Attorney

Jean
Peters
Baker,
the
Chief
of
Police
of
Kansas
City
Mayor,
Sly
James,
and
the
head
of
probation
and

to
interrupt
cycles
of
violence
in
Kansas
City.
We
are
utilizing
the
strengths
and
weaknesses
of
focus
deterrence
models
across
the
United
States
to
develop
intervention
strategies
to
interrupt
cycles
of
violent
crime.
C
The
citizens
of
Kansas
City
will
know
that
they're
dealing
with
something
new
and
Nova
when
we
are
able
to
not
only
impact
geographical
areas
that
are
involved
in
violence,
but
the
networks
of
individuals
that
are
in
violence.
We
are
looking
at
relationships
and
how
people
are
related
with
just
documented
police
contacts
to
determine
who
is
likely
to
become
involved
in
criminal
behavior
is
involved
in
them
in
criminal
behavior
or
at
risk
at
being
a
victim
of
a
violent
crime.
Other
cities
have
had
great
success
in
implementing
a
focused
deterrence
model.
C
Cincinnati
Ohio
had
a
forty
seven
percent
reduction
in
homicides.
Boston
ceasefire
initiative
had
a
sixty-three
percent
reduction
in
youth
homicides
and
what
we're
doing
is
we're
looking
at
the
strengths
of
those
programs
and
modeling
them
in
Kansas
City
to
make
them
fit
here.
We
have
some
pretty
high
goals
for
the
project.
We
hope
to
achieve
a
thirty
percent
reduction
in
homicides
over
the
next
two
year
period.
I
know
that's
a
very
lofty
goal.
My
magic
number
is
80
to
get
down
to
80
homicides.
C
I,
don't
think
that's
been
done
here
in
quite
some
time,
but
if
we
set
a
high
goal,
we're
going
to
save
about
35
to
40
lives
in
the
next
two
years.
What
we've
done
here
in
this
city,
while
a
lot
of
good
police
work,
has
been
done.
The
last
35
years
we
have
not
been
able
to
successfully
impact
that
violent
crime,
homicide
rate,
and
if
we
can
work
together
as
a
team
through
the
no
violence
alliance,
we
can
reduce
that
homicide
number
and
enhance
the
quality
of
life
for
the
systems.
Kansas
City.
B
Reducing
violent
crime
is
a
top
priority
for
chief
Daryl
Forte
Casey.
Nova's
ultimate
goal
is
to
deter
crime,
removing
violent
offenders
from
streets
and
giving
lower
level
offenders
an
opportunity
to
choose
a
different
path
will
improve
the
quality
of
life
