Description

A project funded by Internet Society's Beyond the Net Funding Programme. The livestock transhumance in Senegal is done in several areas and more specifically in the sylvo-pastorale areas located in the Ferlo’s region where it is difficult or impossible to communicate with terrestrial communication systems. The main reason is due to the existence of white spots. A white spot is defined as a no cellular coverage area.
To overcome the presence of white spot satellite communications can be used. However, in underserved areas, satellite communications are very expensive for people.
Therefore, we propose a low-cost communication for rural population such as breeders, farmers based on long range radio communication within ISM (Industrial, Science and Medical) bands. It is worth noticing that the ISM band is free. The proposed autonomous mobile mesh network is developed by breeders to lead livestock's, in a safe manner, where grass and water points are available. Our main goal is to encourage activities that can generate financial returns for rural population by preserving the environment.

My name is moussa diallo. I am the mother of anthony society and associate professor at the polytechnic superior school of dakar. Our project called toufik aims to make instant communication possible in white areas of which, that is to say areas without any coverage of terrorist networks.

It should be known that in Senegal the transhumance carried out in very vast areas, especially in the sylvopastoral area donval located in the ferlo, and these areas have a tooth. This very weak population and a good part is not covered by land communications, as can be seen in the figure. A good part of the ferlo is made up of white areas, and the breeders in these areas have no means of communicating understood. It would be possible to use satellite communications, but the purchasing power of these populations in these areas,, which is anchored,, is limited,.

It will be complicated for them to have access to its satellite telephony services, and that is why we embarked on this project called gauche is financed by the internet society and the idea is to implement a network that we are going to design ourselves allowing and the lovers via smartphones to communicate with each other.
