NSM + Istio across cluster communication
This demo shows how the default Istio booking example can be converted into an interdomain example via NSM. We'll run the demo on AWS and GKE clusters.

In this meetup Lazlo Bence Nagy shows an almost fully automated solution that can form and then sustain a multi-cluster Istio mesh using:
an open-source Istio operator, and a cluster registry controller component, which provides continuous synchronization for the necessary resources between the clusters. In this session, you will learn:
How to form a multi-cluster mesh with ease
How the necessary resources are synced between the clusters
How the system recovers even when network endpoints are changed

Service Mesh is becoming a key component in the Cloud Native world. It allows teams to connect, secure and observe complex microservices environments built on containers and container orchestration tools. But most Service Mesh tools are also very complex and require a lot of engineering overhead to deploy and maintain. In this talk, we will explore the considerations you have to take into account before you commit to a Service Mesh-based stack. I had the opportunity to help customers design around Istio (one of the most famous Mesh tools) and learned a lot through the years. This talk is a distilled experience of the learnings I had.

My blog is running on Istio
Many think that running Istio is hard due to its complexity, operational cost, and resource requirements. In my presentation I'd like to demystify the most popular service mesh by sharing details of my self-hosted infrastructure. He will share some details on how he can spin up an exact replica of his blog under seconds while having the extensive benefits of a service mesh, e.g. observability.

Demo: Scaling Istio in Large Clusters by Auto-Generating Sidecars
Sidecar resources are key to scaling Istio in large clusters, but configuring Sidecars requires a detailed registry of every given workload’s peers. What do you do if your org maintains no such registry? What if service names are dynamic? This is the story of how we used NetworkPolicies to auto-generate Sidecars for hundreds of services, spanning many technical orgs and teams.

Airbnb has been using an in-house service mesh called SmartStack since 2013. In the past 12 months, they migrated hundreds of production services onto our next generation of service mesh based on Istio. Come learn more about how we achieved service mesh migration with minimal service owner involvement and zero downtime. They will cover their migration strategy for different kinds of workloads and showcase the migration tool they built.

For large platforms that support hundreds of projects, it is vital to gain insight into the api response code, api response time, api numbers, while monitoring and precisely alerting. Istio can easily achieve these requirements, without any changes to service code. In addition, troubleshooting in a complex service mesh is always troublesome and time-cost. However, through integration of Istio and jaeger, they can combine client requests, tracing, Istio logs, and application logs altogether. In this way, when a problem occurs with the api, it is easy to locate. In this session, HP devops will share their best practices in cluster observability, hoping to bring useful references for everyone.

Configuring Custom Helm charts for complex setups is hard.
Specially when using Istio security, networking, and visibility features there is a prerequisite of learning Istio. Assuming you get all your R&D to learn Istio, what happens if you want to change your service mesh provider?
At Similarweb we created a new platform for serving and configuring Helm charts in a simple and intuitive way via UI that requires low maintenance and zero UI skills for infrastructure teams. We present the problem, the idea, and how you can solve it in a similar way for your organization.
