A
We
have
the
fourth
initiative,
which
is
internal
outreach,
and
that
is
to
essentially
evangelize
the
organization,
the
mit
group
within
the
organization
and
then
also
get
both
people
who
want
to
participate
as
a
person
who
identifies
as
a
minority,
but
also
folks
who
want
to
be
allies
to
join
our
meetings.
And
you
know
help
us
out
on
initiatives
and
also
to
get
leadership
involved
as
well.
So
those
are
the
four
main
points
that
we
worked
on
this
year
and
now
sharif
will
talk
about
our
outlook
for
2021..
Thank
you.
B
Once
again
erica,
so
as
we
now
enter
2021
on
top
of
what
we
did
in
2020,
all
those
things
will
continue,
but
there
may
be
a
more
heightened
focus
on
certain
things.
One
of
the
things
that
we
noticed
was
throughout
2020
was
that
our
group
expanded,
as
get
lab,
explained
expanded
right.
So
we
went
literally
from
about
having
15
members
to
over
100.
A
As
part
of
that,
we're
going
to
expand
it
into
a
buddy
program,
so
there's
going
to
be
an
opportunity
for
folks
to
get
synced
up
with
an
ally
within
the
organization
or
someone
that
they
kind
of
identify
more
with.
As
someone
to
have
as
a
confidant
and
somebody
to
have
someone,
as
you
know,
just
a
confidant
as
well
as
a
champion
for
them
and
someone
to
just
go
to
with
questions
or
concerns
or
things
that
they
may
not
feel
as
comfortable
speaking
about
in
a
larger
level.
