Welcome to the governance meeting, okay, so here's what um we got jenkins: release: 2.302 3.2, that's in progress elections, contributor summit coming on october 9 proposal to meet one hour later. Let's see if there was one more topic I wanted, which was oh mark, wait as a jep editor and then the question is: does that need governance, approval or is that some other process.

The first thing: it's a million, kills the discussion, and if there is consensus in the millionth list, there is no governance. Approval, okay and.

Work continues on it. Likewise for 2.3 2.315, it's visible in the artifact repository, but the release notes the documentation etc, not yet published, and the advisory associated with it is not yet published.

Cio jenkins, now, though, right it is oh yes, it is installed on on ci, dot, jenkins dot io. I saw that this morning, visible in docker images, um etc. Yeah um installable from the dev repositories.

Okay um on elections, anything else, so we've received some nominations. Apparently, so that's that's great, so gavin, I believe, you're part of the part of the the processing of those nominations so you've received some yeah.

Yeah well, and it was just he and I talking about the relatively low registration, so he hasn't brought it to the to the board yet well, we haven't.

uh Announced the elections, I mean we did a blog post, a few social media things, but that's it. I believe there was no mailing list announcement uh the same wrong and even though it's still complicated to get attraction for that, but yeah definitely need a more activity. For me, though, the biggest problem is officers.

So what we were doing last years, uh the election lead was reaching out to officers to board members to reconfirm the intention to run this year because from the government's birth standpoint, one of major risks is that we didn't have genius officer candidates.

So is it something being worker worked on.

I don't specifically know there has been some nomination for officers so far but, like I said there always needs more. So if there's not, I thought there was a mail, nice post, but I wasn't paying that much attention because I knew about it coming, so it probably doesn't hurt to do it again, anyways, even if it's not been so users and our users dev and uh the past uh elections right or past voters.

Yeah so generally, it makes sense to promote a voting signup after there are candidates published fair enough, but because there is some gap in the timeline, so the question is: rather, how would you ensure that there is enough candidates?

um So all roles are covered.

Yeah I thought that the timeline had the red voter registration, concurrent with nominations.

Well, I'm not sure about this here before that it wasn't like that. Okay, sorry, I was unable to really track uh this process this month,.

So, oh no, no there is. There is a one week period, okay, so here's what I've got. There's looking at the blog post, there's a one week period here, where um between october 31, the deadline for nomination and the announcement? No actually because of that registration deadline and candidate announce are the same date. So the current process did not give us knowledge. Disclosure of who the candidates are until after the voter registration period has reached its end, but I guess we could. We could certainly share that nominees.

There's this! Oh! No, this this really says candidates announced I mean we could. We could recommend a change there and announce candidates sooner so that we can then promote that middle of middle of october. Well,.

I think at this point it's olivier and evelina running it, so we can make the suggestion to make candidates earlier, but I think we should just blast everyone saying register to vote and hear the candidate or here you should nominate people and then we blast again saying: okay. Registration is closed. Now vote for your candidate.

I think it's that's actually the other way around. I think it was the once once registration closed. The voting would happen and I think at that point they just said. Okay, the the nominations are these. You know not really thinking about how long nominations be opened for.

Yeah and it's always a question of so for example- for me, uh one question is the events officer because currently I'm marketing convenience officer, but due to personal stuff, I wasn't able to actually do much.

I do things here and there, but definitely I could do more and yeah right now. I'm not sure who would be interested to take this role in the community.

Yeah I've been uh reaching out to our marketing department because the oktoberfest is running right now, it's a good thing to say: you know, thinking about hacktoberfest, any marketer type people are interested in getting involved with open source, but it hasn't really taken any it got anywhere. Yet.

Yeah uh but yeah generally, uh I'm not sure whether you mark and you olivia, so the templates from the previous election cycle, because we have a google doc email templates and that was specifically email template for officers just asking them: okay, whether you plan to run, if not, please, let us know as soon as possible and preferably make some nominations because yeah the what situation we can have is, for example, yeah. Let's say daniel decides on october 29th that he is not running for security officer and we have no other candidate and yeah.

It's actually a question of project sustainability. So that's why I would like to raise it. I will.

Yeah, so I just want to confirm that it will happen. I secured some time for that. We have several topics submitted.

Actually we lack proposals for unconference sessions, but I think that I will figure it out in the coming days, so the summit will happen still. It will be quite a low-skill event, uh but I hope that you will be able to gather some contributors and to have discussions.

I'm not sure only do you plan to join.

I don't think that I find the time on the weekend I planned for the last saturday.

So again, yeah yeah there were some changes and yeah. We will definitely need to think how to adjust beta but yeah. As all of you know, my life is currently famous working on that, uh but yeah the event will still happen. Hopefully there will be some outcomes.

And yeah, let's see how it goes, and one of my major to-do items is to actually update uh the roadmap, because this is our third contributor summit this year and we didn't update the roadmap since so even for february, contributor summit they've been already map updates. There are some basically open topics like no community jenkins. Are you on the roadmap?

If you talk some communication channels and yeah technical site is also quite behind the schedule.

Okay, so and oleg, are you envisioning that that's that shared as part of the project updates or is when you're saying roadmap updates, you're thinking the updates to the jenkins.io roadmaps, page yeah? I don't commit to do it.

Before the summit- okay, because well generally, I cannot because even if I submit a pull request, you'll need reviews from the bot members and yeah. I would prefer to not commit to do it until saturday.

Makes sense yeah there and there are plenty of things where we've made made good progress. Actually, that roadmap needs update. Java 17 preview is available, we've switched to java 11, we've got arm 64-bit and system 390 and power, pc images and those kinds of things so um so are.

You yeah, I think that uh yeah generally, we expect uh special interest groups and uh sub projects to submit updates for the roadmap, but it clearly doesn't happen.

uh So maybe there are some changes needed uh in how we're actually managing the roadmap, because the previous one was built with assumption that yeah there would be regular updates uh by project leaders, but right now, yeah the most of uh special interest groups are inactive um and yeah, even if they're active. So, for example, there is platform c, but you haven't received, update from platform 6 since february, and the roadmap for documentation is basically the same.

Even if you can plug the holes. Clearly the process doesn't work and yeah. Then we need to think how we change the process.

By the way, I'm currently working on the continuously foundation dlc roadmap and which we just use uh github project with the dashboard to save some time.

So my plan is to spend as less time on project updates as possible, so just a quick glance through updates here and there and then to focus on unconference and maybe under the user panel, because it was the most efficient part of the previous summit.

Maybe I can add, I think what what I propose is to change that we, when we start with a standard time and leave the daylight saving time, that it makes sense. Then we start at 9 utc, because most of us live here in the yeah on this side, where we have the standard time and now in november, so it makes sense to keep our local time the same, I thought utc was without.

um Times, without still saving this, it's the offset third daylight savings.

Utc is without, but our local time is, unfortunately, a kid schedule and whatever other schedule is in local time, so while it's generally better to have community meetings in utc than the royalty champion. Oh.

Well, I I think it's it's more acknowledging that it's okay, if, when when, when the governments meddle with the clocks, we accept that that disrupts us and we change our time to fit our best need julie. I think what you were saying is that, after the time after the clocks are changed, nine utc is better for you, because that holds the time con constant on your local calendar on your local time. For participants, because the whether it's I agree with gavin, whether it's one hour later or not, doesn't doesn't affect me much and it if it helps ooly with you and if it helps at all with oleg. That's the right thing for us to do then: yeah.

So for me currently, if we keep it on wednesdays, the schedule is more or less clear for the time being, so it's either before 5 30 local time, which is 3, 30 or 4 30, depending on the time zone in utc or after 10 p.m, local time, which is either eight or nine so so this is a good. This is a good match for you yeah. So current time is perfect great I mean there are still some risks, but generally it's the best possible time.

That has the time zone to something that has our. So the uotc is not adjusted. But if you did like your central european time that should adjust.

Adding me as a editor of jenkins enhancement proposals, the the the concern I think and oleg you asked a really good question: hey are there specific needs that are prompting that request, and I think it was the docker and the guava one ruby python we know is stalled and it would be a good one also to let's see what you call ruby deprecation.

Yeah, so for me, I think the significant issue is not pull request itself, but the fact that these pull requests are not associated with ongoing discussion in the mailing list. So for me yeah one of the problems that I just missed all requests in this repository, even though I'm job editor- and it should be on my dashboard.

If somebody else approves it first, I don't see it on my dashboard and I might be still late and yeah. I currently don't have much hope of uh processing called github notifications. They receive every day. uh So if there was ongoing discussion in the developer maryland list, then it would be easier just to drug these changes and to know that there are pending requests.

The main question is whether we need to finish uh the update of the jet process first, because we already have pending proposal um yeah, I'm not sure what the other governance board members have had a chance to review it, because we made a proposal together, we approved it.

So if you have okay, if you approve this change, then your job editors will be still a kind of bottleneck, but we will expect the majority of changes will to be driven actually by champions of the jets.

Well, for us uh basically uh job editors are not responsible for accepting ejecting. They are responsible just to ensure that the format is followed.

The rest is handled by the community in the current process or in the new process.

Yeah and- and I think I think I think what the goal I believe that tim has is: let's get those things so that the jet process is not perceived as a barrier to us in improving to doing the guava upgrade, and I don't think at this point that it is a barrier, but let's, let's just be sure, so no objections to me if acting as a job. Perceives it as better that we definitely could something could do something better, so yeah I suggest to just at all officers and board members as job editors period.

uh So editors, uh they basically ensure that the format is followed and for the rest of the changes they just do. Administrative thing basically accept the pull request when they're approved by the sponsor or by the bdfl delegate.

Editors do not make a decision whether is accepted or not it's in the current process, bdfl delegate, making this decision and if job one changes are accepted, I believe they accepted. We just need to finish them. It will be governance, meeting communities, making decision.

Okay, so adding more people doesn't mean more people can improve. It just means more people have eyes on it type thing.

uh Yeah so yeah there is some uh potential risk for mistakes. So, for example, somebody with merch permission can merge a pull request that it's not a uh well basically approved. So we had some.

I mean that's dealable with us and it's not necessarily changing with this so yeah. I don't think that's any issue with going.

Yeah, so I believe that everyone will act in a good intent anyway. Yeah some mistakes may happen. Okay, we can correct them, that's it.

So it's not like somebody merges pull requests and then we have a new open standard that hundreds of enterprises depend on that and we can never change it. It's not the case for our job process.

Again, dear goldberg, we all agreed that we need to do that.

So it's just well and and and and not only guava, the docker one is pretty much done right. We we proposed the jet and we we implemented it based on what was proposed.

I think it would be enough to, but but it didn't follow the rigorous process of being merged as a draft and assigned a jeff number, and so so it just. We just went ahead and took the liberty of doing it, assuming it was okay.

Yeah well, we discussed that in the manufacture, those consensus, but we do that right. So, in this case, job is just the documentation.

So yeah, if somebody said that I need more details, how the upgrade guidelines would be implemented or other things. Okay, it could require jeb to be finished first, but since everyone was on board to key.

Yeah yeah, I think I think it met our needs. I don't think it slowed us down. The process did not did not get in the way and- and we were able to do what we needed to do and the act of writing. The jab actually was quite helpful for me because it made me think much more clearly about what we were going to do exactly so. Yeah no objections.

Maybe just quick update from cdf2c.

um So here you have a pending topic on the roadmap for trc. uh There are a few jenkins related items. um So, first of all we press it is inclusive, naming initiative membership, so we have officially applied at the continuous delivery foundation and we officially asked that jenkins terminology clean up. He said: there's affiliated project there and yeah. There is pending action item to revisit our participation in marketing in october november.

So yeah, hopefully we will discuss it in a few weeks. So alexa was already they just asked for some assistance. Somebody to join for interview, maybe reached out to alexa. He was up to doing that, so we will just need to recover this contact.

Okay and what else interesting there, so there was a application from jenkins, kubernetes operator to be a project in the country's lyria foundation.

So the cdf2c reviewed that and basically our feedback was that we do not see why it has to be separate project and the ball is on the request side to revisit it and to address our commands because yeah, basically at that point uh the project didn't seem to be distinguishable enough from jenkins in terms of ecosystem community. So we didn't seem to be justified enough to have a separate project.

So I'm mentioning it because it was one of concerning topics.

So what else um yeah so dicktone is preparing to.

Plan for graduate status and what is important for us, the scheduling, external security audit, so the step we skipped one year ago, when you were doing uh jenkins graduation but yeah once uh tipton plays the way we might want to revisit the jenkins security audit yeah. I know that the security audit would be a massive endeavor, so it's definitely something we should talk about after the election.

I'm not sure whether daniel wants to remain security officer- let's see but yeah, once everything settled on that front, I think that we will need to at least discuss external order.

And yeah there are also discussions about infrastructure, of course, so stay tuned. This topic may come again to us, um but yeah right now. There is just uh an expectation from uh jenkins sorry cdf, governing board that the infrastructure cost for the continuous delivery foundation is reduced.

Budgets remain the same for the time being, but it might be a question yeah. There was a discussion whether we applied for microsoft uh sponsorship again uh in the governor's board, but yeah uh in the next year. It might become a problem to handle.

And that one worries me worries me significantly so yeah, let's be sure we have that discussion.

Yeah, let's see so sponsorship wise, we can find some options. I'm not too concerned you just need to plan in advance, especially if we need to invent various multi-cloud solutions. To be honest, I would rather prefer to avoid that, but yeah at the same time, finding cash specifically for microsoft, azure might be a problem too right.

Okay, so there will be a day of jenkins japan in december. There is still opportunity for someone to present I reached out to several community members who speak japanese, but here there are open slots.

I think so uh well my personal I was presenting last year there and my experience that yeah. Basically, if you don't speak japanese, it's not the best experience neither for audience nor for a speaker because yeah, basically you do presentations and pre-recorded.

Then it's translated to japanese without actually proofreading when there is a presentation played just by recording and speaker even cannot answer questions, so the both tries to answer questions on their own, uh somehow so yeah. Last time I participated, I don't think that it's great for anyone, so aqui hero will be presenting uh there and yeah. Hopefully we will have more people involved.
