uh In the end, where you get the chance to connect with a fellow kardan travelers and explore various topics which won't be a shortage today as well, but without further ado, let me fire up the slides and let's kick it off, so full screen share screen and that should take care of it. So, hopefully everybody sees my screen, and if that is the case, in no other fashion, then welcome to the experiment.

Hi good evening welcome to the experiment and remember things may break they may lack documentation. They may differ greatly between iterations. They may disorient overload and inspire, but our goal is a safe and lively environment are for you to explore the highest potential of human collaboration. I'm kevin hammond, I'm the technical manager for cardano. I'm pleased to join you tonight I'll, be joining you later to tell you a bit about how the cardano treasury works without any further ado. Let me hand back to daniel awesome. Thank.

You kevin well, this slide never gets old whomever, regardless whenever we read it because it really, it really resonates quite deeply, and you know um I think everybody leaves and breathes pretty much every single line here that uh the things are not always going according to the plan, but we are persevering and that's quite quite an important trait. So thank you.

Kevin uh we'll be hearing from you just in a later part of the town hall looking forward to and because we are on the topic of treasuries today um it seemed to be quite appropriate to maybe highlight one of the recent closeout reports for the catalyst circle: treasury management by a team which was submitted during the fund 7 under miscellaneous challenge, and we have a close-up video if you're interested in the links and the close-up report you'll be able to find it in the slide deck as well.

But let me try to get us the video itself and, let's hear from the team directly. So here we go.

Hi and welcome this is our closeout video for the catalyst circuit, treasury and management proposal we submitted in fund 7.. We submitted a proposal in the fund, 7 miscellaneous challenge to build a system for recording data and transactions payments for catalyst circle. We requested and received eleven thousand four hundred dollars worth of ada for this project.

We were on boarded into the cc admin team. In november 2021, we already had funds from a fund six proposal to work with planning on the bookkeeping system started on december 6th development started on january 12th and the first transaction was executed and recorded on january 18th.

Constant updates were made to the system to make the process as easy and transparent as possible. The next transaction happened a month later on february 14th, and after that we had a constant flow of transactions happening every week.

The main challenge was figuring out what to do and how to do it. We pretty much jumped in with little experience into something completely new. As more and more transaction happened, it became clear where we needed to make improvements.

We had to make an overall change to the core system in order to include metadata and the transactions, something we overlooked from the start. The new metadata in the transaction made everything better, not just for us, but also for the people receiving the payments.

We missed all the deadlines we set in the proposal, but in the end we completed everything and also achieved more than we planned to. We got approached by other communities that needed the same services. We were more than happy to help. We also had to go full-time catalyst to do all the work.

Okay. Now I will show you quick how we are doing these transactions.

F

We will click the transaction form link too then we will add all necessary information, like budget item name of the person which project amount of data and description after submitting this form, we'll have new form, then we'll copy this text and we will go to our world. We will add metadata paste this text, we will add amount and we will add wallet, address.

F

Now we will copy transaction id, we will go to all document, paste transaction id here scroll down and we will commit new file after we will commit new file. We go to issues, then we will click new issue, we will click the link transaction form 1, and then we will fill out all needed data.

Then we will add label and we will add project, and now we will connect github with gitbook and there is our json file. We will click this file and on the right side we have raw, we will click the row and we will copy the url and now we will jump to gitbook and we will fill out unnecessary data.

And now we will click the merge and we will check if everything is okay, we will click the link, and now we have connection with github.

Our main focus for the future is to keep making improvements to the system and to work on onboarding process for future treasurers. We are part of the circle, governance and administration, proposing in found eight. This proposal is to help us continue work for catalyst circle. We also have a treasury guild proposal in fund 8 to help us grow and make improvements to the system, so we can help more funded proposals.

The idea is to provide this service for free to funded proposals, so they can operate transparently and focus more time on their projects. We also submitted a challenge proposal for fund 9 called legal and financial implementations.

We believe this challenge will bring many new solutions to funded proposals, as there was a lot of discussion happening, this found around funding and taxes dear people. Thank you. Well, that was cool another real life, practical example of implementation of the solution which seems like it. It's not only something that could be used just for this use case, and I know that at least I saw miro and andre definitely up here. So if, if any of you, gentlemen, I know I I did request from amira to have a quick chat if you'll be willing andre, if you, if you want to do the same, for free to come up, mute and I'd love to ask you a question or two: are you james with us?

Yes, we are here. So that was a cool presentation. I see people like the music, but it was much more than just music in the background. What really caught my attention is that you were saying that it's not just something that will be essentially helping you and it's something it could be adapted by other people in a similar need, and how would that work and like if somebody else is looking at this and they say like whoa like I've. Had problems like like these and like this seems like a solution that could be implemented.

Like how would they go about it or like how can it be implemented if it can.

F

Yeah, actually we we have idea to to do this transaction for future proposal for for future teams, if they will need help, we can help them, and second, we have idea to to teach people also if they are interested in that kind of job, I would say job, so we can teach them. We will also do some videos and how to do yeah and yeah, maybe in future there will also be themes for that. Who knows.

Yeah, it seems, like um you know the how most of the people and like we still love google sheets and we're hoping to move away as quickly as possible from managing the things in that kind of environment. But, like you know, traditionally, people would be probably marking their the spendings in the google sheets. So like something like this. Is it's really really cool and what inspired you? What was it that the mere need or like where, where the idea originated like I, I need to build this.

uh We need to build this because it's not there like what led you to it like, okay, that's it! I've had enough. We need to build a management system.

F

Yeah I mean cc: admin team help us a lot and yeah, because I think last year uh cc army in one ton they said: okay, we will onboard treasury treasury guys or I mean one treasury and then only andre and me we we jump in on on that role and yeah from there they're they're I mean they're, they guide us and they they tell us what to do and how to I mean the whole idea and all concept about github and git book. How can everything be transparent and under build a system from scratches?

We didn't have any any uh experience in that yeah and andre andre did a great job, so maybe andre. You can also say something. I know that you're shy but yeah, you must say something.

I am working with steven, I think he he was the guy that decided, because we did start from the start. We used google sheets and then he was the one that suggested that we move to beat up. So it was just a trial and error and eventually got got it right and I'm still working with stephen. So I think we're gonna try and build something that people can use for themselves like a template. They can just take an event and we can help them put it into place.

Yeah because I think any time we hate we hear for the newcomers and when they hear the word git book or github, you know they get a little scared right like because it seems like so complicated, but like the interface then like sort of workflow that we saw in the video seems like a more intuitive version, how to interact with something like that. So do I understand, like it's it's much easier if someone is concerned about using github that, like this is a really good possible way for somebody to get engaged with it or like.

Where do you think this could be taken to the next level.

C

So yeah uh it's going just it's gonna take time, but uh I think you know we are busy working on something. That's gonna make it a lot easier and we are making training videos. I think once those training videos get out, that's going to be the next step. People just start looking at the training, videos and start building.

I think that's that's the next step for us once once. We've finalized everything, let's start pushing our training videos.

Awesome well that sounds fantastic. Thank you, gentlemen, for sparing the time of the day working on the project and also allowing us to share, do to share the progress that you've uh that you've collectively made. I already saw some people in the chat like hey. How did I get the hands on it?

A

So, like definitely, the training and people are interested in it because I think it's something which is quite dear to a lot of people's minds that like how do we manage these, these managements and whatnot, and I think it will be ever more important as we move forward so introducing tools that make it more easier and transparent to onboard people is definitely key. So thank you, gentlemen, for spearheading there and looking forward uh where the story leads to next. So thank you very much awesome.

um Let's return to the slide deck real, quick again, if you wanted to re, watch the video or find the links or close-up report for this project, you see it on the slide deck here and then that's just the part of the larger story. So if you want to see what the additional projects progress has been so far, there is a link here that you can hop into the funny projects, reporting that goes into greater detail and there's other projects that have been completed.

As of recent as well so and much like we've seen today, there will be project closeout video, along with the report as well, and you know don't be shy to jump in. You know it's uh it's a closeout as much as for anyone.

A

um So uh for the accountability always read up, I make sure everything seems legitimate, because that's also part of the process like have the projects delivered and if they did, what that outcome is so again now they're, currently in the spreadsheet like that and we're hoping to grow out of it soon enough and yeah. I think right now the numbers are the 55 projects and soon enough at about a million dollars worth of ada and distribution on completed projects.

A

So that's that's pretty exciting uh in in general and somebody's saying that they're not seeing the slides and thank you very much because I was totally saying to the slides without sharing them. So let me try that again, things may break perfect, so I I think you should be seeing the slide now uh and if you do like that's uh that's what I chatted about.

So if you, if you want to check out what the other projects are working on, just feel free to uh to check through it cool, um because we are going to transfer to another voting round for fund 8, I think is a good time to reflect where we've been in the previous round as well, and I had the privilege to chew through a lot of rows of feedback that was collected from the community and um trying to come up what the themes are.

A

What are the points that we can uh learn from where we can iterate and what are the opportunities in general and what are the challenges as well? So a the fund, 7 feedback outcome, we'll be sharing here tonight. I have a bunch of graphs which visualizes the output button. Also, there is a link at the end of this part of the presentation which goes a little deeper and it's like a shareable google doc. So if you miss any of these parts, so you want to dive a little bit deeper.

I also included a lot of different quotes um that were that I found interesting and- and they were very constructive, so they were included in there as well so make sure to check it out as such. But how has it been so on here? You can see the the initial breakdown when we compare between different funds and how the sentiment has been evolving so far. Now, what's great is that we managed to get a bit larger sample of people involved in the survey this time around.

I think we had about 760 individuals submit the the the form inputs. So that's great. Thank you. Everyone who participated in that effort so because it gives us a greater grasp and understanding again at the end of the day, do keep in mind. Surveys can be a little bit misleading at times in a way that it's only the people that participated and found the survey.

A

So as you as you go and look through these things always keep in mind that there may be people who have not had the opportunity to interact with the survey and their opinions are not represented here. So this is just a sample of those that we were able to find, and I appreciate everyone who found the time between different funds.

A

So uh you can you can check that out, but let's, let's dive a little bit more into what the different scores have been so this uh this plot here represents a bit of like a distribution of the answers in every different of the major categories where it goes from the strongly disagree to the strongly agree category. So you can.

A

You can probably assume that there is a really good uh sentiment overall within the catalyst community as such, but definitely there are opportunities for improvements and iterations, because there are some outliers that are signaling certain things to us, as we know about the challenges that are.

A

uh You know that we are addressing almost on a daily basis as well, so that's definitely part of this report uh and and it does show, but it it definitely uh suggests a very healthy course and then an alignment with what we are trying to do collectively in in line with the first slide. It's it's the experiment.

A

Just to give you a bit of an overview of like who uh who participated so about most of the people identified themselves as voters. We also had the people from the community advisor group, co-proposers, referrers, challenge, team members, and definitely we had a few people and feeling also who haven't voted or proposed.

A

So that's also interesting to see what their perspective is, because what brings people in is understanding like how do we convert the lurkers and those who haven't participated in the ecosystem to to want it to be to be part of it, and maybe there's blockers and things that we can learn from there. So that was um pretty pretty insightful as such in terms of like which wallets have been identified, where these was the registration done.

A

So naturally, there is deadlifts in uri, because we've had those as the first two options and only options initially where people were able to register. So a lot of those continuous registrations are perhaps not necessary for people to include anymore because they registered in the past, but what we see we're starting to see the community while it's come up as well.

A

So we still have here the older cc vault, which now is an eternal wallet, but it's great to see that the catalyst is becoming slowly agnostic in a way that more community wallets are able to provide the opportunity for the catalyst participants to exercise their their void voice and be able to register.

A

So that's super exciting, because we are deeply continuing that the conversation with uh different ecosystem community wallets, which are willing and ready to partake with the team, and especially in the light of the voting center for the delegate representation coming on later this summer, where we are talking again with additional community wallets that uh we're hoping to onboard as well, so that that is pretty exciting that that distribution will even out as the time goes on, because um governance is for everybody. That's just a one or two wallets as such.

A

So once we open all of those different apis and whatnot. That will be very exciting development, but just uh just for these purposes of this uh survey there was the distribution and also like. There was another question about where the people are getting information and you can see that it's quite evenly distributed. um There's two people that are reading the mailing list. People are looking on telegram: we've got discord, idea, scale, reddit, twitter and youtube, so I think that's pretty much where the catalyst operates these days.

A

So it's not uh unusual to see all of these categories represented. So that's uh pretty interesting to see where your fellow travelers and catalyst hang out and then yeah and then the second part um is about the questions where I dived a little deeper and try to understand a bit more where the sentiments are coming. So, like the first question I looked at was you know on the scale of one to ten? How likely are you to recommend the project catalyst to a friend or a colleague? And again it's a very promising trend.

A

It seems like people are really in tune with it, but it also shows the opportunity for improvement within that little valley, which is at the you know like 6, 7, eight and nine, where there's definitely opportunities to improve things in the catalyst and just to quote couple of the quotes which I found under the the section here is: there's nothing else like it. I have met such a high caliber of human beings here that I recommend it to everyone.

So I appreciate whoever mentioned that there was another really nice uh comment saying that it's such a fertile ground for new ideas. So it's really really nice to see that people are uh in tune with that, but definitely there are further opportunities of where we can get a little bit better, and that essentially brings us to uh the next couple of questions where I try to look at like what are those opportunities. Where are people thinking that we can probably do a little bit better than we have done so far?

A

So with a question about the voting process? Being it fair, I looked, and all of those following questions were actually follow. The very same logic where I looked at the key themes of people who answered strongly disagree, disagree or somewhere in the middle out of the scale from the five and when it came to the voting uh process.

A

Being it fair, I think the most common and prevalent themes in people's minds, where the effects of the whales and people with lots of data and how that affects the the process and what that means in the grandest scheme of the picture. Also about the suggestions that maybe there should be a randomization of proposal views in the app seeking a bit more guidelines.

A

So they will be also a bit less complicated and more comprehensible, and not surprisingly, that there are too many proposals voting some voting, app errors and then also talking about the multi language uh support which is cool. We have in the second part. Following this feedback, we will have a few thoughts about the voting app and the updates. So we're gonna talk about a few of those elements that we try to pick up on and that we managed to introduce into the voting app this time around.

But I'll leave that in just a minute another one was, you know, I thought the voting system was easy to use again going back to the voting app and what were the things that people highlighted the most again. Not surprisingly, there's just too many proposals, you know how in the world can we make a decision? If there's a thousand proposals, do I have to vote on everything and and the everything that comes with it?

A

So um that was definitely something which is on everybody's minds and also partially, where the delegation representation sort of comes in a little bit handy and we're going to be talking about it in in a greater detail in the weeks and and months to come.

A

Second again, not a surprise, there there's an idea, scale, login wall and you know like how do you learn about the proposals if you are unable to click through there, um so in confidence, if everything goes as expected, when the voting begins, the idea is that this time around, we've managed to bring down the login wall for idea scale. So during the period of voting. So if people will be in the voting app fingers crossed if nothing breaks, you know it's it's catalyst and things break.

We have to deal with them, but if nothing breaks and it works as intended and marek does his magic. So thank you mark for doing that. We will be able to click from the voting app into the proposal and it will take us to the viewable option of the proposal. How that looks like on the idea scale.

A

So I'm really looking forward to see how that works out or not, but that's definitely the intention for the current voting round, which should eliminate some of that friction, and I'm personally really most uh most excited about that again. The idea scale will close down following the end of the voting period, but as long as you're, interacting with the voting. That should be the case so looking forward to that again, another uh thought that people had was the desktop experience option.

You know mobile may be too small again because in the light of the number of proposals, so that's definitely not something we are able to address like immediately, but we are looking long-term into enabling a voting experience which would be outside of the mobile or in addition to it, just like, for example, in in the desktop environment, but we are not there yet, and it is something that would come a bit later, but definitely we're feeling it at it's on the roadmap and then maintaining registration between updates.

It's not really friendly to re-login each time the app was losing the state. So I think that was also an often point of frustration between people when they were interacting with the app, and I think we have some good update on the voting app on that front in couple of minutes as well. So hopefully everyone will enjoy a bit of that as well.

A

Then the next one was proposals funded will generate impact, impactful outcomes. So how have people felt about what the stuff they're actually voting on and the the biggest themes is that the voters or the people interacting this? You know there's a feeling that there needs to be work on more clarity and transparency and where and how to look for information so that the voters can do a better and more informed uh decisions, as they have been so far and then naturally, the outcomes platform to view this innovation and the voter tracking of funded proposals.

I saw a really phenomenal suggestion from somebody that I voted for a couple of proposals. What if I had the option in the future to come back based on the ballot I submitted.

A

That would show me like how are those proposals doing and so that I can easily find that information without uh without jumping too many hoops and whatnot, and I think this will go a long line along line with lots of community uh run initiatives on this front and also the outcomes dashboard that we're hoping to roll out uh at some point this uh this year as well. So definitely a big pain point and something that is an opportunity to be improved upon another hotly debated topic.

I trust the ranking systems of proposals that appear in the voting app, um so there still seems to be a strong consensus and agreement between the voting population and where and how the the entire ssqa stage has worked out to date, understanding all the limitations and the things which we've been uh presented as challenges over the past couple of funds. But the questions are relevant and it's the things we need to be able to answer uh confidently.

Who is making reviews who are the cas? So if somebody comes into the voting map very often that was not clear into like what is it that the voters actually looking at um definitely concerns about that. We still don't have enough reviews um very valid concern and then more transparency, guidelines, explanations in terms of like the entire process. uh What are the different assessments that people are seeing now in the voting app and how to make sense?

There is slight uh updates to that in the voting app which we'll touch upon in the updating couple of minutes as well. So I'm really excited about that one as well, and then. Lastly, uh seemingly often you would also have concerns about how much influence the cas have on the process and what is their role and how should that be more clearly defined and and perhaps better understood and divide our audience so definitely, topics within which which are on the radar just like with the entire ca community and with the different iterations.

So I'm really looking forward to the further outcomes of the effort that comes from these conversations on just improving the the process as such, but it's good to see that there is definitely a hopeful confidence from the community that we can and we will make these things better and communication.

A

um As always, there's never end of the light at the end of the tunnel with communication, there's always things you can do a little bit better. I think the biggest thing that people were asking for: how can we do notifications different?

A

You know missing timelines, you know changes and the progress of it and I think that's the opportunity where we can explore with the voting app and notification system a little bit better, and that was the to the second point that a lot of people felt that maybe there are opportunities how we can leverage the voting app even outside of just the voting period.

A

That would give the opportunity for people to join for other reasons and and sort of interact and could be perhaps another window to the catalyst and maybe an option for people to slowly on board during the different life cycles within the fund, because the the fund proceeds- and it's not only just the 14 day of voting period, that uh you know that encompasses everything. So definitely great insights, and you know the usual talk about the central hub of information. As we know, the information is still all over the place.

We are struggling with it as a community as a whole. I think we're getting better and better at formalizing it and I think, there's a number of initiatives right now on their way, which are seeking to consolidate that a little bit more.

A

So it would be much easier also to the fact of whether it's it's easy to get people on board it, because that brings us to the second, where you see the distribution of scores, a bit more uneven, where you know, people who are not privy to the catalyst system or they haven't been here for a while. You know they're confused, it's overwhelming they're distorted. So how do we address the points of this and I think again, number of funded projects and also a lot of other unfunded uh initiatives are trying to tackle that.

So that's great to see. That is definitely uh on our collective minds, and then I saw great ideas. Come up a few times talk about matching community members about different mentorship and buddies program. That would enable people to hop in and what I found really interesting and illuminating is maybe talking about the concept. How do we enable amid flight on boarding, I think, was the term somebody used that? How do we onboard people in the middle of the things and how do they fit into the system?

A

And how do we enable their like smooth transition, as we are, maybe in the middle of the voting or whether we are in the middle of assessing proposals? How do we make sure that they find the right place and that they feel comfortable, so they can sort of like join, observe and then start participating directly as well. So lots of really great thoughtful conversations in in those outcomes, and that's really in the nutshell.

So if you would like to read a little bit more, I put up a report, it's in this document here, and it basically will have all of these graphs in one longer document. But what I did there, I also included always like quotes key quotes from the people, so that, if you're interested in a lengthier detail of like what different things and meanings are behind this course like. I encourage you to check it out, because uh score can tell you only as much.

But there's definitely great insight in in the people's minds, as they were writing these, because the feedback we're getting fund after fund is getting more thoughtful and more constructive as as the time goes by and it's great tool for us collectively and it not only you know it not only should inform us from the ios and the developer experience side of the things, but also now by opening it up.

A

It hopefully will allow the community to get a better sense of like what are the opportunities that we can match in and on top of everything, that's already happening. So I definitely encourage you to check it out um lots of more greater insights in the log form in the document and yeah. Thank you thank you for participating, um and that's uh that's essentially um in in the nutshell where the fund 7 is and again for fund 8. Once we're done with the voting, there will be fund 8 exit survey as well.

Hey what's going catalyst thanks, everybody for joining today's town hall. My name is mike mcnulty and I'm super excited to be here to give some updates on the voting app if you're watching this means that, unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it back in time after my wife's surgery can't join all of you. Beautiful people live, she needed an emergency extraction after one of her wisdom, teeth got infected, so I'm looking after her and hopefully getting a funny video or two after she comes out of her her anesthesia.

But if you have any questions, follow the presentation, please share them with danny and we'll make sure to get them answered for you as quickly as we can without any further ado. Welcome to the experiment.

A couple updates we want to share today soon be looking at a couple new features and also sharing some updates. Looking ahead, main things we want to share are functionality related to continue voting, letting people easily vote on batches of proposals with a new vote counter on cast ballot indicator and improved ui. We've also got network status.

How people cast the ballots with confidence, give some indication of network overload and trying to get those ballots cast during time to lower congestion and then assessment quality popular demand from the community prioritizing the highest quality proposal assessments in the app to make sure we're making well-informed decisions and getting the outcomes from those vca rankings into our voting app to help voters make informed decisions.

We've also got some bonus things at the end, but we'll save that until we get there. So this first one continue voting. So looking at results from last fund, we were super excited to see lots of people voting on lots of proposal and expressing their voice, but we notice that some people only voting on one or two proposals.

I just want to make sure everybody remembers that that data that you hold gives you the right to express your voice on each and every proposal so use it um kind of the goal we want to set for everybody, and- and this upcoming voting round is: let's try to get the 25 votes cast per person. So let's encourage and support each other to get there. It's pretty ambitious, but I think that with this great community, all these great people we've got we can.

We can definitely get there um and in order to support that again, I mentioned we've got um the the vote counter.

B

So where previously, um when you, when someone cast a vote, you just had a new one new pending vote, and you were directed to go into my selection to cast that vote, but now we're kind of encouraging people to continue voting, making a little bit easier to cast those multiple proposals uh and we're excited to see people um use this improved flow in the app to cast those proposals and reach that goal of 25 votes per uh for voter out here now, the next one, the the network status I mentioned.

We want to create that capability to cast ballots with confidence, uh try to submit those votes during times of lower congestion, so with more people casting more votes, we're working on more robust solutions on how to handle this additional capacity and scalability is a major goal for the team. During this next year, we're going to be looking at things like incremental tallying, parallel voting chains and we're already starting to integrate native tokens on on the yarmouth gander chain to facilitate our current voting processes.

um So until we have all all of this robust functionality where we're doing we're optimizing, what we can and trying to give everyone an indication of the current network load. So we can smooth things out, set expectations and really try to work together to keep things on track until we can have those more more robust capabilities to really scale.

This thing, we ask that in the meantime, everybody help us out and try to rely on those network statuses- and you know if, if you, if you have the flexibility to cast your vote during a less congested time, we do ask that you, you do do that and then we've got the assessment quality. So this was a suggestion that came out of the community, and so we're excited to be sharing that we are implementing this so prioritizing the highest quality proposal assessments to make well-informed decisions.

So now, by default, um the uh excellent excellent assessments will be shown. First, in the app followed by good and we've also got a little tool tip in the app to help new users get up to speed and learn exactly what is actually meant by those assessment rankings of excellent and good and kind of highlighting that there might have been some that were filtered out by the vca process.

Things we want to highlight here is that, just as we grow our experiment and distributed decision making just trying to make sure that everyone has as much information as possible to make those well-informed decisions, we have all this great work being done by the vcas in the community, and so we want to highlight that and make that information available to users.

B

So please, as you're going through and making your selections this round as you're checking out those assessments trying to make well-informed decisions, also take note of those vca tags and kind of notice that the the most excellent reviews are going to have the the most helpful information when trying to make our voting decisions uh and then looking ahead. So those are some of the big things we have coming in fund eight um and key objectives and fund nine are gonna, be to make the app more usable across the fun cycle.

Try to promote engagement, reduce frustration and streamline the onboarding process, so some of the things we're working on currently are daily voting. Power updates outside of snapshot and voting. Have that quicker feedback loop of when you connect your wallet immediately know what kind of voting power you have?

B

Are you above the threshold and have that updated in in not real time, but on a daily basis to make sure that, as we approach snapshot and we approach the active voting round, that everybody has enough voting power to be able to participate and knows what their voting power is also dynamic and have fun cycle information.

B

So making this thing a little bit more useful across the fun cycle, trying to highlight, what's going on at different phases, encouraging people to drop into idea, scale to engage with proposals and comments and ideas, and then, finally, just overall improve messaging and ui around registration, getting up to speed, making sure we're taking care of our new users and making it as seamless as possible to get up to speed on the voting app and start expressing your voice. With the data that you hold.

And then, last but not least, we've got the fund goal. So we know that there have been concerns about the mention of charles and the strategic goals for the fund that we saw in fund seven and have been showing in the app so far during fun. Nine and just note that will be corrected, and uh once we get this new version of the app out later this week, it will just be the strategic goals for fund eight and we're gonna be removing the dimension of charles and yes, he.

He did play a major role in helping to set our strategic direction as we begin our journey towards decentralization. But now it's time for the community to to really start to take that ownership.

B

And so here you know really want to highlight that it's not just charles's goals, but it's our our goals and then really want to have that community ownership over what we're going to be doing over the coming months and years together through catalyst and so yeah. Our journey towards true decentralization is underway, and we need you, um here's something we're trying to do to get a little bit more community participation in that goal, setting um not for fund eight but for fund nines. We're asking that everybody can take just five minutes engage with this.

Wiki survey uh react to ideas from others and suggest your own really really simple. Just follow that link say it's going to show you a bunch of cards with potential goals for the fun. You just say: do you agree with it? Do you disagree with it and, if you're, seeing if you're not seeing what you feel to be the most important strategic goals, go ahead and add your own so that others can see that card and can give their own reactions to your suggestion.

At the end of this, we'll get a nice report of what were all of the you know highest rated goals. Where do we have a lot of consensus? Where do we maybe have a lot of divisiveness? Are there any strategic goals that we're really split on as a community, and we would love to use the the input we collect here?

As a starting point for populating the fun goals that we show in the app for fun nine, so we wanna hear from you: we wanna have your voice represented if you wanna have a say in what our fund goals are: gonna, be for fun, nine, and what we're gonna show to voters and challenge setters within the voting app during fun. Nine again, please follow that link. Add your ideas! Add your reactions. It'll only take five minutes.

Super simple um and they're really going to help us along in our journey towards decentralization and really making this a collective effort with all of us together, not only working and innovating within catalyst, but also helping to set that overall strategic direction together and for the curious minded. It's a ai and analytics engine was famously used to break democratic gridlock in the v. Taiwan project definitely encourage you to check it out. Super cool, very easy to use. There's a couple links in the speaker notes here. Yeah so like we were talking about, uh I think with stephen right now that if you had the time for after town hall q a and if somebody wanted to pop in then perhaps we can do a couple of minutes there. I think it'd be a bit more complicated now in the main segment, because we are running longer again, but uh yeah so appreciate it great. That was a great insight. I think it nicely shows a bit of a correlation about that feedback that is being collected and how things are being slowly implemented.

I wish we all had the magic wands that we can just like you know, uh swing them and have things implemented, but you know it's not easy right mike, though, to to get things rolling and get things aligned. So um how have you been doing.

It's been a it's been a crazy time, but lots of lots of exciting stuff going on and kind of, alluding to it and and some of the messaging here um right, we're obviously a ways away. But you know there are things in the pipeline things like the voting on a desktop and being able to vote in different native tokens. I mean I definitely can't make any commitments on timeline at this point, but these are definitely we're. Having conversations we're starting to think about. How can we actually make that a reality?

And so love love to always see all the alignment with the things that we're thinking about ideas in the community and all the great cross-pollination? And it's and it's great to see the reminders of all the feedback that danny was sharing there?

How much of that feedback is, is informing not only some of the things that are coming now in fund eight, the things we're looking at for for fund nine as well in terms of that that messaging, the onboard and the communication, making it understandable and intuitive to actually use the app and and try to accomplish our objectives in there. um So yeah it's definitely it's uh it's been crazy, but we're having fun.

Awesome so a we did touch upon that the voting is about to begin, so we are definitely all eager to start with the voting, as you said, uh as you saw like there's a lot of cool updates to the voting app um and we are just now waiting for the the stores to do some pending approvals. Now we had a smooth sailing through the google play store. So if you are on android, I think you should be good to go.

We have hit a little bit of a roadblock with the apple store, so we still have some pending uh approvals there, so in in the worst case in there, it may be the case that the apple uh app we in the from the store may not be operational tomorrow, but we'll see we're doing everything we can, um but we did hit that a little bit of a roadblock earlier uh this week and we're trying to rectify that and uh so far everything looks promising. So in case there is a pending update on your app.

They still awaiting the approval from the apple store. So just uh an idea out there if anyone's, building decentralized, app store. You know it couldn't come soon soon enough, but yeah. So we are very much excited the voting begins this week. It will be open for 14 uh for 14 days and uh that should bring us then to about the tallying somewhere around may 13th a little bit into the future. But enough of that for now, let's hear it from a quick update from the circle dory.

All right welcome to the circle slides uh the catalyst circle is a human sensor array that consists of functional representatives from seven different groups.

It's an iterative mechanism to problem sense and prioritize community effort and attention, and if you're interested in a little bit of an introduction about the circle, there's a great article here behind this link written by chris baird next slide um the functions of the circle. The circle exists to fulfill four key goals.

uh The first is to facilitate communication between the different functional groups to provide a heads up when red lines are crossed within a certain group to suggest improvements on plans and processes that shape project catalyst and to define the election process or circle v4 next slide.

So our current catalyst circle v3 is bullish. Dumpling for the cardano foundation, dmitry fernando for the general ada holders, harris warren, representing iog, joey, cheshire for tool makers and maintainers mercier for funded proposers, rhys morgan for the stake, pool operators and nadia hopkins for the community advisors, and I believe today we have some slides and a presentation from nadia and I'll hand it off to her.

Okay, hi everyone rounding out the fun here, so we are in a little bit of review mode, which is fantastic, um so just a reminder that we have a after town hall today. This is mercy and I uh jointly putting this together mercy on behalf of funded proposers and proposers overall and uh me originally on behalf of community advisors.

uh But what happened ultimately is. Last time we had this joint after town hall, which was on march 30th. Really everyone from the community came, and we spoke about all parts of the roles in the process.

H

So it became a sort of joint after town hall for the whole community to look at the whole catalyst process and say: where can we make improvements where easy fixes? What do we want to work on? What proposals might come out of this?

H

What have you learned this time and uh we compiled all of that uh special thanks to vanessa, who did that work into this full compilation, um and we put together a just a discord channel to have that conversation specific for that group to continue the conversation which has happened over the past few weeks.

H

So this is a community-wide invite, not just for community advisors but not just for funded proposals, but for anyone, who's looking at the process and seeing those opportunities to come and we're going to think today about what we've found and what might happen as a result. So it's very much an open discussion and hopefully a very collaborative one in our after town hall.

H

I think I called it fund 8 problem and solution sensing, so something like that if you can't make that today and you're already on the way somewhere else, then you're welcome to just join this discord channel and please join the conversation and hopefully find some good collaborative opportunities.

H

I'll also say, as an update to my last week, slide that there is an initiative sub-circle forming for the community advisors and veteran community advisors. So separate from this joint after town hall initiative, the community advisor veteran community advisor group also took time to sense our problems over the fund, and these this group is specifically flushing those out and trying to prioritize them for the coming funds. So there's those are two different initiatives that I have here.

These two different orange arrows or two different things happening, but ultimately, what we're thinking is that we'll have covered the entire field of the process and hopefully, we'll get to take some good action on those um as we go. So if you were a ca or a vca, or you have experiences in that process that you'd like to be involved in looking at or you're already doing, something please hop over to that subcircle discord channel, which is linked here in the slides and we'll be happy to have you be part of that process.

Next slide, please, and then I'm posting this on behalf of a gimbal labs working group that has come together to gather community input on core governance fundamentals.

So this group that's come together to really think about these governance fundamentals and how we work as a community to evolve, and so this group is requesting feedback via this questionnaire form that they've put together and uh just what I really want to reinforce that this invite is open for any community members, not just any not just from a specific roles perspective, but anyone who's come to catalyst to be involved and to contribute.

We welcome both the filling out of the form and the further distribution of it, so it can get wide communication and there is also a discord channel for this group that is linked here. So um if you are watching this, maybe later on in the recording, you can get to these slides and find these groups and really find a place to um nest your interests and your contributions over time. So that's.

So hello from the community governance oversight group- and so I think I have mentioned in the past- that community governance oversight is presenting every other week what we are doing- um and I have heard some feedback- that there were some questions about where this group came from and and the origin of how we formed. So I thought I'd just take a brief minute to talk about our history and as an aside, I welcome feedback.

If there are questions that anyone in the community has or anyone watching the recording feel free to message me or find the community governance oversight group on discord and and reach out to learn more about what we're doing um so. We began in november of 2021 harris warren from iog, provided a presentation on the catalyst parameters pilot that is linked as part of I'm jumping ahead here. But what part of what community governance oversight is doing is providing transparency and documentation.

So links to everything that I'm going to talk about are at the end of my slides. So anyway, harris gave a presentation. This led to iog and members from ccv2 drafting a fund 7 proposal to provide oversight specifically of the parameters pilot, but also more broadly, of the other catalyst governance processes.

Thank you very much to the community that process that proposal was funded successfully in fund 7 and then the interested community members committed to that project. At a pre-planning meeting in march of 2022, and so community governance oversight officially came together and, as I mentioned, anyone who wants to engage with us has questions wants to join the conversation. Please feel free to come to our discord server and we can go to the next slide.

So what have we been doing? uh We had our third cgo meeting on thursday, the 7th of april and again, all of our meetings are recorded and are posted um in the get book for anybody to view. The next cgo meeting is tomorrow. What we discussed in our last meeting we're looking into what defines a catalyst parameter. So what does that really mean? What is a catalyst parameter and what constitutes a parameter change, and we also have an initiative working with the catalyst circle v3 on a review of the prioritized problems workflow.

So it's not up to cgo to participate in that process or to submit prioritized problems, but we are working with the circle to help to define the process. That's the role of the cgo, so two meetings have occurred. More are coming, those are also recorded and public, so another governance initiative refers to the d-reps, so we talked in the past about an open letter from the community to iog about the d-reps. Iog has responded to that open letter.

That response is, with the rest of the cgo information and iog has reopened the application to join the first draft cohort. So if you go to the last slide, please so I keep mentioning documentation. You can find all of the documentation for everything that I've just mentioned on that documentation, link and you can find the recordings to our meetings as well um also a link to the fund 7 proposal. And then we have a fund 8 proposal out now in order to continue the work of the cgo.

Hi hi johnny. Yes, I am absolutely pleasure.

Well, floor is yours, and um just whenever you're ready to advance to the next slice, just tell me, and uh we should.

Do so please, danny and I'd like to introduce my colleague jared corduan uh who's. Also here and jared is the head of the ledger team. The cardano ledger team uh he's the person who makes cardano happen and when I make a mistake in presenting about the cardano treasuries, I quite probably will jared is going to jump in and tell us exactly what I've got wrong so plea. Please, listen up for jared he's the voice of authority here. So next slide.

And next, so what? What is the cardano treasury? Well, fundamentally, what it is? It's like a real world treasury like the us federal treasury, it's like the bank of england uh in the uk and what it does is. It holds um central uh ada funds. uh They get topped up each epoch as a kind of taxation, we'll explain how that works in in a second and they can be allocated to users by cardano administrators next slide.

How are we doing? Well if, if we were the uk or the us, we would be doing extremely well. We would not be in trouble uh because the cardano treasury has been growing ever since we made the transition uh from the byron era into the shelley era, and it's reached quite a healthy stage. Now. This is important because the treasury is a war chest. It's there to help us fund work that we need to do on.

Cardano is there to help make things happen, so it's good that it's growing next slide we're currently at about 800 million ada, which is fantastic because this money you can spend to do all kinds of interesting things. So where does this come from? Well, fundamentally, it comes from two places: one is from expansion: monetary expansion from the cardano reserves, so the cardano reserves they're a fixed amount of ada that was put aside when the blockchain was created.

This ada is gradually being burnt down to expand the treasury to give us capability to do our new work, the other source, which is complementing that are the fees the blockchain is charging to process transactions etc and, as we start to see the blockchain being used more, so the proportion of uh funds are being contributed by the fees rather than the reserves is going to increase, and the plan is this should balance out uh in time and then, of course, we've also got the unspent treasury that we're carrying forward from the previous period.

Now in cardano, things work in terms of epochs and what that means is the treasury gets topped up every epoch by expansion from the reserves and by expansion from the fees by usage from the themes next slide.

How are the rewards calculated uh so, if you've been using cardano you'll be familiar with the reward structure? What happens is the reserves, uh the expansion reserves and the fees they're put into a pot a rewards pot and that part has been distributed in two ways? Eighty percent of it, the vast majority of it, goes into pool resort rewards. uh This is distributed uh through charges to each stake pause and it's also given out to the users.

So the majority of the expansion and the fees are going to the users and maintainers of the cardano blockchain 20 is going into the treasury next flight.

E

So how does this get used? Well, obviously, most obviously, from your perspective, it's currently being spent on catalyst projects. So these are things to do with the cardano ecosystem, making things better for all cardana users, which is a fantastic use of the funds that have been put aside.

E

In addition, what we will need to do is we will need to start dipping into the treasury to fund core cardano development. So all kinds of interesting things that are coming up as we roll forwards are through cardano at the moment, io is funding essentially all of the development on cardano, but that's going to change and the funding is going to come from the treasury. The eco core cardano development funding is going to come from the treasury.

It's going to be allocated to uh various developers to actually to propel things forward and in addition, there are also things that have to be paid for uh governance costs, uh systems, management costs, uh other costs, may maybe we can think about some kind of charitable donations.

um Maybe we can fund uh university courses to uh for cardano uh all kinds of interesting things could be done there as we move forward earth through the voltaire uh era, next slide danny.

E

How is our decisions taken so how the funds allocate at the moment? Well? First of all, but most importantly, at the moment we have voting on the capitalist side chain, so you're voting on the proposals. What happens once the votes are cast? Is there needs to be a tally? This is done using an automated system. I won't get into the details. It's all um very, um I would say, complicated, but there's there's a lot a lot to the process, but this is happening automatically.

Then there are a series of audit checks and validation, because you want to make sure that the funds that we disperse they're dispersed in the way you wanted them to be dispersed, they're dispersed to the people you wanted to be uh them to be dispersed to. These are real people. The threats are the kinds of checks that have to be uh that have to be gone through about 20 or 30 in total, having gone through the audit checks and validation. What we do is we prepare a funding plan.

The plan is passed on to our devops team, who then prefer prepare a number of mir our transactions now jazz on the core uh jared named these things, mirs, apparently, mri stands for make it rain. So these are. These are good things. Good things happen when you make it rain right.

E

Also, move itn rewards, that's the official version I like make it rain the mir transactions. These are signed off. This account signed by a set of governance keys. The government's keys hold the power here. Every make it rain uh transaction has to be signed off by the by the governance, keep by all the governance keys uh for it to happen. That's an important uh check on the system.

Once that's done, we can submit the proposals on to mainnet and then they're enacted the funds transferred into people's reward accounts uh pete, and the successful proposers get to do. The great work that they've proposed to do fantastic system works very well we're going to try and make this even smoother as we go forward next slide danny.

What's a central fines transfer, how does it work basically? Well, it works in two ways: uh there can be transfers between the treasury and the reserves. uh These are basically accounting moves that we we need to make from time to time to balance the books uh to balance the various major transfers.

E

This is analogous to the kind of transfer that happens in a central bank or similar and then the mil transactions. What these do generally is transfer funds to a series of rewards address. I I've labeled them as rewards address, one rules addressed to etc, and we can have about 301 mlir transactions. That means that a single transaction on the cardano mainnet can handle about 300 funds transfers to people's rewards accounts.

Obviously, if you've got 10, 000 people voting or participating in the system we're going to have about 300 or more transactions, quite a lot of work. To do to make that happen, that's why it can take a bit of time every one of those has to be signed off every one of those has to be checked, but the great thing is the cardano mainnet handles this more or less. Without a blip you, you barely notice the main net processing these.

It's a very, very efficient system, plenty of capacity to do this and much more besides plea. Please move on next slide, so that's all I had to say jared. I hope I've given a good presentation of what we're doing everyone else. One thing I should have said very important. What I'm describing here is the cardano treasury.

This is the central treasury, the funds that catalyst has available they're a subpart of this. The catalyst treasury is a subpart it's. The funds are allocated just to do just with catalyst proposals and and the rewards mechanisms.
