catalyst.
Our
first
ever
public
fund
created
to
support
community
innovation
for
cardano
now,
project
catalyst
is
an
experiment
in
innovation
and
one
for
the
whole
community,
but
we
wouldn't
be
here
today
if
it
wasn't
for
the
efforts
of
a
small
group,
a
core
group
of
50
community
volunteers
who've
been
helping
bring
this
to
life
over
the
summer
and
putting
all
the
building
blocks
in
place
for
today.

first
off,
thank

everybody
all
those
volunteers,
many
of
whom
are
joining

So
this
is
the
next
stage
of
the
journey
we're
now
getting
into
and
the
chance
for
everyone
to
get
involved.

do
a
couple
of
brief
introductions
really
in
a
moment

handing
over
to

leading
this
project
from
the

for
the
last

short
amount

of
the
adherents.

consequence
of
the
instantaneous
movement
of
information
and
bitcoin,
gave
us
the
ability
to
instantaneously
move
value.
Ethereum
gave
us

ability
to
actually
put
a
programming
language
on
top
of
that
and
unlock
the
imagination
of
thousands
of
entrepreneurs
so
that
they
can
bring
the

revolution
and
have
a
broader
discussion
about
our
place
in
this
global
economy.
But
what
really
cardano
does
differently
than
all
of
these
other
systems?
We
have
the
blockchain
stuff.

have
the
smart
contracts
stuff.
We
are
keenly
aware
of
the
necessity
to
empower
the
people
at
the
bottom
of
the
rum
and
to
give
each
and
every
person
a
voice,
or
at
least
an
opportunity
to
have
a
voice
if
they
so
choose
about.
Where
does
the
system
go?
How
does
the
system
maintain
priorities
and
preferences?

Governments
do
this
with
think
tanks,
and
we
are
no
different
in
that
respect.
You
see
when
we
constructed
cardano,
we
didn't
set
out
just
to
build
the
best
cryptocurrency
we
set
out
to
build
the
world's
first
true
new
financial
operating
system
since
the
bretton
woods
accords
in
1944,
and
we
said
to
accomplish
that.
We
can
only
do
that
together,
no
matter
how
brilliant
the
scientists
I
hire
are.
The
engineers
who
work
with
us
happen
to
be.

None
of
them
are
collectively
more
brilliant
than
all
of
you,
especially
if
you've
been
engaged
in
the
right
ways.
So,
over
six
months
ago,
we
brought
in
one
of
our
best
product
managers,
and
we
we
said
door,
go
figure
out
how
we're
going
to
build
these
tools
and
get
these
tools
launched,
and
that
was
a
huge
task.

We
want
every
six
to
eight
weeks
to
be
in
a
position
where
we
evolve
a
little
bit
and
we
learn
a
lot
along
the
way.
The
first
milestone
I'd,
say
in
that
process
was
fund,
one
where
we
focus
grouped
a
large
group
of
people,
50
plus
people
alongside
a
partner
idea,
scale
and
others,
and
we
gave
them
the
ability
to
dream
and
express
themselves
and
provide
feedback
on
the
process,
and
we
learned
a
huge
amount
from
that.

Crowds
are
not
always
necessarily
wiser
than
the
domain
experts
they're
only
wiser
when
crowds
have
good
idea
flow
and
great
social
dynamics.
So
another
pillar
of
this
effort
isn't
just
quantity,
but
it's
also
improving
the
quality
of
dialogue
so
votes.
If
they're
not
well,
curated
can
often
result
in
curious
outcomes,
and
we
don't
want
to
have
that
happen
for
cardona.
Rather,
we
want
to
have
a
situation
where
every
single
time
the
community
gets
involved.
It's
a
value
add,
and
you
know
what
you've
never
let
us
down
as
a
community.

Recently
with
the
foundation
roadmap,
for
example,
some
frustration
came
and
over
700
people
joined
a
telegram
channel
and
have
been
working
tirelessly
for
the
last
two
weeks
and
produced
a
really
exceptional
road
map
that
very
soon
will
be
open
to
debate
and
using
the
very
same
tools
that
volterra
is
going
to
use
to
vote
on
funding
proposals.
We
can
find
a
way
to
accommodate
a
community-wide
vote,
giving
a
community
mandate
behind
this
roadmap.

This
is
just
a
sampling
of
the
power
of
the
system
that
we
are
building
with
you
guys
together,
it's
going
to
take
some
time.
The
user
experience.
Certainly
is
going
to
take
some
time.
We
really
pushed
hard
to
make
sure
that
we
had
a
good
mobile
experience
in
particular
and
we're
going
to
push
hard
to
make
sure
that
we
have
a
great
voting
center
in
daedalus.

we
can
get
a
representative
sample
of
the
entire
space
and
we've
already
begun
discussions
with
partners,
for
example
like
emergo,
to
see
if
we
can
find
ways
to
get
this
voting
experience
into
the
uri
interface
as
well,
because
it's
not
good
enough
just
to
have
great
social
dynamics.
It's
not
good
enough
to
have
a
great
discussion.
We
want
to
make
sure
there's
high
participation
as
well.
The
majority
of
people
who
hold
data
or
are
involved
in
our
ecosystem
feel
like
their
participation
matters.

Job
is
to
find
a
way
to
get
it
done
and
that's
what
he
always
does
he's
one
of
our
best
and
I'm
glad
to
be
working
with
the
best
you
the
community,
to
get
us
where
we
need
to
go.
The
long
term.
In
my
view,
is
this
will
make
cardano
a
shining
beacon
for
the
entire
cryptocurrency
space.
We
no
longer
will
endure
the
indignity
of
things
like
the
ethereum
classics
or
the
bitcoin
caches
of
the
world,
where
contentious
splits
not
only
create
new
cryptocurrencies
but
ultimately
excommunicate,
good
people.

If
we
fall
into
the
same
governance,
mistakes
of
the
chains
that
have
come
before
us,
so
in
essence,
this
is
the
most
important
stream
of
all
of
them.
Protocols
will
always
get
faster.
Science
will
always
improve.
We
have,
as
a
project
already
accomplished
the
unaccomplishable
task
of
creating
a
decentralized
brain.

The
academic
world
cites
our
papers
more
than
any
other
company,
800
plus
citations
on
the
gkl
model,
and
we
see
lots
of
beautiful,
downstream
derivative
work,
such
as
a
recent
paper
out
of
uiuc
called
nakamoto
proof
of
steak,
which
was
heavily
based
on
concepts
and
ideas
that
we
came
from.
We
as
a
community
will
forever
benefit
from
these
things,
and
that
is
inevitable.
The
engineering
we've
set
out
will
continue
to
evolve.

to
improve,
we'll
continue
to
get
faster,
we'll
continue
to
not
only
make
the
protocols
better
but
also
improve
the
tools
themselves
like,
for
example,
the
compilation
of
haskell
to
web
assembly
and
broaden
the
developer
base

ease
of
maintenance
of
the
things
that
we
do.
But
what
is
unclear
and
not
inevitable,
and
the
point
of
full
terror
is
to
create
that
same
certainty.

have
about
science
and
engineering
getting
where
it
needs
to
go
with
governance,
getting
it
where
it
needs
to
go
and
right
here
today
right
now.

ecosystem
worthy
of
having
a
billion
users
and
worthy

banking,
the
unbanked,
which
was
always

mission,

why
we
created
cardano

give
economic
identity

it

community
manage
the
treasury

a
fair

impactful

answer
is

The
purpose
of
the
innovation
phase
is
to
create
high
quality
proposals.

need

haven't
these

sourcing,

amazing?
Why
didn't
they
take
over
already?
So
the
first
so
there's
some
major
blockage
so
for
innovation?
It's
about
craft
innovation,
so
crowds
usually
get
small
incremental
tactical
requests
for
problems
to
show
solve
like
design
a
better
shoe.
You
know
and
that
always
limited
the
crowd
and
in
terms
of
decision
making,
the
crowds
were
not
making
the
decisions.
They
were
only
only
generating
the
ideas
and
then
you
know
we're
stuck
with
a
few
executives
who
have
little
time.

So
how
are
you
going
to
execute
all
these
things
all
these
ideas,
because
in
a
company
you
have
all
your
employees
are
currently
working
on
internal
projects.
You
know
they
don't
have
extra
resources
to
develop
ideas
from
the
outside
and
you
know
the
crowds
are
given
like
you
know,
like
participation,
trophies
or
gift
cards,
or
you
know
you
can't
really
make
a
big
living
and
make
a
serious
contribution.

no
constraints,
there's
no
cuffs,
and
we
have
a
scalable
decision
and
review
system
that
potentially
can
have
thousands
and
ten
thousands
of
people
generating
decisions
every
six
weeks,
finding
hundreds
of
projects

same

when,
when
we
all
take
our
skills
together
and
execute,
there's
no
bottleneck
and
lastly,
we
have
a
formidable
war
chest
with
around
around
72
million
dollars
worth
of
ada
this
year.

how?
How
can
catalyst
funds
actually
be
better
than
a
regular
company,
so
a
company
to
in
order
to
pivot?
You
know
you
can
think
about
a
startup.
You
can
pivot,
maybe
three
or
four
times
a
year.
If
you're
a
large
company,
you
can
hardly
pivot.
Even
once,
every
several
years
a
catalyst
fund
can
make
lunch
hundreds
of
experiments
a
year
when
you
do
a
regular
company
struggles.

When
they
try
to
both
explore
and
exploit
like
to
to
you
know
when
they're
trying
to
both
maintain
their
existing
services
and
innovate
actually,
like
research,
shows
that
75
of
innovation
initiatives
in
companies
fail
because
of
this
because
of
this
issue,
but
then
with
crowds
they
can
explore
without
any
cuffs
they
don't
need
to.
They
don't
need
to
worry
about
exploitation.
They
just
can
go
and
explore.

a
company
needs
to
make
a
decision,
they're
slow
to
hire
and
it's
risky
to
fire,
but
we
can
mobilize
thousands
in
a
matter
of
weeks
and
for
a
company
to
take
a
new
direction.
They
need
to
build
consensus
and

get
everybody
aligned,
but
we
don't
need
consensus.

People
can
try
different

can

be

but

we
launched
the

phase

be
a

for

to

like
nothing's

feedback
loops
are

get

what's

it
affects

value

the

we

project,

more
efficient

improve
people,
learn

train

get
better,

all

things

it
us
grow
in
a

spectacular

can
we
measure
it,

can
we
define
it
so
for

approach

giving

challenge

we're
asking

after
these
proposals
are
executed
and
we
look
at
their
outcomes,
we
see
we
ask
ourselves:
did
the
efforts
manage
to
attract
developers
and
entrepreneurs
to
our
ecosystem,
you
know:
did
we
did
we
get
what
we
intended
to
get
so
we're
asking?

many
developers
did
we
attract
how
many
entrepreneurs,
how
many
debts
were
built,
how
many
businesses
and
we're
going
to
track
all
this
through
a
reporting
mechanism
for
that
from
the
funded
proposals,
we're
gonna
experiment
with
adding
on-chain
annotations
for
that
created
funded
by
the
treasury?
So
we
can
track
the
track.
The
impact
when
new
users
are
new
new
entrepreneurs
and
developers
join
the
ecosystem,
we're
going
to
survey
and
we're
going
to
ask.
Where
did
you
come
from?

Every
week
we're
gonna
have
a
retro.
We're
gonna,
send
some
kind
of
a
feedback
form
and
ask
you
for
your
feedback
about
the
where
we
are
at
at
the
process.
How
was
the
last
week
so
we
can
improve
and
in
the
catalyst
in
the
id
scale
platform
itself,
there's
a
there's,
a
different
challenge,
aside
from
the
the
ecosystem
challenge,
to
identify
problems.
So
you
can,
you

post
problems
there
and
then
people
can
also
post
solutions
and
we
can
discuss
and
prioritize
and
when
we
measured
fund
zero.

we
decided
that
we
want
to
incentivize
more
decentralization
and
more
participation
by
the
smaller
actors
and
right
now
our
team
is
working
hard
on
designing
that
incentive
system
and
figuring
out
how
how
we
can
be
a
civil
sybil
resistant
to
support
that,
but
once
we
figured
figure
it
out,
it
will
be
deployed.
This
was
a
direct
impact
from
the
fan,
zero
review
and
from
fund
one.
We
learned
that
we
needed
to
add
incentives
for
the
community
advisors
for
the
reviewers.

learned
to
add
an
faq
and
we
made
countless
changes
in
the
innovation
phase
and-
and
I'm
not
even
listening.
You
know
this
is
like
a
very
short
list.
There
was
like
lots
of
lots
of
other
things,
and
so
let's
talk
about
the
innovation
stage.
Where
are
the
next
steps?
So
it
happens
on
on
a
platform
called
id
scale.

They
have
over
five
million
users
and
they
have
nine
years
of
experience,
running
crowd,
innovation,
programs,
they've
been
working
with
clients
and
working
currently
with
clients
from
nasa
feature:
nih,
gopro,
united
ways,
oxford
colombia,
yale
nyu,
they're,
the
they're,
the
market
leader,
and
they
have
a
lot
of
expertise
and
we're
gonna
we're
looking
forward
to
to
this
collaboration
with
them.
That
is
already
started
off
in
a
really
successful
way,
and
the
second
thing
about
the
system
is
that
it's
extremely
the
reason
we
picked.
It
is
because
it's
extremely
feature
rich
and
adaptable.

Not
how
does
the
innovation
phase
looks
like
so
this
week
we're
going
to
start
with
the
explore
challenge
phase
and
I'm
going
to
talk
about
it
in
a
second
and
after
that,
the
week
later,
there's
a
short
window
a
one
week
window
to
to
submit
initial
ideas,
and
while
you
submit
also
the
crowd
like
everybody
is
invited
to
already
start
to
give
a
structured
feedback
to
improve
these.
These
proposals
a
week
later,
the
submission
window
closes
and
everybody
just
focuses
on
improving
and
giving
feedback
and
structured
feedback
to
the
proposals.
That's
been
submitted.

Then
there's
a
week
for
the
pro
for
for
the
proposing
teams
to
transform
their
initial
idea
into
a
a
full-fledged
proposal,
ready
to
be
funded
and,
of
course,
for
some
people,
maybe
to
withdraw
their
proposal
and
then
a
week
later,
we're
going
into
a
review
phase
where
the
community
advisors
go
and
review.
The
proposals
give
them
score
and
give
them
a
score.
And
after
the
after
the
review
is
complete
and
we
move
to
the
governance
phase
and
you
will
all
receive
a
link
to
a
voting
app
and
you
can
start
to
vote.

another
note
about
this
platform
beyond
submitting
ideas
and
submitting
your
perspective
on
the
challenge
and
giving
comments.
There's
also
two
functionalities:
that's
important
to
keep
in
mind.
One
is
kudos,
so
kudos
is
a
way
for
you
to
when
you
notice.
Someone
else
in
the
community
that
gives
value
demonstrates
a
behavior
that
you
want
to
encourage
and
you
want
to
celebrate.
You
know,
give
them
give
them
a
kudos.

It
will
be
shown
prominently
on
the
leaderboard
and
also,
if
you
give
a
kudos
to
an
idea,
then
it's
kind
of
like
almost
a
declaration
of
public
support,
so
people
can
hover
above
the
kudos
above
the
idea
and
they
can
see
who
who
supported
it.
So
maybe
you
know
if
you
hover
above
something,
and
you
see
that
people
you
respect
and
trust,
gave
a
kudos
proposal.
Maybe
it's
worthy
of
your
attention.

that
means
you
will
start
to
get
notifications
when
the

know
the
ideas
evolve
and
when
there's
new
comments
added,

this
is
also
an
important
indicator

see

much
attraction
and
attention
proposals
get
during
this
phase.
