A
Hi
everyone
and
welcome
to
the
weekly
report,
I'm
laura
ish
with
the
office
of
environmental
quality,
and
I'm
here
at
the
anita
b
gorman
conservation
discovery
center.
To
tell
you
the
top
three
things
you
need
to
know
this
week.
Earth
day
is
just
around
the
corner
and
the
city
is
hosting
a
number
of
cleanup
events
to
celebrate.
A
You
can
make
a
difference
in
your
own
neighborhood,
get
a
list
and
sign
up
for
the
city
sponsored
cleanups
at
kcmo.gov.
Cleanup
upgrading
to
energy.
Star
appliances
is
a
great
way
to
save
energy,
water
and
money.
Each
year
the
city
and
the
state
of
missouri
participate
in
the
show
me
green
sales
tax
holiday.
If
you're
in
need
of
a
new
furnace,
refrigerator
or
other
major
appliance
between
april
19th
and
april
25th.
Qualified
energy
star
appliances
up
to
fifteen
hundred
dollars
are
sales
tax
free
over
the
last
few
years.
A
The
city
has
been
making
big
improvements
to
the
paseo
gateway
area,
new
apartments,
removal
of
a
blighted,
motel
and
other
mixed-use
developments
with
public
and
private
partnerships
have
already
been
constructed.
Now
the
paseo
boulevard
and
independence
avenue
intersection
is
being
reconstructed.
The
project
will
reduce
accidents
at
the
intersections
of
paseo
boulevard
and
independence.
Avenue
provide
a
safer
and
improved
experience
for
motorists.
Pedestrians
and
bicycle
travel,
improve
public
transit
access
and
reduce
storm
water
runoff
to
the
combined
sewer
system.
Thank
you
for
watching
the
weekly
report.
A
B
C
C
Well,
I
am
a
able-bodied
willing
person
to
get
out
there
and
do
something
it's
an
action
I
can
take
getting
outside
and
physically
picking
up
a
piece
of
trash
or
litter
is
something
that
I
can
do
and
turn
around
and
physically
see
how
I've
made
a
difference
in
a
stretch
of
land
or
in
a
park.
I
would
just
like
to
encourage
people
to
get
out
there
and
clean
up
trash
on
their
own
when
they
have
time
available
and
take
their
family
along
make
it
a
family
event
enjoy
outside
and
and
pick
up.
B
D
E
The
fact
that
we
got
the
choice,
neighborhood
grant
a
competitive
process
that
we
went
through
and
we
were
able
to
get
30
million
dollars
to
allow
us
to
get
rid
of
the
old
choto
ports.
We
said
we
would
do
a
host
of
other
projects
as
well,
and
this
is
one
of
them
here
today-
a
12
million
dollar
project
that
will
allow
us
to
redo
this
entire
intersection,
set
up
new
points
of
entry
to
hopefully
create
a
new
development
opportunity
here
in
northeast
for
a
long.
F
I
So
this
is
our
annual
ibuild
event,
it's
a
chance
to
bring
in
students
and
have
them
interact
with
employers
in
various
industries,
construction,
construction,
trades
we've
got
a
number
of
exhibitors
and
they're
looking
for
students
coming
out
of
high
school.
This
program
is
really
designed
to
educate
students
on
the
opportunities
career
opportunities
that
are
out
there
for
them
good,
paying
jobs
good
paying
careers
that
don't
necessarily
require
a
college
degree
and
helping
to
connect
employers
in
that
space
with
students
and
job
opportunities.
I
Frankly,
one
of
the
things
that
is
out
there
talking
to
businesses,
construction
businesses
is
the
need
for
well-trained
individuals
and
and
there's
lots
of
career
opportunity
and
there's
work.
There's
work
to
be
done
and
the
availability
of
skilled
labor
is
a
big
component
on
the
ability
of
construction
companies
to
get
it
done.
If
you're
not
inclined
to
to
the
college
kind
of
experience,
what
you
can
do
is
find
actually
a
career
that
will
pay
extremely
well
provide
additional
opportunities
for
career
advancement
without
lugging
around
a
big,
a
big
college
bill
at
the
end
of
it.
I
So
it's
a
great
opportunity
to
put
you
ahead
of
the
game.
From
from
an
economic
perspective,
we've
got
a
great
open
space,
significant
room
for
our
exhibitors
to
set
up
their
spaces
to,
and
room
for
the
kids
to
come
in
and
interact
with
them.
We
can
get
in
heavy
equipment
and
and
set
things
up,
and
it's
a
nice
open
space
and
people
can
move
around
and
and
we'll
have
a
thousand
kids
are
better
in
here
and
you
won't
feel
like
people
are
sitting
on
top
of
it.
I.
G
I
What
gets
lost
is
that
there
are
great
opportunities
for
people
without
necessarily
going
to
college,
and
I
think
there's
this
inadvertent
push
to
go.
Do
that
whether
or
not
it's
the
best
the
best
fit
for
a
particular
student,
so
the
opportunity
to
expose
them
to
career
opportunities
that
don't
require
you
to
go.
Do
that
when
you're
not
inclined
to
a
four-year
college
education.
This
is
a
great
thing
to
do.
