A
Hi
I'm
mayor
Quinton,
Lucas,
welcome
to
the
weekly
report.
The
holiday
season
is
here:
I'm
excited
about
all
the
holiday
activities
around
Kansas
City
come
visit,
Santa
at
Santa's
Wonderland
at
Gilliam,
Park
and
penguin.
Park
tell
your
wishes
to
the
fairy
princess
in
the
historic,
garment,
district
and,
of
course,
come
see
my
tree
at
Crown
Center.
This
is
no
Charlie
Brown
Christmas
tree.
This
magnificent
tree
is
more
than
100
feet.
Tall,
that's
bigger
than
the
tree
at
Rockefeller
Center.
A
The
lighting
of
the
mayor's
Christmas
tree
kicks
it
all
off
on
Friday
November
29th
at
Crown,
Center
right
next
to
the
ice
rink.
Please
come
join
me
and
my
special
celebrity
guests,
as
we
flip
the
lights
on
and
be
sure
to
stay
tuned
because
later
in
the
show,
is
a
great
video
all
about
the
mayor's
Christmas
tree
font,
which
helps
thousands
of
Kansas
City
residents
each
year
have
a
wonderful
holiday.
A
The
mayor's
Christmas
tree
is
being
installed
and
decorated
at
Crown
Center
now,
but
before
you
put
your
tree
up
and
put
on
those
final
decorations,
you
may
want
to
pick
up
your
leaves.
Our
leaf
and
brush
pick
up
is
going
on
right
now
in
Kansas,
City
residents
can
leave
up
to
20
bags
or
bundles
at
the
curb
by
7
a.m.
on
their
regular
trash
day.
Youth
paper
sacks
bundles,
should
also
be
no
larger
than
2
feet
in
diameter
and
no
longer
than
4
feet.
Remember
no
trash
and
no
grass
clippings
will
be
accepted.
A
The
two
remaining
pickups
are
in
the
central
region:
December
2nd
through
6th
and
in
the
South
Region
November
18th
through
22nd
visit,
the
KC
Water
website
for
more
information.
Thanksgiving
is
Thursday,
November
28th,
and
that
means
City
Hall
will
be
closed
and
curbside
trash
and
recycling
will
be
moved
to
the
holiday
schedule.
That
week
pick
up
shifts
to
one
day
later
than
normal.
We
know
it
can
be
confusing
to
keep
track
of
the
holiday
trash
schedule
and
the
know
tagged
trash
period
that
follows
Christmas.
A
B
D
The
giving
spirit
of
Christmas
has
been
part
of
the
mayor's
office
for
more
than
135
years,
beginning
with
mayor
George
Shelley
in
1878
mayor
Shelley
bought
a
tree
and
prepared
meals
for
needy
families
with
his
own
money.
Today,
the
mayor's
Christmas
tree
fund
helps
more
than
4,000
individuals
each
holiday
season.
It
also
assists
local
nonprofits
in
providing
a
more
enjoyable
holiday
for
senior
citizens,
people
with
disabilities
and
needy
children
throughout
the
city,
beginning
in
the
mid
1980s
hallmark
and
its
designers
began
making
ornaments
from
the
previous
year's
tree.
D
A
Is
thrilling
for
me
to
be
able
to
come
to
Crown
Center
this
morning?
Look
at
this
beautiful
tree
that
my
friend
ill
from
Oregon
drove
through
mountains
and
storm,
isn't
the
trials
and
tribulation
it's
a
whole
story
itself.
So
thank
you.
Dale
you're,
all
bringing
us
this
beautiful
tree
from
Oregon's
Blair's
Christmas
tree
there's
a
tradition!
That's
existed
in
Canada
saved
for
quite
some
time
before
a
number
of
years.
It's
related
to
raising
money
for
families
in
need
throughout
our
city.
This
all
goes
to
a
great
cause.
A
D
E
The
Swope
Park
industrial
area,
located
near
75th
Street
in
Cleveland,
has
coped
with
severe
flooding
in
years
past
in
August
of
2017,
a
torrential
rainstorm
led
to
high
water
evacuations
for
workers
and
customers
in
the
area.
After
the
Blue
River
overflowed
its
banks,
charlie'll
Ivers
of
library's
bronze
remembers
that
day
vividly
yeah.
F
E
Water
announced
construction
of
the
Swope
Park
industrial
area,
flood
risk
reduction
project.
This
project
will
minimize
flooding
in
the
area
and
when
completed,
provide
protection
from
a
500
year
storm.
The
area
will
include
a
flood
protection
wall
and
in
a
separate
city
project,
an
embankment
for
a
flyover
bridge
in
the
near
future
for
Casey
water,
I'm,
Heather,
Frierson,.
G
With
all
of
the
events
that
are
happening
in
Kansas
City,
especially
during
the
holidays,
it's
not
too
early
to
start
thinking
about
what
you're
going
to
put
on
your
calendar.
One
option
is
right
here
at
the
Kauffman
Center
for
the
Performing
Arts,
it's
supported
by
the
neighborhood
tourists,
Development
Fund
and
it's
the
Kansas
City
symphonies,
Christmas
festival,
December
20th
through
the
23rd
here
to
tell
us
more,
is
associate
conductor,
Jason,
Siebert
Jason,
thanks
so
much
for
squeezing
us
into
your
schedule.
You
just
got
done
with
the
rehearsal.
Absolutely.
H
H
So
our
Christmas
festival
in
its
current
form,
has
actually
been
happening
since
2010.
So
for
nine
years
we've
put
on
this
wonderful
event
and
what
I
love
about
Christmas
festival?
Is
it's
not
just
our
fabulous
Kansas
City
symphony?
We
extend
to
all
of
the
rest
of
our
musical
family,
so
the
Symphony
Chorus
joins
us
for
a
lot
of
the
selections.
The
resound
handbell
ensemble
is
one
of
the
highlights
of
the
program
each
year
as
well,
and
we
always
have
a
guest
artist.
G
H
You
know
the
symphony
is
extremely
busy
in
the
month
of
December.
We
try
to
provide
lots
of
great
holiday
programming
because
we
know
that
it's
a
busy
time
for
families
and
we
want
everyone
to
be
able
to
hear
the
symphony
in
one
form
or
another
throughout
the
month
of
December.
So
we
actually
kick
it
off.
Thanksgiving
weekend
with
Mary
Poppins
we're
gonna
be
playing
the
original
Mary
Poppins
film
right
here
in
Helzberg
Hall.
H
We
have
four
performances
of
that
on
Thanksgiving
weekend
and
if
you've
never
been
to
one
of
these
movie
concerts
before
they're
thrilling,
we
remove
the
soundtrack
from
the
film
and
the
Kansas
City
Symphony
plays
the
entire
score
live
so
we'll
be
doing
that
with
the
orig
MARY
POPPINS
film
thanksgiving
weekend,
and
then,
of
course,
one
of
our
big
traditions
is
the
Messiah.
Handel's
Messiah
will
do
three
performances
of
that
over
the
first
weekend
in
December,
so
we
hope
people
check
that
out.
