From YouTube: Pushing multiple commits to a single branch/merge request using the GitLab WebIDE

Description

When new to GitLab it is common to end up creating multiple branches/merge requests when you're trying to combine several changes into a single merge request.

This video gives a quick run through of how to update an existing branch/merge request using the WebIDE.

Forgive the audio quality, I was using the inbuilt microphone on my laptop.

How to push several changes to the same, merge request, (using the webide).

Say we're on this handbook page and notice a typo.!

We go into the webide to make a change.

A

So... ok, we spelt security, wrong.

A

So... we say we want to create a commit.

A

Because this is the first change we're making,. We want to create a new branch.

A

We might call it, fix-security-typo., so we want a new branch, and a new merge. Request.

A

We've then got our merge request.

A

And,, maybe we notice another typo,, another change. We want to make.

So this time,, instead of going directly from the webpage (handbook) from here (which, is.

A

The master branch) to the webide, we're going to go from our merge request to the webide.

A

And we can see down the bottom, we're on our merge request, and we are going to fix another.

and we also find on the okr page,. Perhaps we want to make a small change on here as.

Well., so this time,, when we come to create our commit,, we can see we're not on the master branch.

(We're on our new security, typo branch).

A

So we don't need to create a new branch, and we don't need to start a new merge. Request.

Push that commit.

A

and we can click back onto our merge, request.

A

And we'll now see the changes on this merge request with our security, typo, principles.
