Description
This a video message to students who will be taking the upcoming GitLab Advanced Software Engineering Course
A
Hello,
my
name
is
darva
satcher
and
I
am
a
proud
alumna
of
spelman
college
class
of
1996..
Today,
I'm
coming
to
you
with
an
idea
that
I
had
with
my
company
I
work
for
gitlab.
I
am
a
senior
manager
for
the
development
organization
and
we've
decided
to
partner
with
morehouse,
along
with
spelman
and
clark,
to
teach
a
course
in
advanced
software
engineering.
A
All
right,
as
I
mentioned
before,
this
is
a
partnership
between
morehouse
college
and
get
lab.
I
know
some
of
this
is
obvious
to
you,
but
this
was
also
the
set
of
slides
that
I
use
for
gitlab,
spelman,
college
and
clark
atlanta
university
are
also
included
in
this
effort.
A
As
part
of
the
course
we
plan
on
showing
you
various
career
videos,
these
are
pre-recorded
videos
which
are
actually
interviews
of
get
lab
team
members
who
have
different
paths
from
the
university
all
the
way
up
until
their
jobs
now
with
get
lab
so
we're
hoping
that
as
they
share
their
experiences
with
you,
you'll
learn
about
different
pathways
to
software
development
positions.
A
The
goals,
so
our
goals
are
to
diversify
the
recruiting
pipeline
to
provide
get
lab
team
members
with
the
experience
and
opportunity
to
contribute
outside
of
the
company.
A
Now,
what
are
the
objectives
and
benefits
for
you?
You
will
gain
experience
using
the
gitlab
product,
which
I
mentioned
before,
is
a
commonly
used
software
development
tool.
Students
will
learn
how
to
apply
concepts
that
they
learn
in
the
classroom
to
actual
real
world
problems.
A
You'll
also
learn
the
skill
sets
required
to
work
in
a
remote
environment
which
all
of
us
find
ourselves
in
right
now,
and
students
will
be
better
prepared
to
apply
for
internships
and
job
opportunities
both
inside
and
outside
of
get
lab.
I
will
say
that
for
those
who
have
participated
in
internship
programs,
they've
looked
at
the
course
curriculum
for
this
course
and
thought
that
they
were
very
similar
to
the
types
of
things
they
would
actually
learn
in.
A
So
the
logistics,
the
course
will
be
100
remote
git
lab,
is
actually
a
100
remote
company
already.
So
this
is
an
area
we
excel
in
the
course
starts
next
week
and
ends
in
may,
as
do
all
of
your
other
courses,
you're
familiar
with
courses
that
are
tuesdays
and
thursdays
from
5
15
to
6
30,
and
there
will
be
a
gitlab
team
member
teaching
all
the
lectures.
