A
B
Everyone
I'm
Chris
Fernandez,
and
this
is
the
weekly
report,
a
look
at
news
from
the
city
of
Kansas,
City
Missouri,
the
gem
theater
hosted
the
inaugural
ceremonies
last
Saturday
from
air
Sly
James
and
the
new
city
council.
The
2015
through
19
term,
is
the
second
for
Mayor
James
and
it
also
features
nine
new
members
on
the
City
Council
who
joined
three
returning
members
residents
and
city
staff
turned
out
for
the
ceremony,
which
started
with
the
presentation
of
the
colors
and
a
very
jazzy
national
anthem,
performed
by
grammy-nominated,
jazz
musician,
bobby
watson.
C
So
today
we
renew
our
laser
focus
on
the
vision
that
we
have
to
make
Kansas
City
best
and
to
this
I
pledge
my
very
best
effort
as
your
mayor
each
and
every
day.
For
those
who
know
me,
they
know
that
there
is
no
greater
honor
that
I
have
no
greater
pride,
that
I
hold
than
to
be
able
to
work
on
behalf
of
the
city
that
I've
loved
my
entire
life
I,
don't
believe
in
games,
I,
don't
believe
in
politics.
I
believe
in
results.
E
Do
solemnly
swear
that
I
possess
all
qualifications
of
the
office
of
council
member
under
the
charter
of
Kansas
City
Missouri,
adopt
invited
vote
of
the
people
of
says,
City,
August,
8,
2006
and
all
subsequent
amendments
thereto
and
I'm,
not
subject
to
any
disqualifications
inside
shorter
named
that
I
would
support
the
Constitution
in
laws
in
the
United
States
and
of
the
state
of
Missouri
I.
That
I
will
observe
the
provisions
of
the
Charter
analysis
of
Kansas
City
that
I
will
faithfully
discharge
the
duties
upset
officer.
Let
me
God,
you
are
swanee.
B
The
city
is
calling
on
residents
to
review
animal
health
and
public
safety
ordinances
and
to
suggest
improvements.
Last
year,
Kansas
City's
animal
health
and
public
safety
officers
rescued
more
than
3,900
abused
and
neglected
animals
by
bringing
them
to
the
city-owned
animal
shelter
for
care.
Nearly
all
of
those
rescues
were
a
direct
result
of
the
city's
response
to
calls
placed
to
the
city's
311
call
center
by
concerned
citizens
who
wish
to
intervene
on
behalf
of
an
animal
in
each
of
these
cases.
B
Animal
control
officers
are
required
to
uphold
the
civil
rights
of
Kansas
City
residents,
while
also
acting
in
the
best
interest
of
the
animal
chapter.
14
of
Kansas
City's
Code
of
Ordinances,
as
well
as
the
fourth
and
fifth
amendments
to
the
United
States
Constitution
outlines
the
proper
processes
and
regulations
for
how
officers
must
conduct
their
work.
The
city
is
now
calling
on
residents
to
review
the
city's
regulations
and
to
suggest
improvements
that
may
help
the
city's
enforcement
of
both
animal
and
human
rights.

The
North
patrol
division
of
the
Kansas
City
Missouri,
Police
Department
otherwise
known
as
the
bumblebee
for
its
black
and
yellow
coloring,
is
moving
to
a
new
location.
The
new
station
will
replace
the
current
one
at
1001
northwest
berry
road,
police
and
city
officials
held
a
groundbreaking
ceremony
at
the
side
of
the
future.
Building
at
11,000
northwest
Prairie,
View
Road
police
chief
Daryl
Forte,
says
the
new
facility
will
be
a
benefit
to
the
Northland
residents
and
the
KCPD
members
who
work
there.
H
This
is
an
excellent
opportunity,
not
just
to
talk
about.
We
care
about
our
staff
to
give
them
a
facility
that
they're
worthy
of
and
again
I
want
to.
Thank
the
voters
out
there
for
twice
approving
the
Public
Safety
sales
tax-
that's
huge!
Without
that
this
wouldn't
be
happening,
and
again
this
is
another
opportunity
for
officers
to
note
that
our
community
cares
about
them
as
well.
As
our
you
know,
elected
officials
and
other
people
that
they're
involved
in
this.
The.
G
I
G
J
Excited
I
think
for
us
is
going
to
be
the
ability
for
to
have
citizens
in
our
station
to
have
a
comfortable
meeting
room
for
everybody
to
gather
and
for
officers
to
have
a
more
comfortable
place
when
they
prepare
for
their
shift
to
work
during
their
shift
facilities.
The
locker
rooms
are
larger
for
them
to
prepare
for
their
duty
and
forend
for
their
duty
and
places
for
us
to
part.
The
current
station
is
very
crowded.
J
G
Existing
station
opened
in
1976
with
about
15
employees.
Now
there
are
more
than
90.
The
old
building
has
many
problems,
including
cramped
offices,
lack
of
parking,
nowhere
to
put
prisoners,
roofing
issues
in
very
small
rooms
for
lockers
workout
facilities
and
storage.
Chief
Forte
says
the
new
project
will
be
unique.
This.
H
Unique
and
that
the
city
manager
had
a
vision
to
reduce
costs,
but
you
know
I
think
we
all
want
to
do
to
have
some
land
it's
already
owned
by
the
city
and
to
bring
us
in
this
part
of
the
Northland,
which
will
be
huge
for
for
this
part
of
North
things.
They
want
better,
better
police
service
up
here.
They
want
better
visibility
up
here.
It's
just
the
perfect
opportunity
to
begin
that
process.
