B
Everyone
I'm
Chris
Hernandez,
and
this
is
the
weekly
report.
Your
look
at
news
from
the
city
of
Kansas,
City
Missouri,
the
mayor
and
other
city
leaders
use

Kc

this
week
may
is
Bike
Month
and
the
city
has
been
holding
public
forums
to
gather
feedback
about
the
city's
bike
plans.
There's.
C
Been
a
lot
of
talk
about
biking
and
walking,
and
things
in
the
city
that
need
to
be
addressed
and
I
think
that
I
can
tell
you
that
we
agree
they
need
to
be
addressed
as
soon
as
possible.
The
bottom
line
is
that
we
recognize
that
the
more
things
that
we
can
do
to
facilitate
other
forms
of
transportation
other
than
cars,
the
better
the
fitting
will
be,
the
more
residents
will
like
it
and
the
work
and
the
healthier
will
be,
and
also
the
cleaner,
environmentally
will
be
so
I
want
to
thank
bike.
C
B
And
we
need
your
patience.
If
you
miss
the
bike
tasting
meetings,
you
can
still
provide
feedback
online
at
KC
momentum.
Org,
where
comments
are
being
collected
about
the
city's
planning
efforts,
you
may
have
received
a

recently
about

The

making
KC

up-and-coming

and
now
you
can

G
Hi
I'm
Scott
Hanover,
the
director
of
tennis
at
the
Plaza
Tennis
Center,
welcome
to
the
2017
season,
lots
of
exciting
things
to
tell
you
about.
For
our
kids,
we
start
with
the
basics,
so
we
have
lots
of
lessons
for
kids,
10
and
under.
We
call
that
Quick
Start
tennis
and
they
can
come
out
and
play
with
a
red,
orange
or
green
dot,
tennis
ball.
G
We
have
brackets
that
are
appropriately
sized
and
we
have
a
lot
of
fun
every
hour,
we'll
have
camps
and
lessons
throughout
the
summer
for
kids
that
have
been
playing
a
little
while
this
year
we
are
offering
non
elimination
tournament.
They
are
in
conjunction
with
the
US
Tennis
Association.
It's
a
great
opportunity
to
play
in
a
one-day
tournament
play
a
lot
of
matches,
make
a
lot
of
new
friends
and
get
the
tennis
experience
over
in
just
a
day
or
possibly
even
a
half
a
day
that
will
be
offered
for
several
different
age
division.
G
I
will
have
about
three
of
those
that
cover
kids
if
you're,
even
a
little
bit
better
than
that
we
have
traditional
usth,
sanctioned
tournaments.
We
will
offer
a
number
of
those
from
our
plaza
junior
open
the
week,
which,
every
year
to
a
five
state
area
of
Missouri
Valley
features
to
the
sweet
16,
which
is
the
best
16th
into
five
state
area.
That's
a
great
spectator
event
and
I
encourage
everybody
to
come
out
the
week
of
June
13th
and
watch
some
with
the
best
kids
in
the
country,
and
they
might
try
to
qualify
for
national
championships.
G
We
haven't
forgotten
about
the
adults.
There
is
plenty
of
tennis
for
you
all
this
spring
summer
and
fall
as
well.
Of
course,
we
offer
their
traditional
tennis
clinics,
we
have
beginner
advanced,
beginner
and
intermediate.
We
offer
those
on
Monday,
Tuesdays
and
Wednesdays
throughout
the
entire
season.
If
you
were
ready
to
play
tennis,
we
have
lots
of
experiences
there
as
well.
G
On
Mondays
and
Tuesdays,
we
offer
World
Team
Tennis
World
Team
Tennis
day
fun,
flexible
format
invented
by
Billie,
Jean
King,
where
men
and
women
are
on
a
team
together
of
similar
skill
level,
you
play
singles,
doubles
and
mixed
all
in
a
quick
to
our
formats.
You
can
play
with
your
friends
teammates
coworkers,
or
we
can
help
you
find
a
team
if
you're
kind
of
new
to
town
or
do
two
tennis
in
the
area
and
are
looking
to
get
placed
on
a
team
on
Wednesday
night.
You
have
our
social
leads.
G
We
are
trying
to
operate
beginner
socially,
so
folks
that
want
to
have
kind
of
their
first
lead
tennis
experience
and
have
a
little
bit
of
a
clinic
background.
This
would
be
the
opportunity
for
you
to
play
on
Wednesdays
for
the
more
advanced
players.
We
have
an
intermediate
social
League.
These
are
fun
and
flexible
and
offered
it
at
different
times
each
week.
G
So
people
can
come
out
for
those
kc
crew
also
offers
some
social
leagues
for
young
people
on
Wednesday
night
Thursdays,
there's
still
activity
going,
one
of
our
new
favorites,
the
last
couple
years
is
called
steps
in
the
city.
Septimus
city
is
designed
for
18
to
39
year
old.
They
take
all
different
skill
levels
with
my
games.
We
do
drills,
we
sit
afterwards
socialize
and
it's
really
just
a
fun
time,
and
we
do
that
in
cooperation
with
the
USGA
part
of
America
District.
G
So
we
appreciate
their
cooperation
in
trying
to
reach
out
to
the
Millennials
that
want
to
continue
to
play
tennis.
Also
on
Thursday
night
Kansas
City's
LGBT
group,
the
Kansas
City
tennis
Alliance
meets
regularly
as
well
as
of
complaints
in
us,
and
we
can
hook
you
up
with
that
organization.
If
you'd
like
to
play
with
tennis
for
those
folks
as
well
of
course,
offer
traditional
adult
tournaments.
G
We
have
the
Kansas
City
Open
at
the
heart
of
America
championships
and
for
the
eleventh
straight
year
we
are
super
proud
to
be
hosting
the
USTA
national
husband-and-wife
hard
court
mixed
Championships.
That
will
be
the
weekend
of
June
9
10
11,
again
come
out
watch
some
of
the
best
play.
My
country
compete
for
the
gold
ball
and
a
national
title.
The
Plaza
Tennis
Center
is
conveniently
located
on
the
southeast
corner
of
the
Country
Club
Plaza
shopping
area
right
across
from
the
JC
Nichols
fountain.

H
Festa
italiana
is
a
free,
family-friendly
festival
that
happens
at
Sona
Rosa
on
June,
2nd
through
the
4th
and
is
supported
by
the
neighborhood
Tourist
Development
Fund
here,
to
tell
us
more
about
the
event
and
a
little
historical
background
about
the
organization
behind
the
event,
its
Jonas
taffy
Joe.
Thank
you
for
having
us
here
today
at
Zona,
Rosa
on
the
square
and
I
understand
that
there
is
an
organization
that
is
behind
the
event
and
that
Festa
italiana
has
been
going
on
for
quite
a
while.
H
I
It's
it's
an
event
that
we
try
to
do
to
raise
funds
for
our
charities,
but
at
the
same
time
it's
an
event
that
we
can
express
our
Italian
heritage
to
the
to
the
community,
and
Munich
has
been
behind
that
event.
That's
tank
festival
since
probably
going
on
since
the
1970s
there
about
this
is
our
13th
year
here
at
Zona
Rosa.
What.
H
I
We
like
to
think
of
it
as
a
family
event.
You
know
for
everybody,
the
young
and
the
old
and
everybody
in
between
right
and
we.
The
event,
if
you
can
imagine,
is
celebrating
everything
that
we
like
to
think
our
you
know
we
like
to
express
as
far
as
arcane
heritage.
So
if
you
can
imagine
that
there's
going
to
be
a
lot
of
food
throughout
the
event
throughout
the
three
days
that
we're
here,
you
can
taste
just
about
any
anything,
that's
related
to
attain
type
food.
I
I
But
then
also
we
have
a
couple
of
national
type
performers
that
will
be
during
primetime
Friday
night
Saturday
night,
so
food,
entertainment
wine
there's
a
car
show
on
Sunday,
which
is
very
nice
of
all
the
a
lot
of
Italian
Motorsports
type
cars,
Ferraris
Lamborghinis,
also
the
Italian
motorcycles,
Ducati,
etc
that
those
clubs
have
gotten
behind
the
Italian
festival
and
they'll.
Be
here
on
Sunday,
we
haven't
attained
mass
on
Sunday
as
well.
I
D
I
I
Know
it's
interesting.
We
we
kind
of
do
an
informal
survey
every
year
to
see
where
people
are
coming
from
and
we've
had
a
I
guess
our
13th
year
here,
zona
rosa,
but
we
have
you
know,
we've
see
the
same
people
we've
up
to
them
and
ask
them,
but
there's
contingencies
that
come
from
Oklahoma
City,
Des,
Moines,
Omaha.
I
Parts
of
Kiel
western
Kansas
I
mean
so
that
we'd
say
probably
as
a
percentage
outside
of
the
Kansas
City
metropolitan
area.
How
many
good
10%
of
that
is
coming
from
those
other
areas
and
they
come
every
year
and
it's
gotten
a
regional
kind
of
reputation
of
as
an
event
that
people
like
to
come
to
it's
pretty.
So
it's
a
helps
to
you
know
it's
an
event
that
you
can
make
a
weekend
out
of
it.
If
you
really
wanted
to
and.
H
I
Actually,
the
website
is
Unicode
Casey,
Unicode,
Kansas,
City,
dot,
org
and
there
you
would
find
all
the
events
for
the
three
days,
plus
a
little
bit
more
about
what
you
Nicole
is
all
about.
As
you
can
find
in
there
are
our
history
and
everything
there's
a
lot
of
information
there.
We
also
have
a
Facebook
page
if.
D
I
Will
where
a
unicode
KC,
where
you
can
find
information
about
this
event?
Those
are
probably
the
two
biggest
things.
We
also
have
a
publication
that
we
put
on
for
the
event
that
has
a
lot
of
good
information
and
that's
going
to
be
available
at
a
lot
of
the
hanger
restaurants
in
town
and
also
the
grocery
stores
in
town.
We
give
those
away.
So
those
were
probably
the
three
best
places
to
get
more
information.
You've.

Summertime
is
a
great
time
to
have
a
lot
of
fun
in
and
around
water,
but
did
you
know
that
more
than
3,500
people
drown
every
year?
B
K
Thank
you
all
for
coming
out
today,
and
we
really
can't
tell
you
how
excited
we
are
about
this
day
and
we've
been
working
on
it
for
about
a
year,
and
this
is
125th
anniversary
of
Kansas
City
Parks.
We
wanted
to
make
sure
we
did
something
big
and
something
that
would
have
an
impact
on
the
community.
So
our
goal
is
to
teach
1125
people
to
swim
and
levels.
One
and
two
through
free,
swim
lessons
this
summer,
and
you
know
we
think
about
kids
in
that
path,
for
the
good
we're
targeting.
K
But
there
is
no
age
limit,
so
those
parents
that
have
been
a
little
hesitant
to
take
their
kids
to
the
pool
or
take
their
kids
swimming.
We
encourage
them
to
come.
Take
those
level
one
and
choose,
as
well
as
Mark
said,
is
a
tragedy
that
none
of
us
want
to
ask
see
and
if
we
can
prevent
it
by
teaching
kids
to
swim,
then
that's
what
we're!
After
for.
B
More
