A
B
Everyone
I'm
Chris
Fernandez,
and
this
is
the
weekly
report,
a
look
at
news
from
the
city
of
Kansas
City
Missouri.
Recently,
the
KCMO
City
Council
approved
a
resolution
directing
the
city
to
reject
all
future
investment
in
fossil
fuel
companies.
Also,
within
five
years,
the
city
will
divest
all
current
fossil
fuel
assets
from
the
KCMO
Employees
Retirement
System
and
the
firefighters
pension
system.
Fourth
District
at-large
Councilwoman
Katheryn
shields
and
Mayor
Sly
James
Co
introduced
this
resolution.
B
The
City
Council's
endorsement
of
divestment
sends
a
strong
message
that
they
understand
the
seriousness
of
the
climate
crisis
and
it
reinforces
the
city's
continued
commitment
to
sustainability,
although
the
weather
so
far,
this
winter
has
been
more
delightful
than
frightful.
It's
important
to
be
prepared
for
snow
and
extreme
cold.
The
following
tips
will
help:
keep
you
safe
and
help
make
the
city's
snow
operations
run
smoothly
and
efficiently
avoid
parking
on
city
streets
when
it
snows.
B
But
if
you
must,
please
use
the
north
or
west
side
of
the
street,
so
snow
removal
crews
can
do
their
job
if
vehicles
are
parked
on
both
sides
of
a
narrow
street.
It
may
not
leave
enough
space
for
a
snow.
Plow
to
get
through
and
that
street
might
be
skipped,
do
not
park
on
signed
emergency
snow
routes,
vehicles
parked
on
those
routes
may
be
ticketed
or
towed
during
snowstorms
to
report
slick
spots
or
miss
streets.
Please
wait
until
the
next
business
day
after
the
snow
stops
falling
to
call
311
or
tweet
2
at
KCMO
311.
B
This
allows
snow
removal,
crews
adequate
time
to
complete
multiple
passes
on
all
assigned
snow
routes.
If
you
must
go
out
during
storms,
keep
water
and
blankets,
or
an
extra
coat
in
your
car
for
warmth
and
keep
the
gas
tank
full
make
sure
your
vehicle
has
adequate
tire
tread
to
avoid
getting
stuck

C
D
During
this
time
of
the
holidays
in
the
flu
season,
we
want
to
talk
about
the
importance
of
hand-washing.
Hand-Washing
is
important
to
keep
from
spreading
disease
and
to
keep
everyone
in
your
family
and
your
friends.
Healthy
hand-washing
is
very
important,
especially
when
we're
dealing
with
children
as
well.
We
want
to
make
sure
we
have
the
kids
wash
their
hands
for
a
certain
amount
of
time,
so
we'll
go
through
the
steps
and
talk
about
the
best
way
to
wash
our
hands
we'll
start
with
the
warm
water
wet
your
hands
use.
D
So
we
recommend
using
a
liquid
soap
or
a
foam
soap
scrub
your
hands
for
20
seconds.
The
friction
from
washing
your
hands
with
the
soap
in
the
water
is
what
helps
to
get
the
bacteria
off
of
your
hands.
Remember
to
wash
around
the
tops
of
your
hands
in
between
your
fingers
as
well
as
under
your
fingernails.
It's
sometimes
fun
to
have
the
children,
say
their
ABCs
or
sing
a
song,
something
like
twinkle
twinkle
little
star
to
remind
them
to
wash
for
at
least
20
seconds.
D
After
that,
you
want
to
reach
your
hands
for
at
least
10
seconds
get
a
towel,
preferably
a
paper
towel
or
something
that's
disposable,
dry
your
hands
and
then
turn
off
the
water
hand.
Sanitizer
is
not
the
most
effective
way
of
killing
germs.
On
your
hand,
hand-washing
is
always
the
best.
If
you're
unable
to
get
to
a
sink
with
soap
and
water,
you
can
use
hand
sanitizer
so
always
remember,
wash
your
hands
to
keep
from
spreading
illness

FYI,

E
E
Nikita
was
assigned
to
the
kansas
city
zoo
after
we
opened
polar
bear
passage
that
sort
of
how
it
works
in
the
suitable
world
that
there's
assignments
and
transfers,
and-
and
that
happens
all
the
time
with
a
number
of
animals,
now
we're
at
a
point
that
we
brought
in
a
female
berlin
a
few
years
ago.
She
had
kind
of
a
long
story,
long
history,
it
had
been
with
a
male,
never
produced
Cubs.
He
was
at
the
Duluth
Minnesota
Zoo
and
they
had
some
flooding
that
happened.
She
was
able
to
swim
out.
E
The
SSP
took
a
look
at
that
kind
of
North.
American
zoo
population
and
saw
Peeta
was
here
without
a
female,
so
we
paired
him
up
and
she
did
come
in
to
her
heat
cycles,
all
all
the
breeding
seasons
that
she
was
here
and
it
just
just
wasn't
meant
to
be
so
then
what
do
we
do
with
Nikita
he's
a
he's?
A
young
bear
he
a
potential
breeder
and
again
SS
being
bumped
around
the
country
and
said
you
know:
we've
got
this
14
year
old,
fair
female
young
female.
E
She
hasn't
had
Cubs,
but
she
is
in
the
prime
of
her
breeding
age
and
the
best
thing
for
polar
bears
in
North.
American
isms
is
to
move
Nikita
to
North
Carolina
to
pair
up
with
her
get
a
lot
of
questions
on.
Why
didn't
you
just
bring
the
female
to
Kansas,
City
pragmatically
scientifically
transferring
the
females
it's
best
if
she
can
remain
settled
in
and
not
disturb
her?
E
So
Nikita's
going
to
be
here
at
the
zoo
through
the
New
Year's
weekend
and
we're
arranging
to
transport
him
to
North
Carolina
during
up
probably
at
first
whole
week
in
January.
How
do
you
get
a
polar
bear
from
Kansas
City
of
North
Carolina?
That's
always
a
question.
It
comes
up
and
basically,
we
will
have
a
refrigerated
truck,
will
turn
the
temperature
down
buzz
loans
that
will
go
in
there.
E
The
colder,
the
better
and
we'll
have
chase
vehicle
with
veterinarians
and
keepers
will
have
a
closed
circuit
camera
on
him
in
the
in
the
semi
trailer
that
they
can
watch
in
the
vehicle.
Stop
probably
every
hour
two
hours
to
check
on
him.
So
they're
cruising
down
the
interstate
they'll
radio,
each
other,
hey.
Let's
pull
into
this
rest,
stop
they'll,
open
the
door
check
and
make
sure
he's
okay,
if
any
little
water,
something
they'll
give
it
to
it.
E
So
we're
we're
going
to
have
Nikita's
going-away
party
on
December,
19
and
we'll
have
a
day
filled
with
activities
in
and
around
a
polar
bear.
Exhibit
will
have
special
things
that
we're
throwing
in
akita
through
the
day
there'll
be
some
photo
ops
and
just
a
lot
of
activities
and
sort
of
celebrate
his
time
here
in
Kansas
a
and
throwing
the
heck
of
a
bon
voyage
party.
So
Berlin
Berlin
is
a
really
I.
Think
a
really
good
looking
bear.
E
We
know
when
Nikita
is
no
longer
here
that
Berlin
will
probably
come
a
little
more
out
of
her
shell
she'll
spend
more
time
outside
up
towards
the
windows
and
we'll
try
to
do
some
things
to
entice
her
to
do
that.
She
does
enjoy
swimming
and
a
lot
of
people
think
she
never
goes
in
the
pool.
Well,
the
bear
that
she
lived
within
in
Duluth
the
mail
every
time
she
would
get
in
the
water
he
would
chase
her
out.
E
So
she
has
always
been
a
little
leery
of
Nikita
when
she's
in
the
water
and
he
gets
in
the
pool.
I
think
she
remembers
those
days
that
she
got
chased
out
of
the
pool
we
built
the
polar
bear
passage
with
the
intent
of
using
polar
bears
to
teach
they're
fun
to
watch,
but
also
to
teach
about
what's
happening.
On
our
delicate
planet,
our
intent
is,
toys
have
bears
our
land
is
kind
of
in
her
guests,
Social
Security
years

lack
of
