In this session, Ariel Gentile, Berend Sliedrecht and Karim Stekelenburg will share the 0.4.0 release of Aries Framework JavaScript. The demo will include what's new in AFJ and through the lens of a well-defined use case, they will lead you through the steps of setting up an agent, connecting it to a ledger, and issuing and verifying credentials. By the end, you will be able to use your own cloud agent to issue a credential to a holder, which in turn creates a proof of a credential that your cloud agent can verify. This demo is aimed at everyone that has worked with JavaScript/TypeScript in the past. Specific knowledge with Aries Framework JavaScript or self-sovereign identity is not required.
For more information about the Aries Framework JavaScript 0.4.0 release, check out the blog post at:

Demo: Aries Bifold, Batteries Included - Akiff Manji, Petri Dish Development Inc. & Clecio Varjao, Province of British Columbia
Aries Bifold is an open-source, community-driven mobile wallet for the verifiable credential (VC) ecosystem. In the first half of this talk, Akiff will showcase work that has been accomplished over the last year on the project and demonstrate key features of the wallet such as receiving and storing VCs, using VCs to prove identity and peer-to-peer messaging with other Aries agents. In the second half of the talk, Clecio will demonstrate how Bifold has been leveraged as a framework by the Province of British Columbia to create a wallet specifically for BC, how the same approach is used by other provinces within Canada and how you can also configure your own version of the wallet. The talk will end with planned future improvements and features, something you definitely will not want to miss.

This technical workshop will get you completely up to speed on what is happening in the world of self-sovereign identity development. Specifically, you will learn everything there is to know about Hyperledger Aries Framework JavaScript, an all batteries included toolkit for exchanging verifiable credentials. In recent times, this framework had evolved a lot due to active community involvement and EU funding. It is now one of the most mature tools in the Aries ecosystem. Aries Framework JavaScript specializes in multiplatform development and accessibility for developers starting out in the world of self-sovereign identity.
During this 1.5 hour workshop, Berend and Karim from Animo Solutions will go over the primary focal points of the framework as well as its current capabilities. They will give an overview of the roadmap ahead, with demonstrations of some of the solutions that have been built using the framework. After this, they will demonstrate how it feels to work with the framework by doing a live coding session.
You will enjoy this workshop if you are interested in self-sovereign identity, Web 3 tech stacks, open source development, JavaScript/TypeScript, Multiplatform development and practical tech-minded meet-ups.
More about the Aries Framework JavaScript is at: https://wiki.hyperledger.org/display/ARIES/Aries+Framework+JavaScript

Hyperledger Aries and Indy are open source projects that can be used to create and use independent digital identities rooted on blockchains or other distributed ledgers. In this video, Ken Ebert, CTO of Indicio.tech, explains more about what digital identities are, why they're important, and what is happening in the Hyperledger community around this topic.
Ken will also be one of the instructors at two free 4-hour long workshops focused on Hyperledger Aries and Indy happening in early 2022. If you're interested in learning more about digital identities and how to use Hyperledger Aries and Indy to build identity solutions, you're welcome to sign up for the workshops. Note that space is limited and spots are filling up fast.

Ask the Expert: Practical Hyperledger Aries Deployments in Enterprise and Government Environments - Stephen Curran, Cloud Compass Computing Inc. & John Jordan, Province of British Columbia
What’s involved in deploying real-world, live projects that use Verifiable Credentials and Hyperledger Aries in an enterprise environment? The Government of British Columbia (BC), Canada has put considerable effort into understanding, deploying, and simplifying these Digital Trust technologies. Their projects go across government and beyond, with several enterprise partnerships and collaborations. Major open-source contributions to Hyperledger Indy and Aries have been made along the way. Three experts that lead the Digital Trust projects in BC will be available to discuss what’s been accomplished, share what’s been learned that can help others, and answer business, legislation, policy, and (light) technical questions about deploying verifiable credentials for tangible, real-world benefit.
To learn more about Hyperledger, the open source community focused on developing a suite of stable frameworks, tools and libraries for enterprise-grade blockchain deployments. Traversing the Web of Trust using Hyperledger Aries - Stephen Curran, Cloud Compass Computing Inc.
In early 2018, we wrote this explainer(1) on “traversing the web of trust”, a process that a verifier receiving a verifiable credential presentation uses to decide if they sufficiently “trust” the issuer of the credential to complete a transaction. The cryptography part of verifying the presentation is relatively easy, but deciding if the issuer can be trusted gets into the messy world of human trust. For example, how does an airline checking in passengers know if they can trust the presentation of a COVID-19 vaccination verifiable credential? We’ll go over the “web of trust” concept and survey the central and decentralized mechanisms that are in place now and are planned using Hyperledger Aries to help verifiers make trust decisions about the verifiable presentations they receive. Hyperledger Indy & Aries and the Spatial Web for Nesting Carbon Accounting - Martin Enrique Wainstein, Yale Open Innovation Lab & David Thomson, Verses
The Yale Openlab, the Open Earth Foundation and the Verses teams will provide a demonstration of the Open Climate platform efforts, showcasing how distributed ledger technologies (DLT) frameworks, like Hyperledger Indy and Aries, alongside next-gen spatial web protocols can be leveraged to establish nested jurisdictional accounting of climate actions via digital assets. This presentation will continue into a panel discussion around the relevance and application of Hyperledger frameworks in the climate context, including opportunities identified from the Climate Action and Accounting SIG. With verifiable, trusted and context-aware carbon data assets as a core element, the demo will propose and discuss how to achieve interoperability of climate markets and allow cross-jurisdictional trading whilst avoiding double counting.

How Hyperledger Fabric and Hyperledger Aries are Helping to Bring Control and Trust Back to Digital Identity - Dmitry Barinov, SecureKey Technologies
As technology has continued to advance at an accelerated rate and people are uploading more and more of their lives online, many common methods of identity authentication haven’t kept up with the pace. The result of relying on the current singular modes of authentication has been an increase in breached records and declining faith in organizations to have the right protocols in place to safeguard sensitive information effectively. We have the tools to fix this; all that’s missing is the right approach that will bring privacy and stability back to digital identity.
Fortunately, the world is starting to see actual action being taken to address the digital identity problem head on. Earlier this year, a first-of-its-kind, blockchain-based digital identity network launched in Canada. The network leverages both the trusted organizations involved and the strong technological frameworks used to build it—including Hyperledger Fabric—to enable consumers to help verify their identities quickly and securely to access services and products.
In this session, Dmitry will explain how this network formed, how its launch marks a step forward in how we will improve digital identity, as well as lessons learned so far and where to go from here. He will also then get into the more technical details and explain how Hyperledger Fabric and Aries interop play fundamental roles in enabling the private and secure sharing of information to take place.
