Demo: How Hyperledger Fabric Moves Charity to an Absolutely New Level of Trust - Olga Ilina & Artem Barger, Non-Profit Organization IDEAS

Charity plays a significant role in our society and is considered by many people as the most common way to repay our social debt.

The Karma project is a blockchain-based charity foundation platform that facilitates the trustful network's formation and is accountable for collecting donation funds. Karma platform introduces a blockchain-based solution that allows participants to supervise, manage and control all the platform's processes.

The blockchain network is comprised of publicly known, trustful, and prestigious organizations. All organizations' operations within the platform are fully transparent and visible, leveraging properties of immutability, provenance, and non-repudiation. Therefore the platform alleviates the results of dishonest actions, revealing fraudulent organizations' activities.

The blockchain-based Karma platform is implemented on top of Hyperledger Fabric and appears as a social apparatus that allows charity fonds to manage and maintain their projects, accept donations and share auditable public trail of all activities within the platform.

So uh today, I'm going to tell you how hyperledger fabric can move a charity to a principal, a new level of trust.

um So let me say a few words regarding background of our system. So uh what is the platform about? So the karma project is a charity Foundation platform based on hyperledger fabric. It is uh developed for fundraising and it brings charity to a new level because of new level of trust.

So this is a platform with really big charity funds. This is about building air ecosystem and of really trusted funds and, like it's, a sort of consorture, so key challenges that we are facing with the classic one fundraising systems. So, first of all, it's like a transparency.

uh You don't able to get all the information you want and you feel like you know it will be absolutely clear but you're not getting this information, and you start to feel uncomfortable with this- that you are not controlling the way of this information and the way of money, how they spend it.

uh The fraud by some really bad organizations and, of course, inability to track the way of all this transaction I mean from the very beginning when somebody needs help and you're giving money to this person or project or a charity foundation, and then how they're spending it and the results in a typical, classical system right now, you're, for example, uh able only to give someone help and then see like nice pictures that you, for example, uh somebody got some medicine or some operation, and so on. So what benefits this system gives because of blockchain.

So, first of all, it will be able to bring principal a new principle in new users who not believe in classic charity funds right now in a classic system, and the second important point that we think that this kind of system are able to invite a younger generation.

It was a problem and it's still a problem right now that people from 20 to 30 years old. They don't have um how to say a culture of a regular charity as an older generations, and it's a really big problem. Right now for charity organizations and they're working on it and the most important thing to know about it that it's not a principle new way and we want to avoid, for example, classic one systems. No, it's a complementary way to improve the way people are getting fundraising and so on.

So a few words about interaction models and what participants do we have on the platform? So we have a philanthropist who donates funds for people who need help for people for projects for charitable foundations. We have this chair charitable foundations who are organizing fundraising for projects and people who need help. We help bank or bank service providers who guarantine spending of money and who providing us information regarding this spending and we have beneficiaries people who need this help.

Potentially for the next releases of the platform, we are planning to connect service companies and medical institutions who will be able to provide information regarding the final stage of spending on this platform. So how donation approaches? Look like on the platform? First of all, the beneficiary places an application for assistance on the platform that the person needs help. Then there are some check from on the side of funds. They reviews this application and in case that everything is okay.

They're taking this on board then raises a fundraising project on the platform and after collection is completed, defined with rose money and then ordering targeted services or products or what else is required and after that, as I mentioned before, service companies and medical institutions provide data on this funds pens and it really improves the process and after that system, of course, automatically generates reports, and um so, let's move to demo how it looks right now, it will be easier to show it on video and I'll provide some of my comments.

So um this is the marketplace of the projects. I'll be putting it on stop, maybe a little bit. So at the top of this we can see the most urgent projects for we, for which we need help urgently. We have some different directions of projects, so we have help for children, for adults, for older person for animals and some information regarding fonts. So returning back to a project, so we're going on a first one to help this dog. For example, it's a test, so we have our information regarding this project.

We have information regarding uh people who already helped and so on. So this is a Health page and taking amount now it's available in Rebels or in dollars. We are providing amount of money that we want to put. We provide in our email and we are specifying. Is it a one-time help or we want to do it on a basis?

So right now we have a service provide payment service provided Cloud payments, so this is a test transaction, so we already have integration with them, but this is a test card, and after that we are generating a call for the API and we can generate a positive or negative transaction as we want in future. Of course, for sure it will be a real one transaction, so we're providing a number of cards or old, necessary data and then email.

And yeah, and after that pain and as I mentioned before here, we are specifying do we want to make it successful or unsuccessful transaction I am taking successful transaction and after that, I would like to show you how it looks in blockchain explorer that it's real uh right now we have still the same amount, so we will go to our Explorer, but first of all, I would like to show your uh email that I got from the fund yeah.

This is a new one, so this is the completion of this transaction successfully from the perspective of bank service provider. So returning back to health Explorer, so we can see this last blocks last transactions and last events- and we already can see our transaction for this money transfer here. So let's go in transactions yeah. This is karma core enemy transaction and let's go inside yeah.

So here we can see the amount of money and all this information uh yeah and after that we will return to where a user page on the marketplace page and then we can see that amount have changed.

So this is uh the main functionality that I want you to show. Of course, it's bigger, there's some information regarding fonts. There are different types of fundraising: I mean you are able to support, not only concrete project but you're able to support funds. If you want some charity organizations, because it's every time, it's an issue to support this fund. So what uh the main things I would like to mention.

Finally, so first of all, charity platform based on a blockchain can significantly increase the amount of money we're able to collect for charity organizations first of all Karma. Secondly, sorry Karma project demonstrates the novel approach when we Implement permissions blockchain for a public charity platform.

The third thing that was really important because we make a really great research and we got a feedback from quite a lot of Charity foundations. So this platform meets high standards of accessibility.

So it's not only about people who need help, but for people who is helping as well, because we all different- and we have all um how to say all of us- have a really different level of capabilities for using platform, and it was really really important for us to support all people to use this platform and the last but not least, it's really crucial for us to provide correct message about blockchain. To avoid your community I mean you are not able just to say it's blockchain, just Believers.

We are paying a lot of attention for this and we are planning to live some kind of educational section on the platform to provide, like you, know, nice, videos explaining why blockchain is important and why uh blockchain can help with these approaches and the last thing that I would like to mention.

Outcomes of the project in this big departments, so if you yeah for sure so, the idea here is to build and trusted ecosystem and to connect some, how to say great validators on the network. So first of all, it will be operator of the platform and which can grant you know the the normal work of this platform with uh all these transactions and the flutter and so on. And secondly, we are going to invite. As I mentioned, uh charity really trusted charity organizations to be validators as well.

I mean uh two or three at the beginning, but after that or maybe we will have more of them on the platform and they will guarantee this correct. Working transactions.
