Community activist Kevin Booker, Jr. moderates a community panel discussion addressing the themes and ideas presented in the book, The Hate U Give by author Angie Thomas. The panelists will share their personal narratives of prejudice, class, race, and their journeys of self-discovery.

spirit
as
human
beings
and
it
affects
a
lot
of
our
young
children
and
affects
our
children

for
some
reason
it
continues

breed
generation

generation.

know
the
voiceless,

movie
that
hit
you
give
was
vet

excellent

I
would
say.
I
could
definitely
relate
to
the
character
star,
because
there's
many
issues
and
points
that
are
made
and
I'm
different,
just
in
different
like
tangible
ways.

first
point
that

noticed
was
the
code-switching
and
for
those
that
might
not
know
code-switching
is
for,
as
for
at
least
me
for
other
people
of
color
is
to
survive
through
white
spaces,
so
in
the
movie
star
had
to
act
a
certain
way
on
her
private
school,
where
her
majority
white
peers
she
had
to
act.
She
didn't
want
to
be
the
stereotype.
She
didn't
wanna,
be
the
stereotype
or
be
the
known
as
like
the
ghetto
black
girl,
but
she
had
to
act
a
certain
way
change
your
vocabulary.

change

order

can

prove
like
those

notions

her
people

by
her
race
that
she's
got

isn't

and

home

family

fifth
grade,
graduation
pick

the

day

kids

supporting
each
other
and

was
happening
in
the

teachers.

this
book
and
I
said
this
earlier.
It's
almost
like
it's
a
modern
mockingbird
for
me
to
kill
a
mockingbird

book
gives

this
amazing
description
of
this
community,
the
good
and
the
bad,

how
she
was
affected
by
it.

family,
just

Mockingbird,
does

she
awakens
to
what
she
needs
to

she

saw
both
sides.

had

loved

the

community

kind

listening

involved

movement

many
problems

living

many
walls
and

our
own
country

to
break
down.

discussions
we
need
more
of
this,

more
cultural.

group

say
they
were
ignorant,

there
was

lot

misunderstanding

enough

roommate

handle

this

growth

seeing

and

thought

how

supposed
to
act,

this

society
was

bothering

be

read

They
made
her
lie
skin

would
appeal
more
to.

don't
show
him
getting
into
altercation

the

that
shot
the

don't
show
like
his
struggle
with

love
for

just
one-sided.

forget
is

been
