From YouTube: Practical Handbook Edits: Adding Images to GitLab
Description
Emilie Schario walks through when and how to upload images to the Handbook (and when to consider not doing so) along with other Handbook questions from the team. Find other helpful tips at https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/practical-handbook-edits/.

A
Not
particularly
easy
to
do,
but
the
person
to
talk
to
you
is
Shane
rice
on
the
growth
marketing
team,
about
docket
love.
Calm
is
chat,
attract
with
Google
Analytics,
so
he
pull
you
a
report
in
Google
Data
studio
and
share
it
with
you.
That
way,
like
let's
say
you
wanted
to
see
everything
under
slash
handbook,
slash
sales
and
kind
of
stack
rank
pages.
Based
on
that,
you
probably
help
you
with
that.
A
C
In
regards
to
that
I'm
curious
would
we
be
able
to
because
we
all
have
Google
Analytics
on
our
on
our
G
suite
I
played
with
it
before?
Would
we
be
able
to
put
a
Google
Analytics
tracking
code
into
like
the
top
of
a
handbook
page
to
track
for
internal
purposes
like
just
pageviews,
and
things
like
that?
We.
A
D
A
You
can
ping
Shane,
rice
and
and
get
that
the
other
option
is
the
data
team.
I'm
pretty
sure,
has
no
clout
on
the
marketing
sector.
They
could
also
pull
it
for
you,
but
Shane's
data
is
gonna,
be
a
little
bit
more
accurate,
so
big
caveat
here,
big
big,
big
asterisk
on
this
data,
is
that
the
general
stat
that's
used
in
kind
of
analytics
and
pageviews
and
on
web
analytics
in
general
is
that
20%
of
the
population
uses
ad
blocking
that
that
stops
this
track.
A
So
when
you
look
at
this
data,
you
want
to
suit
like
a
20
percent,
lift
on
whatever
you're
saying
forget,
lab,
given
our
existing
audience
and
that
the
team
members
tend
to
skew
technical,
it's
probably
even
higher
than
that.
So
what
is
easy
to
draw
conclusions
from
it's
like,
which
pages
are
most
seen
like
when
you
stack
rank
them?
That'll
still
be
true,
but
in
terms
of
like
how
many
people
actually
saw
this
page,
that's.
B
A
A
B
A
Yeah
great
question
so
I
think
the
answer
to
what
you're
saying.
Thank
you.
The
answer
to
what
you're
saying
is
I
would
say
yeah
like
if
it's
called
okay,
two
parts
to
this
one
there's
like
is
it
updated
and
if
it's
not
updated,
does
that
mean
it's
out
of
date,
not
necessarily
right
often,
and
so
that's
how
I
would
I
would
think
of
it.
I
know
that
there
has
been
discussion
around
like
putting
at
the
top
of
the
page
the
last
time
it
was
updated.
B
A
E
Other
topics
to
cover
today,
I
see
a
few
here.
Emily
maybe
pick
one
of
these
are,
but
when
and
how
to
add
images
to
the
handbook
how
to
utilize
the
collapse
feature.
What
would
you
like
to
tackle
today.
A
Then,
if
there's
time
we
can
talk
to
Ryan's
question
and
then
I
added
a
note
up
at
the
top
around
partials
and
I
do
want
to
get
a
pulse
on
this.
If
this
is
something
that
people
would
find
useful
because
then
we
could
talk
about
it
next
time,
but
we
can
do
that
at
the
end.
So
let's
talk
about
images
and
a
lot
of
times
what
I
hear
people
talk
about,
adding
images
to
the
handbook.
A
There
are
two
things
they're
thinking
one
is:
they
have
some
sort
of
visual
chart
like
a
flow
diagram
or
a
journey
map
that
they
want
to
include.
We
talked
about
mermaid
a
little
bit
in
that
called
whenever
that
was
with
Juliana
and
adding
mermaid
charts
to
the
handbook.
So
if
that's
the
use
case,
what
we
want
to
do
is
instead
lean
on
mermaid.
Why
would
we
prefer
more
made
over
an
image
because.
A
Well
and
it's
easier
to
update,
so
if
you,
for
example,
you
Tanuja
make
a
visual
and
it's
saved
in
a
deck
or
something
but
something
changes.
Someone
needs
to
find
an
original
source
of
information
to
update
the
graphic
and
then
get
it
in
the
handbook,
whereas
if
you
just
put
that
flowchart
in
the
handbook
or
a
diagram
or
whatever
your
use
cases,
it's,
that
is
the
single
source
of
truth.
So
that's
number
one
number
two
is
the
other
reason
people
want
to
add.
A
If
that's
the
case,
my
general
suggestion
there
is
that
instead,
you
embed
the
PowerPoint
in
the
handbook.
The
reason
for
that
is
because,
when
you
screenshot
the
slide
or
or
deck
or
whatever
it
might
be
in
the
handbook,
what
you
do
is
create
two
places
where
that
information
lives,
the
deck
and
in
the
handbook.
If
you
embed
the
slide
deck
in
the
handbook,
there's
only
one
place
which
is
in
the
slide
deck-
that's
in
the
handbook,
so
you
don't
have
to
duplicate
the
work.
B
F
F
Think
that
could
be
helpful,
but
I
do
see
what
you're
saying
it's
kind
of
a
catch-22
because
idea
what
you're
saying
about
like
the
efficiency
of
having
a
obviously
a
single
service
or
choose
yeah.
A
A
F
Mean
it
does
yeah
I
think
it
helps
with
a
dip,
but
in
a
different
way,
like
I
think
it
helps
make
it
a
little
bit
more
like
friendly
to
the
eye
right
by
like
breaking
it
up.
But
when
you
talk
about
like
having
a
visual
aid
to
like
help
summarize,
you
know
mean
like
information
like
a
large
amount
of
information
or
like
text
text
information,
that's
below
I,
don't
know
if
it
necessarily
solves
that
yeah.
A
That
makes
sense
to
me.
I
think
I
can
think
of
a
couple
examples
where
we
have
like
on
the
some
of
the
pages
in
the
all
remote
handbook.
We
talk
about
how
you
formalize
informal
communication,
the
marketing
team
did
a
talent
show
in
case
any
of
you
may
or
may
not
have
heard,
like
Todd
worse
who
died.
Apparently,
there
was
like
miming
I,
don't
know
that
details
on
it,
but
they
have
an
actual
picture
of
it
in
the
handbook.
A
If
you
run
through
a
checklist
of
like
do
we
now
duplicate
information
by
adding
this
image
and
do
we
create
the
potential
for
the
original
source
of
this
to
get
lost
if
we
do
duplicate
the
information
and
if
you
run
through
that
and
you're
like
no,
this
image
is
the
source
of
information,
or
it's
worth
having
this
so
that
this
contents
were
consumable.
That's
great
I
think.
B
I
also
want
to
maybe
talk
about
Emily
like
what,
if
we
have
everything
right
now,
and
that
is
the
way
that
we
communicate,
but
a
person
doesn't
just
learn
by
reading
they're
gonna
learn
by
like
and
reading,
and
maybe
a
video
like
I
mean
so
there's
like
different
ways.
Learners
learn
right
so
like
how
do
we
definitely.
A
I
think
so,
like
that's,
where
they're
embedding
into
the
handbook
it
just.
It
is
easiest
to
add
text
to
the
handbook
right,
but
all
these
other
forms
of
communication.
We
also
want
to
make
sure
they're
also
making
their
way
into
the
handbook.
So
if
that's
embedding
a
video
or
linking
to
a
YouTube
video,
if
it's
private,
adding
a
diagram
to
walk
people
through
like
I,
was
reading
a
section
of
the
handbook
this
morning
that
didn't
make
any
sense
to
me
at
all.
Until
I
saw
the
mermaid
diagram
below
it
was
like.
A
Oh
okay,
like
now
that
I've
seen
where
this
flow
chart
is
going.
I
can
go
back
and
reread
things
and
they
make
sense
and
I'm
a
reader
first
and
so
I
think
the
way
I've
seen
it
handled
well
and
we
as
a
company,
don't
do
this
great
across
the
board,
is
presenting
the
same
information
in
multiple
mediums
through
the
handbook.
Now,
there's
a
lot
of
like
risky
parts
of
that
an
example.
A
I
can
think
of
the
team
that,
like
the
team
in
the
people
group
that
maintains
the
job
families
page,
they
went
step
by
step
and
created
a
video
that
walks
people
through.
Like
here's
exactly
what
you
need
to
do,
then
they
did
the
same
thing.
They
created
a
PowerPoint
slide
so
that
people
could
like
watch
the
video
and
then
follow
the
PowerPoint
slide
step
by
step
by
step,
and
then
the
process
changed
and
like
the
video
in
the
PowerPoint
slide
became
outdated.
B
A
F
Yeah,
that
makes
sense
so
just
and
kind
of,
like
we
talked
like
using
it
like.
The
text
remains
a
single
source
of
truth,
but
more
using
any
kind
of
visual,
as
just
that,
like
a
visual
aid
and
like
would
it
help?
Would
you
see
it
helping
like
as
a
best
practice?
Would
it
always
be
best
so
say
we
do
build
some
kind
of
diagram
that
you're
not
able
to
build
and
I
made
a
chart
right
and
we
want
to
link
to
it
like.
A
Something
I
think
so
so
we
do
have.
We
don't
link
directly
to
Google
Drive
files
in
the
handbook,
because
we
don't
want
people
to
request
access
to
things
that
are
internal,
even
though
we
say
hey
like
you
know,
people
make
mistakes
and
we
just
want
to
avoid
the
situation.
So
we
link
to
the
search
results.
So
the
way
to
do
that,
if
you
just
pull
up
Google
Drive-
and
let's
say
there
was
an
AMA
today
with
said
right.
A
If
this
doc
were
in
the
Google
Drive,
you
would
search
AMA
since
the
brandy
and
link
to
the
search
results
not
to
the
actual
doc,
but
I
think
you're
spot
on
Monica.
That
when
you
say
add
that
piece
of
information
that
visual
you
want
to
also
accompany
it
to
like,
and
here's
where
the
single
source
of
truth
for
this
list.
A
A
Okay,
so
we
are
with
this
page
in
the
handbook,
we're
gonna
add
this
image
to
the
bottom:
we're
gonna
scroll
to
the
bottom
hit
web
IDE.
This
is
still
my
preferred
preference,
though
the
static
site
editors
team
is
doing
lots
of
cool
things
to
make
it
easier
to
update
the
handbook,
so
this
might
get
better
or
a
different
workflows.
You'll
also
notice
I
have
dark
mode
enabled
on
the
web
IDE.
A
A
So
the
first
thing
we
want
to
do
here:
let's
go
ahead
and
commit
the
mr
add
image
section
to
the
it's,
because
we're
gonna
touch
multiple
files
in
this.
Mr
so
I
like
to
create
the
mr
early
just
so
it's
easier
to
come
back
to
in
case
you
end
up
losing
yourself.
So
let's
go
get
live,
calm
assign
this
to
me,
so
I
don't
lose
it
great.
A
A
So
one
thing
about
editing
the
handbook:
a
lot
of
it
comes
down
to
like
memorizing,
the
different
commands
and
the
different
classes
and
the
different
sections
like
what
there
is
a
lot
of
memorization
involved
and
I,
don't
like
to
memorize
things,
but
I
like
to
remember
where
things
are
in
the
handbook
that
I
can
reference.
So
I
know
that
there
are
a
couple
images,
not
that
link.
A
A
A
This
is
important
in
keeping
the
handbook
accessible,
friendly,
so
picture
of
study
group
and
then
the
other
thing
we
want
to
do
is
think
about
the
path
of
the
image.
So
when
we
go
to
this
page
in
the
handbook,
we
can
see
the
URL
and
when
we
reference
it,
this
is
the
section
that
we
would
reference
in
making
links
across
the
handbook.
So
this
is
the
path
for
the
image.
So
if
we
come
here,
we
would
do
the
same
thing.
A
A
Is
what
I
like
best
practice
and
does
it
make
your
life
easier?
Yes,
practice
is
know
you're
supposed
to
put
it
in
the
pictures
folder.
In
my
experience
that
leads
to
people
not
knowing
where
the
pictures
went,
yeah
so
I
think
it's
easier
to
just
put
it
in
the
same
folder
as
the
page
or
building,
but
tomato
potato
do
whatever
cool.
So
we
just
added
the
image,
I'm
gonna,
add
image
and
add
to
page.
We
can
see
that
there
are
two
changes
in
this
commit
we
added
the
image,
and
now
we
updated
the
page.
A
A
D
Gonna
ask
it
my
question:
is
there
a
second
so
the
kinds
of
like
open
source
there's
this
code
and
that's
what
we
run
our
whole
business
on,
like
I,
might
have
reference
a
page
and
it
still
sitting
in
my
head.
I,
remember:
I,
wasn't
supposed
to
say,
get
lappers.
Well,
that's
changed
because
yesterday
there
was
something
that
happened
somewhere
in
a
slack
channel.
I
can't
find
that
can
I
just
track
something
great.
A
So
one
of
the
things
that
so
many
people
contributing
to
it
is
that
you
do
have
to
like
kind
of
know
where
to
go
get
the
information
you
are
interested
in.
There
are
a
couple
of
ways
to
keep
up
to
date
on
the
handbook.
One
is
by
following:
what's
called
the
change
log,
so
I
don't
know
that
URL
off
the
top
of
my
head,
but
I'll
pull
it
up.
So
the
change
log
is
essentially
a
list
of
all
the
changes
that
are
happening
through
the
handbook
every
day.
A
D
D
A
D
A
A
Be
respectful
of
people's
times
we're
a
minute
over,
but
thanks
so
much
folks,
I
hope
it
was
useful
and
just
I
want
to
take
a
pulse.
So
a
partial
is
something
that
lets.
You
update,
multiple
sections
of
the
handbook
with
the
same
information
but
store
that
information
in
one
place
is
that
something
that
would
be
useful
to
run
through
creating
next
time.
A
Okay,
so
we
have,
for
example,
okay,
are
some
kpi's
have
a
relationship
with
each
other,
and
we
might
want
to
have
that
extra
lip
explained
on
the
ok,
our
page
and
the
KPI
page.
We
don't
want
to
have
to
actually
have
that
block
on
two
separate
pages
where
we
have
to
maintain
it.
Another
example
might
be
in
career
ladders,
where
you
talk
about
moving
from
a
senior
to
a
staff
role.
