From YouTube: The Weekly Report - June 9, 2022
Description
This week on the Weekly Report Solarize KC is a program to help the people of Kansas City get solar technology for their homes and the cost savings that would benefit them. The North Troost Trail was opened last week and a ribbon cutting celebrated that event. Juneteenth celebrations will happen next week and some trash services will be affected.
A
Hi
everyone
and
welcome
to
the
weekly
report,
I'm
chris
hernandez
with
city
communications,
and
here
are
the
top
three
things
you
should
know
this
week.
We
are
at
the
ignition
lab
to
launch
a
special
program
called
solarize
kc.
Have
you
ever
wanted
to
install
solar
at
your
house,
but
thought
that's
kind
of
expensive.
A
This
program
takes
care
of
that
problem.
In
fact,
this
is
a
program
that
helps
homeowners
and
businesses.
Add
solar
power
to
their
properties.
The
secret
here
is
that
the
program
buys
solar
infrastructure
in
bulk
to
lower
costs.
Solarize
kc
is
now
accepting
registrations
and
interested
residents
can
learn
more
at
kcmo.gov.
A
We
have
the
link,
so
you
can
sign
up
to
be
the
first
in
line
for
a
free
evaluation.
Let's
get
outside
this
summer,
a
new
one
and
a
half
mile
trail
has
opened
as
a
connection
in
the
northland.
It's
part
of
the
kc
trails
plan
of
the
casey
parks
department,
the
north
truce
trail
near
vivian,
road
and
49th
street
connects
inglewood
park
to
the
north
end
of
the
northeast
vivian
road
trail.
The
city's
goal
is
to
build
trails
throughout
the
city
that
connects
trails,
cities,
neighborhoods
businesses
and
parks.
A
The
city
is
always
aggressively
looking
for
grants
to
help
fund
these
trail
projects.
Metro,
green
plan
and
trails
kc
plan
have
been
the
blueprint
for
the
kansas
city
metro
trail
system.
In
the
last
year,
just
under
three
miles
of
trail
segments
have
been
completed
in
the
big
shoal
creek
greenway
and
north
truce
trails.
The
juneteenth
festival
is
back
at
18th
and
vine
and
it's
on
june
18th
come
join.
A
The
fun
juneteenth
is
the
oldest
celebration
commemorating
the
end
of
slavery
in
the
united
states
this
year,
as
usual,
it's
being
held
in
the
18th
and
vine
district
right
there
at
the
greg
kleist
community
center.
The
kc
juneteenth
festival
includes
music,
entertainment,
vendors,
food
and
more
even
if
you
missed
the
parade
on
june
4th,
you
still
have
time
to
join
that
fine
art
festival
on
june
18th
from
noon
to
9
00
pm.
A
Thanks
for
watching
the
weekly
report,
I'm
chris
hernandez,
don't
forget.
City
offices
are
closed
on
monday
june
20th
in
honor
of
the
juneteenth
holiday,
and
yes,
that
means
the
trash
and
recycling
collection
will
be
pushed
one
day
throughout
the
week
have
a
great
summer,
everyone
and
stay
tuned
for
these
great
videos.
B
What
why
solar
well
again?
The
first
first
thing
is:
you
can
convert
that
never-ending
expense
that
you're
going
to
pay
the
utility
and
actually
make
it
an
investment.
You
can
convert
that
expense
into
an
investment
and
actually
get
a
return
on
that
investment
and
solar
works
is
a
hedge
against
raising
utility
rates.
It
seems
like
everything
is
going
up
now,
including
the
cost
of
electricity,
but
because
there's
very
little
in
operating
and
maintenance
required
and
the
the
source
of
the
power
the
sun
is
for
free.
C
We
had
a
one
one
time
our
neighbor
had
to
plug
into
our
house
because
they
were
out
of
power
and
we
had
some.
So
it's
always
been
in
the
back
of
my
mind,
and
so
I've
always
wanted
to
have
that
resiliency
that
a
battery
wall
will
offer.
I'm.
D
E
We
are
here
to
celebrate
a
project
that
I
I
just
found
out
was
discussed
as
far
back
as
2009..
This
trail
takes
us
along
north
troost
and
northeast
49th,
all
the
way
up
to
englewood
park
today.
F
We're
so
fortunate
to
see
this
beautiful
end
result
which
is
going
to
be
an
extraordinary
opportunity
for
children
and
families
and
communities,
people
with
special
needs.
This
trail
is
so
great
and
it
works
for
all
abilities
and
we're
really
happy
that
we
have
this
opportunity
to
launch
this
today.
