Today, we'll see how we can connect the gitlab agent with the google kubernetes engine cluster,.

A

And see how well integrated the two platforms are. we'll see how easy it is.

A

But let me introduce you what gitlab is.

A

Gitlab is the devops platform which combines the ability to develop, secure and operate software.

A

In a single application that is easier to use and leads to faster cycle, time.

A

Thanks to gitlab's native functionality, with kubernetes, connecting the gitlab agent to.

A

Gke is a very straightforward process. as a matter of fact,. It will only take three steps.

A

The first step is creating an agent configuration file;. The second step is.

A

Registering the agent with gitlab; and the final step is installing the agent in the cluster.

A

Before we begin, we need two things in place:. The first one is an existing gitlab project.

A

With the kas or kubernetes agent, server installed,, this could either be an existing.

A

Gitlab.Com instance, or a self-managed gitlab instance.. The second is an existing gke cluster.

A

Now,, let's kick things off by creating the configuration file for the gitlab.

A

Agent. on the screen, you'll see this gitlab project. I had created.

A

To create that file, I will click the web ide button in here.

A

Which will bring me to the web ide where I can create and edit files in the project repository.

A

The first step I will do is create that specific folder for the agent.

A

I will click this new directory icon here and indicate the location.. The location is.

A

.Gitlab/Agents/ and then the agent name for this demo--, it's gitlab-gke-demo,.

A

And hit the create directory.. This is now the directory where we will create that yaml file.

A

This yaml file will contain the configurations for the agent,.

A

And I can create that by hovering over the new directory that I just created,.

A

And then this three buttons icon after clicking will show this new file option, and hit new file.

A

The name of the file is config.yaml.

A

Take note of the spelling--: it's y-a-m-l. then hit create file.for. This demo,.

A

We will stop with a blank config.yaml and we will click "create commit.".

A

Now that the configuration file is done,, we move on to the next part,.

A

Which is to register the gitlab agent with the kubernetes cluster.

A

To do that from the project page go to the navigation and then look for infrastructure.

A

And from there select kubernetes clusters.

A

In that new page, click, the "connect, a cluster" button on the top right section.

A

A dialog will be displayed, and from here select from the drop down the name of the agent we had.

A

Created a while ago. click, register. new information will be displayed in a dialog,.

A

Which is the agent access token and then the installation script using helm.

A

Save this information on a file, or click the copy command to put that into memory,.

A

Which you will then use at the google cloud console.

A

I've now switched to the google cloud console to finalize the installation of.

A

The agent. I've navigated to the kubernetes cluster page,.

A

And now it shows the cluster I had created a while ago--. It is standard cluster.

A

I will navigate to the edge of that row to expose the three buttons link here and select connect,.

A

Some connection information is displayed here.. I will then select run in cloud shell.

A

In cloud shell,, I'm waiting, and this command is pre-filled.. I will hit enter.

Good, now I am connected to the kubernetes cluster and from there I.

A

Will paste the helm command? I had created a while ago, (or generated a while ago).

A

Let's wait for this command to complete.

A

And now it's done. heading back to the gitlab project,. We can see that the.

A

Agent and the cluster are now connected,, as shown by this connected status on the page.

A

And with that, you saw me connect the gitlab agent with the google kubernetes.

Cluster with three steps: first is to create the configuration file;.

A

Second, is to register the agent, and finally, it's to install that agent on the cluster.

A

Once connected,, you will be able to manage, deploy and monitor your.

A

Cloud native solutions on google cloud with gitlab.
