This video was created for Trails Day 2021. It highlights the Mortimer Wright Preserve Trail located at 360 Groton Long Point Road (rt. 215). The trail is part of the X-Town Trail and links up to Haley Farm State Farm to the southwest and to the Merritt Family Farm to the north.

Vernal pools, ponds and streams with marsh marigolds are everywhere. Glacial features such as this ridge can be seen over the avalonian proterozoic metamorphic and igneous rocks, which are over 600 million years old.

The ecosystem hosts a central hardwoods and hemlock forest with about a dozen common tree species with maple black birch, hemlock, beech and oak being most common.

The forest is in recovery, phase, impacted by past farming practices, development and now invasive species, but wildlife follows groton's, green spaces, so you might be joined by local critters.
