From YouTube: Financial Inclusion: How DLT Provides Hope For 1.7 Billion Unbanked People - Matthew Davie, Kiva

Description

There are 1.7 billion unbanked adults around the globe -- they lack even a basic savings account. However, they are served by a network of microfinance institutions (MFIs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who provide them with basic financial services on the ground. To date, the data generated by these entities has not been leveraged to drive financial inclusion. Kiva is building and implementing an identity and credit history platform in Sierra Leone that federates this data and makes it usable by the broader financial services sector. Matthew will discuss Kiva's 13-year history of operating in the unbanked world, the path to bringing decentralized digital identity and credit history to areas with no internet connectivity, and the ecosystem that must develop to bring broad financial inclusion globally by 2030.
